Captain Fairchild bobbed his front end. "So it essentially doubles my ammunition supply? I can live with that." He popped open his ventral ammunition bay and the mechanics began carefully hooking up the gel tubes into the weapons.
Mr. Bigmouth cracked his knuckles as he finished up repairing Rainbow's manipulator arm. "Captain, your cannon normally uses depleted uranium ammunition, right?"
"It does but the science department has found that a certain iron alloy treated with magic has the same density and pyrophoric properties. It also lacks uranium's toxicity. And of course, from what I hear, iron's easier to find in space. Asteroids and whatnot."
"Perhaps we can use it as armor. After all, tanks do use depleted uranium armor."
Captain Fairchild bobbed his front end. "How much is available?"
Mr. Bigmouth sent a request to the AI working the materials storage. "1000 pounds," he replied.
"Forget it. That's just for my ammunition. I'm wearing some 1,500 pounds of titanium and ceramic armor underneath my paint."

Dr. Kerzach made an enormous platter of curry-catfish fried rice. He quickly hosed down the wok.
"Hey, Nick, what you working on? Anyways, mind passing me the catfish slices?"
Another chef was slicing up some vegetables.
