Not just Hot Lava, but also a Lahar and a Pyroclastic Cloud. Not to mention that the mountain will also be expelling large amounts of Ash, and creating Earthquakes. Plus the Kids have to get out of a situation involving Sulphuric Acid.

I don't think that land before time makes for good crossing overs with modern disaster movies or with all the war stories it is so often crossed over with. What I would really love to see was a serious attempt of a land before time fanfiction within the setting of the land before time movies and without the excessive bloodbaths or mixing up with elements from other genres which are found in nearly every fanfiction existing.

LBTDiclonius is right, just write, write, write, write until you have what you feel is good. I wrote the prologue of my latest Farthing Wood fanfic in less than an hour. Its better than how I normally write too.

Preface

For many years, a family of otters had lived in Farthing Wood, and hadn’t bothered any animals and none of the animals bothered them as they were the reason that construction crews and companies that have sites set up all around the woods are permitted in any way to even set foot in the Wood to clean up litter. The foxes, stoats and weasels of Farthing Wood have never had any trouble with the otters as they normally just stay near the ponds and streams of the woods, eating only fish and other creatures that live in the water.

But one day, the water-dwelling creatures of the woods began to become more and more scarce everyday, which eventually forced the otters to leave the water that most of them had been born in-or at least near-to move onto land and search for the foods that the foxes and stoats love to eat more than anything: field mice, voles, shrews and rats. Which is going to cause great conflict with the families of foxes, stoats and weasles that live in the woods, as they are the dominant species in the woods, even more so than the badgers and screech hawks that hunt the wood for the same rodents.

But there is one vixen that hates the otters more than any animal in the wood, she goes back the name ëLean Vixen’ for her thin ankles, tail and body in general, excluding her belly currently, she has cubs in her womb, and that is what sticks out on her body compared other than her bright red fur coat, that would draw the eyes of any male fox towards her if she didn’t already have a mate, ëLean Fox’. He is about the same size as his vixen, ankles and everything, even his neck, and his fur his a bright orange.

Lean Vixen has had several bad encounters with the Farthing Wood Otters since they started eating the animals that she includes in her diet daily, namely the shrews and voles which are her favorites, the otters eat more of them than anything, and she knows that her and Lean Fox are going to have to do something very soon about the otters or they are going to starve. She moves to a ledge over her earth, and lays down sideways so she doesn’t harm her cubs, and she can see several otter cubs chasing each other playfully around, but she only snarls viciously and threateningly at the cubs.

Her snarl draws the attention of the cubs from each other to her instantly, and she stands up to scare the otter pups off, “What do you think your looking at!” She shouts with anger at them. “Get off our land! You otters aren’t welcome here and tell your parents, they can’t do anything about us foxes anyway! Get off our land before I come down there and bite each of your heads off!” The otters soon respond each with a yelp of fear and they all scurry off with their heads low the ground.

Lean Vixen proud about what she said to the young otters and she notices that Lean Fox has come up behind her without even having to look back, but she does anyway, “You tell me, what are we going to do about these otters?” She asks her lean mate, “I just scared five young pups away from our earth, one of them was eating some shrews I caught, and I want to know what is going to be done about these...these pests.”
“I don’t know, I killed one that tried stealing a rat I caught for you on the way here. They’ve been everywhere ever since the shortage of water-bound prey. Fish, crayfish, you name it, they’ve ate them all.”
“Conceited little vermin!” She replies with anger.
“Conceited is right!” He agrees with his mate, “all they ever do is steal food from us foxes, and even the stoats thinking that we can’t catch them. That ëSmooth Otter’ even killed poor Jade’s mate Timber today for a few shrews, and she just found out she is expecting his offspring.”
“What!” Lean Vixen barks. “He did! I’ve always hated that one, he’s nothing but trouble, something has to be done about him before he kills somebody else.”
“What can we do about him?” Lean Fox asks her. “Not even Stout Fox or Sly Stoat have been able to get a hold of them when they steal food from right under their noses! These otters are too quick.”
“Maybe if we killed one of their pups,” she suggests bluntly. “Then they’d leave us alone.”
“I wouldn’t bet on it,” He replies with a sigh. “They’ll never leave us alone even if we did that. They’d probably bother us even more.”
“I give up.” And with that [as if out of instinct] she collapses onto her side once more, and sighs with annoyance.
“Your giving up?” He asks with surprise in his voice. “I’ve never known you for being one to give up.”
“Well I did.” She says while getting back up and walking away with her mate, “we don’t have a plan on what we are going to do about them. I’m done with them.”
He suddenly comes up with another idea. “Smooth Otter.” He says in a dead-pan voice, “we can kill-or at least injure-Smooth Otter, their ëleader’, if he can be called that. If he dies, they’ll leave us alone.”
“That’s the best thing I have heard all day.” She snickers evilly, “let’s do it when we get the chance, but we’ll have to find him alone first.”

See, if I can write this in about 45 minutes or less and its better than I normally write, then you can probably write better if you put your mind too it.

You won't know what skills you have and what skills you don't have if you don't try first.

Thank You. But I'm not only have trouble coming up with Land Before Time worthy names, also what kind of dinosaur that charcter should be plus I'm also having another problem, and it's in this Topic called Better Names.

I can trust myself as a writer, but every writer has a Defect. Mine is that I can't create anything, except coming up with an idea for my Movie/TV Show and create a plot summary for it, other than that the rest I can't do, well on my own that is .

I used to be like that with my second and third Farthing Wood stories, I had to have help from a friend for several fan characters names, I haven't had to ask him for help with any names for the fourth or fifth or any spin offs either. I just thought of names using the names from the tv series as my help.

Ex.

Ranger-->Stranger

You can do that, or just use characters species for their names.

Like the grandchildren or parents of a character from the tv series, I used parts from snake species.

bush viper-->Bush
Bandy-Bandy-->Bandy
Timber Rattlesnake-->Timber
Pit Viper-->Viper

I came up with those names and eight others just using species of snakes in less than twenty minutes. You could try that (with dinosaurs that is).

Ex.

If you have a tyrannosaur rex in your story, you could 'Tyranno' or something like that.

Your right about every writer having a defect, mine is coming up with what to write, not characters, chapter names or story titles anymore. I'm starting to get better with coming up with ideas too.

Don't worry JB, nobody's perfect at writing. My defect is I can't come up with battle sequences. I can picture them in my head, I just can't write them down on paper.

Yes I get it, but these are YOUR story's, therefore YOU are the creator of the story and it can be whatever you want it to be.  And, true, it is good to have other people to help you, but sometimes it's better to fly solo and see what can be accomplished by yourself. Sometime you just have to take a leap of faith and decide whether you like it. Not anybody else.
