The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Well, I'm currently writing a fanfiction about a journey that Shorty undertakes, which inadvertently turns into something much bigger.
I recently had to re-tool the whole thing, so progress is a bit slow...
I'm planning on having it be a pure LBT fic, though with tone and level of violence more similar to that seen in the first film.
I'm, um, kind of wavering about posting it publicly. I don't want to call myself a poor writer, but as far as fictional stories go, I'm not exactly the best :lol

Finding names for characters was the hardest part, I think. I've got so many names made out of the entire Parasaurolophus genus (Ambeo, Rina, Drosa, Rolo, Parry, Nitho, Crista, Sor, Phus, Ischia). Five points to anyone who can guess what all the names come from. An additional five points to anyone who can make a dreadful pun of sorts by putting several of the names together.
Hmm...lemme see now...

Ambeo – Lambeosaurine
Rina – Lambeosaurine
Drosa – Hadrosaur
Rolo – Parasaurolophus
Parry – Parasaurolophus
Nitho – Ornithopod or Ornithischia
Crista – Parasaurolophus cyrtocristatus
Sor – Parasaurolophus
Phus – Parasaurolophus
Ischia – Ornithischia

Parry + Sor + Rolo + Phus = Parrysorolophus (Parasaurolophus) :p

So? Do I get all ten points? :P:

Yep! Good job! (I actually used Hadrosaurinae for Rina, but that's good enough. Virtual cookie for you!)

Now imagine those four causing a havoc and being told to stop, and you have the worst pun occuring in the movie! (Parry! Sor! Rolo! Phus! Stop that at once!)

Hmm...was playing a flash game involving dinosaurs and extinction and got the idea for a fic taking place WAY in the future, at the K-T event. (Bear with me, it's not what you think. Most of this is based off the game events.)

Basically, at this point in time, countless land shifts have made the world a very different place. Spiketails are gone, Longnecks are rare, and new strange species have sprung up everywhere. The Great Valley itself was ruined in an earthshake that split the land in two, raised some of the land. and destroyed part of the protective wall surrounding it. However, parts remained safe, and colonies still live in these mini-valleys. The eastern lands have become smaller, as big water encroaches, and the parts no longer covered have become fertile again.

(Right, that's out of the way, now for the storyline) We follow several different characters (A loner, a whole herd, someone living in one of the valley remnants, and someone out east; the main character). Basically, what starts out as a calm and simple day is interrupted by a large rock falling from the sky, which crashes to the south, with an explosion that is so bright it almost hides the sun. Many background characters perish, but the main character flees and makes it to a cavern in the western mountains, where several other herds have survived; courtesy of an underground spring and some food.

And there I ran out of ideas. Having them all perish would be a downer, but it's not like they would all survive. Unless they did, but underground, and ultimately dying out. Or, returning to the land, but not to breed.

Or, to be even more bizarre, end with the exact same Rainbowfaces from 7 returning, noting how bad the situation is, and offering to save them (Said in a strange way). They then beam them in a light, to a strange cold place, then beamed again, to what appears to be the lands before the falling rock. Thus, the dinosaur race flourishes, unknowing that the earth is no longer ruled by them. The rainbowfaces survey their work, and then leave a "Animal Reserve" Beacon near the planet, as well as a surveying sattelite.

Any thoughts? A bit too sci-fi for LBT, methinks, but I still like where this could go.

Lemme guess...the game you're talking about is Dino Run, right? (I had an addiction to that game for some time a while ago. :p)

I think it's an interesting idea, but as an LBT story, it's bit too depressing for my tastes, personally. Especially the part about spiketails being extinct (even though they probably were by the the time of the K-T extinction). I do have to say I like the second idea for an ending better, because although I'm not too big on the prospect of the rainbow faces being aliens (I prefer Chronicler's theory that they represent a population of civilized dinosaurs that abandoned Earth), it shouldn't make much difference to the story, seeing as the whole concept itself isn't really fit for LBT. Plus, it offers the hope that non-avian dinosaurs still exist somewhere in the universe. :p

Yep! Finally beat the blasted game on Insane, although it took me a day of angrily making my way through it after losing for the umpteenth time.

I agree, I wouldn't want it to be a sad story, although it would certainly start out sad. I really just wanted an excuse to rescue the dinos from the K-T event, in a way similar to the sanctuaries in Dino Run.

Personally, I never liked the idea of aliens either; I always thought they were time-travellers from the future with cloaking devices on. I suppose the story written like this sort of does make the rainbowfaces aliens. Oh well. I'll figure something out.

I'm currently thinking about a sequel to Far Away Home.

I am considering calling it Into Black Sun, but it's just a working title.

No plot details yet, but it's an adventure for the gang's kids.

I actually wrote a story based on Dino Run, chronicling my small experience with the game. (It's a true story, and pretty interesting.) I could email it to you if you like, Almaron or Pangaea or anyone else.

I'd like to see it. :) You can send it to me by PM or e-mail, or do what Almaron said and post it on the GOF.

Almagron reminded me of this. :) So yeah, I'll send it via email, because it's got a picture in the word doc, and I don't know how to embed pictures from my computer into forum pages. Anyone else wants, they can ask I guess. It's more of a look at the game from a newbie's perspective, and one who doesn't particuarly understand the game's point that well.

I'm currently writing a sequel to What have we done? that actually will have a hatchling.  It shouldn't take me too long to write.

I'm working on a short story that involves the Gang (with Ruby and Chomper, plus Guido) going into the Mysterious Beyond to safe Tricia, and run into Pterano there, who ends up having to help them get home. It even has a "No One Has to Be Alone" reprise!

*Double post*
I've got one that might be relatively long, and I might even offer co-authors to go along with it. It even has some ties to one of my fan-episodes

The Great Valley Rebellion
A great gathering comes to the Great Valley. Ali and Bron's herds combine on their journey. Countless groups pour in from the Mysterious Beyond-including some of the smallest Sharpteeth. Flocks of fliers numbering to the thousands inhabit the mountains. Mo leads his group to the Valley's water. Strange dinosaurs appear, new types of swimmers and longnecks and threehorns, and spiketails all file into the Great Valley.
The reason for this mass gathering is to go to war against Red Claw and his army.

I'm...trying to make it as "epic" as possible.

Another war story?

Why have LBT war stories been popping up so frequently? First, it was just Twilight Valley, then Heinous and now The Great Valley Rebellion.

In any case, I wish you luck!

I second that one Serris.
Perhaps we "love" war too much to think that the land before time could do without it's splendor (dripping with sarcasm) :rolleyes

I myself wouldn't like it if the majority of LBT Fanfics were war-based, but a few never hurt anybody...

I'm taking care not to let Heinous end up as graphic and violent as Out of the Shadows did; I want to keep the rating at least PG or T at worst. So far I haven't gotten to the war part of the story too much. I'm coming up with ideas as I write each chapter, so there's still some aspects that I haven't figured out, but likely will as I continue writing more chapters.

I apologize for not having continued my story in quite a while, but with my sisters home, I haven't been inspired to write any further chapters. Even when they leave, though, I might not continue unless I get some inspiration.

I have no problem with a few LBT fan fics being war stories but if there are too many, then the concept is no longer unique and it gets boring.

Personally, I feel that Heinous should stay a T rating... a PG rated war story just sounds...weird. Of course, it is your call.

Currently Heinous only has a K+/PG rating due to there not being enough material in it yet to warrant a T/PG-13 rating.
