The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

PM isn't working. :(

I know a few of you have had trouble private messaging tonight.

I had no internet signal for 3 days, finally got it back today, I went to message flipperboidskua about Sierra and why I like his brown color and I got a white screen with "Database error" message on it.

It really sucks not being able to private message. I only hope that i'll be able to pm again soon. What a bummer. :(

Well, that sucks. :(  I hate when I get those things. My computer is really old and restarts itself most of the time. My last one was so old it died when I was working on it. I hope you get to do PMs again.

I'm having a similar problem trying to PM Serris. I'm sure once Petrie or landbeforetimelover get on one of them can explain it.

As I said in the other thread about this issue:

Quote
It's on Invision's end. Most likely server overload. The database can only handle so many queries per second and the limit has probably been reached. It happens quite frequently on large popular forums with 100k+ members. We're not that large, but there are thousands - maybe even tens of thousands of different forums on the z7 server.

It's nothing to worry about and will be resolved shortly.

I hope it does and is an easy to fix problem.  At least we can post on the forum.

I noticed this on Farthing Wood.net, I tried contacting a friend of mine about something, and it failed to send, so I had to type it from scratch and send it to him on deviantart instead.

Its probably invision, like LBTlover said. They'll [hopefully] fix it.

EDIT:

Now it says

PM System temporarily offline. Please check back soon.
when you hit send message. Have the admins shut off the PM system or is it something else?

EDIT 2:

I just sent a PM on my Tremors forum (z15.invisionfree.com domain), it sent just fine. It may be the z7.invisionfree.com domain that is having trouble.

When I send a PM, it says the PM has been succesfully sent, but then when I look in to the "Sent Items" folder there's nothing there. I tried refreshing the page and still nothing. Why is this happening?

You have to check the option to save the sent item in the sent folder. InvisionFree doesn't save sent items by default like ProBoards does.

Well, I can send messages fine once again, anyway, even though I can't see what I sent in the "sent messages" section

As long as the message gets sent, that's what counts for me. I'm very happy that the PM is up and working normally again.

See those words below the message box that say 'add a copy to my sent messages' and 'track this message'?

You have to check the boxes next to those for them to take affect. ;)

The problem applies to admins same as for everyone else (so unfortunately we cannot forward any PMs either). We don't know how long it takes invisionfree to fix it so my recommendation would be to add an email address to your profiles. The email address is not shown publicly and even if somebody sent you an email via that link the sender won't know your email address unless you respond to that email (which is not likely to be much of a risk for those who have been exchanging PMs so far).
