See, the flaw with most of these alien invasion plots is one simple thing: They're seriously invading just because they want our resources? Really? I mean, they've got an entire universe full of massive energy sources and they're gonna go invade one little planet? That's stupid.
Cracked.com did an article on alien invasions and how they didn't make sense. This was one thing they brought up. They mentioned that in some movies, aliens want our resources. But they point out how there are other planets in this solar system with resources as well, and with no one resisting. It would be easier for aliens to go to, oh say, Mars, and mine resources there than going to Earth and fighting for it.
On the topic of alien invasion movies, yeah they are getting old. They seem to be coming out way too often recently. But there is one kind of invasion movie I would like to see be made. And that's Dinosaur Wars.
The story does involve the Earth being invaded from space, but it's not actually aliens. It's an ancient race of intelligent dinosaurs called the Kra, and they are bringing back species from the past. Much like some of the alien movies, the Kra want to seize Earth from humans, but in this case, it makes a lot more sense. It was their world first, and they want it back.
I think that would be a more unique "alien invasion" movie. Seriously, how often have you heard of space invaders being dinosaurs? I don't see this plot device used that often. The only other times I've seen alien dinos was The Quintaglio Ascension (a trilogy of books I'd also like to see turn into a movie or a TV show) and Dinosaucers (old show about dinosaur-like beings from another world coming to Earth).
