"How would we know that you are not serving under him?" John asked, eyes narrowed.

"You could be trying to gain our trust, only to backstab us later, I suspect."

They boy's hand wasn't far from the hilt of his sword. Things were getting tense.

"Don't be so brash, John. The man could have a qualm against the prince no different than ours." Ashnii explained.

"How can you be so sure?"

Trust is not something we give out easily' Sed Nues said ' you will have to prove yourself to us before we trust you. aftr all, apep wants us dead and we';ve had narrow escapes on a number of occassions.. all we are is a group of simple, ordinary folk, trying to make our way in this world..

"That is correct, we only want to continue our route without problems..." - Qa'Meret said. - "... specially for me and my travel partner since we've joined to arrive here safely." - the Khajiit then looked at the rest of the group. - "... however I want to know what is going on here so I think we should leave our masked friend to talk."

The man chuckled a little, as a set of footsteps came down the stairs, belonging to an older-looking human dressed in a set of flowing blue and deep purple robes.  The older man smirked drolly.
"Because, if we had wanted you dead, or turned over to the king, then you would already have been.  There are several associates of ours around the town, who could have turned you in.  But instead, we have kept your secret."
He said, voice calm, but carrying a faint edge of superiority...

Chaka stayed near Kyo, not sure what was going on, if they were in danger or not.  She stayed ready to cast a spell if this turned out to be some sort of ambush.

Walker looked at the 2 present, finding he had no real fear about being killed for some reason.  He waved a hand dismissively.  In my time I have been threatened by experts. And I don't rate you very highly at all. "

The man in the robes chuckled quietly.
"There are no strings attached, besides the simple condition that you do not betray us.  As long as we fight for the same cause, and you do not side with that monster that used to be Apep, then we will get along fine."
He said softly...

Qa'Meret crossed his arms. - "Well, your conditions sound simple enough, if we keep ourselves in your side of this mess then you'll have a chance against Apep; otherwise our group will be done for. But you cannot ask way too much from us, even if we can be good with our talents, I don't think most of us has much experience dealing with the odds you have to deal with."

The man in the robe chuckled.
"Yes, well.  As much as the empire's forces have superior numbers, the resistance will have a far, far more valuable asset.  Me.  I know all of Apep's strategies, have formulated plans to counter them, and will personally see to it that any army he brings against me will be crushed."
He said confidently...

-

"Well, if you know all of Apep's strategies, I am sure he'll find ways or people to change some of them, so you still need to be careful..." - Qa'Meret said. - "... so  Ithink that is also another reason to get new people to the Resistence, so you can complement your own ideas with new points of views. For a conflict, you are into an interesting one" - he said that last part with a sly grin.

Kyo was looking very closely to the men in robes, talking about the tyrant governing these regions; but he is not very encouraged for the situation, specially for the bounty on most members of the group.

"I'm sure he may change his strategies eventually.  If he sees them continuing to be countered." Chaka said.

"Big he may be.  But even ants can overcome a bear in sufficient numbers. " Walker said.  "Also  once a tyrant is out one has to be careful one tyrant is not replaced for another.  Even the person who has the best of interests, may become that which they hate or dislike the most if they are not careful."

As the Orc walked through the vendor stands in the bazar, he saw people moving out of his way and several merchants take one look at him, stand to their feet, open their mouths and scream: "Sir! Sir! How much for that hammer? 500? 800?"
He ignored them and walked on, looking at all the wares. He finally settled a stand selling salted meat-- very rough, unapetizing looking meat, but meat he was sure wouldn't go bad if he ended up getting stuck without rations.
"Good day to you," the orc rumbled. The woman at the counter was looking at him with wide eyes, but nodded politely enough.
"Good day to you. Would you like to buy something?"
"No," he said simply.
The woman blinked. "... No?"
"I have no gold. I would be willing to trade what I have in exchange for some of your salted meat, however."
The woman winced a little, and nervously shook her head. "I'm terribly sorry. I can't make trades: I need gold. Sales have been slow enough as it is: I can't give away my stock without direct currency."
The orc was silent for a moment, and then bowed. "May the pariahed lord watch over you," he said, and walked away from the stand, leaving the woman blinking in confusion. He supposed he would just have to forage for food again. Still, he walked among the stalls, hoping to find one that would have preserved food that he could acquire through trade. He walked by a little girl and her mother. The little girl looked up to her mother and asked. "Was that a monster?"
The mother shook her head with a smile. "No, dear."
"Oh... well then can I play with him?"
The mother shook her head with an alarmed look. "No, dear."

The man in the robe nodded.
"Indeed.  As it stands, I doubt his tactics have changed much, since I created them for him. "
He said coldly..

"Oh well, that is quite a revelation." - Qa'Meret said as his eyes greww more wide open than his usual semblance. - "how you did manage to escape from his reach?." - he asked not sure if he would get a reply.

Kyo kept looking at the group and then commented. - "If my tactician leaves me, I would get a new one to prevent bad surprises." - he then looked at the others, not sure if they would reply back at him.

there is a matter of experience though, and getting the tactician to do things you want, that can be difficult. there is a reason that ' good help is hard to find' is an axoim, it IS hard to find people who are good at what they do and can be trusted.' Jae said to Kyo.

Kyo look back at Jae and nodded. - "I guess you are right mister Jae. That axiom is something new for me to remember from now on."

Qa'Meret looked at Kyo with a smile and then turned his look back at the robbed men, not knowing if they would reply to him, and he is also thinking for new plans for their permanency in the city.

The robed man chuckled bitterly, looking aside.
"I escaped his grasp, yes.  But it was a costly escape.  It took him having my wife executed in cold blood for a crime she didn't commit to make me see that the man I called my friend once had fallen so far that he had become a monster.  And then, in order to escape, I lost several more of my former trusted officers.  What he did to them... I can't even begin to describe what he did.  He broke them utterly, turned them to his will...made them nothing more than hollow shells.  In the end, only my sons and I escaped.  But I made myself a vow that I would not stop until I had freed my comrades, and seen Apep freed from whatever madness has consumed him.  Even if that means his death."
He said, his voice hard and cold...

"If all what you said is truth, then I can see why you need the Resistence to grow as quickly as possible. But is this group really part of your plan? since most members of it are already known to Apep and there are rewards on their heads... and it will be a matter of time before there will be a reward for me aswell since I joined for the travel." - Qa'meret asked the Robbed old man.

Kyo started looking aroound the place they are all in and found a dusty chair, he went there and cleaned up a little before sitting. His little dragon-like creature sat next to him but on the floor.
