The Party Room / If Petrie came to your house...
« on: October 09, 2012, 05:12:32 PM »
All I know is that I'll have to go to the store and buy extra bags of collard greens --
but don't cook them! -- just for him. And yes, I'll have to explain why the "other" Flyer he saw in my front window is really him.  Then I'll teach him to play blackjack. :lol

Silver Screen / Favorite Voice Actors?
« on: August 24, 2012, 12:23:14 PM »
Only LBT voice actors or can we go back a few years, even other movies and TV? If so then here we go:

Kenneth Mars -- What can I say. King Triton and Grandpa Longneck's voice won't be same

Tony Jay

Clarence Nash -- Donald Duck!

Mel Blanc -- the Master!

Miriam Flynn

Judith Barsi

Jim Cummings -- just loved him as Ed in The Lion King

June Foray -- the voice of Rocky the flying squirrel.

Tex Avery -- that famous belly laugh!

BTW Blanc, Foray, and Avery are really old school masters. I think Foray is still with us. Such rare talent paves the way for the great voice artists we have now. :)

The Fridge / 24th Anniversary Of Judith Barsi's Death

So sad when a child's parent is so screwed up that he finds it necessary to end the little one's life.  :cry RIP Judith.

I ran a full antivirus, anti malware scan yesterday morning and checked that DNS site twice. Got back online late last night into the wee hours. No breakdowns, the DNS checker still shows green, and my PC's OK.  One can't be too overly cautious. :D

The Fridge / What is your favorite season?
« on: June 19, 2012, 03:37:06 PM »
Hands down it's fall! And not because I'm a Libra baby. ;) It finally cools down after a long hot summer, the leaves begin to turn colors, football season begins, and there's nothing like apples in season. Pie, anyone?  :D

The Fridge / I graduated!
« on: June 14, 2012, 01:24:31 PM »
Congratulations! :celebrate: When I graduated HS it felt like the first step to being an adult. I had to to wait a few months to register to vote, another 3 years to legally buy alcohol before I really felt all grown up. :yes
Any plans post-high school? Other than kick back and celebrate, of course

The Fridge / Venus Transit - June 5/6, 2012
« on: May 21, 2012, 05:04:35 PM »
I truly do not want to miss this. and I'm praying for a clear sky June 5. And yes, staring at an eclipse without proper protection can seriously jack up your eyes. I still have the pinhole box from the last partial eclipse though I'd rather have the protective glasses.

History Section / 100th Anniversary of Titanic
« on: April 11, 2012, 03:03:44 PM »
I've had Titanic fever ever since I watched the not-so-good 1953 Barbara Stanwyck movie on late night TV many many years ago, long before Cameron's movie was a dream-in-mind. I'm re-reading A Night to Remember, re-watching the film version, then my friends and I will conduct a commemorative prayer service at 11:40 April 14.

General Land Before Time / Song or no songs?
« on: April 09, 2012, 02:16:48 PM »
Looking back on the song-less original and comparing it to the tune-filled sequels, I'd say "Please no more songs in the sequels." Of course if a song moves the plot along, is catchy and memorable, which, sad to admit, most of the LBT sequel songs are not, include it.  Adding songs merely to fill in plot gaps and do not add to story and/or character development is counterproductive.  If they want a song, choose one that sums up the overall theme then play it during the ending credits like the original did. I doubt TIIC see it that way 'cause they know best.  :rolleyes

Sound Off! / RIP Whitney Houston
« on: February 11, 2012, 10:28:30 PM »
I heard about this an hour ago. It's all over Facebook and Twitter. I can't believe she's gone so suddenly, a major talent gone, and she was so young. Only 48.  :cry  No news on what led to her death.

I loved her voice, and her stories of growing up in her mother's gospel world. I remember one story in particular, when Mahalia Jackson sang at Rev. Franklin's (Aretha's dad) church, and afterwards she'd come to the house and fix an old time fried chicken dinner. I'm digging out the old LP's and CD's now.

RIP Whitney. You will be very missed. :(

The Fridge / What is the weather like where you are?
« on: January 26, 2012, 02:28:27 PM »
Mid 30's today, drizzle, overcast. At least it warmed enough not to freeze. I hate freezing rain. :x

Supposed to be nice tomorrow but still chilly. Hope the weather is decent next week for Super Bowl in Indy.

Dang TJ, that's mighty cold. The last time it was -20 in Indianapolis was...I can't recall right now. :lol I do remember -27 in January '94. Bloody frackin' cold indeed. I couldn't even open the front door to get the mail. It was that cold.

Anyway, it's 25 F. here with about an inch of snow on the ground. We've been lucky so far this month, but things can change in the Midwest -- fast!  The forecast says 20 to 30% change of "wintry mix". Read freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Get thee to a supermarket pronto!  :D

The Fridge / 2012
« on: January 01, 2012, 02:16:13 PM »
Lots of cool, and not so cool, stuff is happening in 2012. Super Bowl in Indianapolis (Go Hoosier Hospitality!) next month, Summer Olympics in London, Presidential election (and already I'm politicked out), a possible return to school for me (career change?), and an uncertain outcome on the homefront. Plus listening to all those doom-sayers about the impending end of the world. You know, I didn't believe those Y2K guys. Nothing spectacular happened Jan. 1, 2000, so it looks as if we'll still be here December 22, 2012. Hey, I'm ready to party come the 22nd.  :celebrate

Happy New Year, GoF! Be safe, be happy, have fun.  :DD

Wishing all the GoF a very Merry Christmas. Be happy, be safe, and have fun!  :DD

Silver Screen / Favorite Don Bluth film?
« on: December 21, 2011, 04:12:34 PM »
Let's see, this is the GoF and the poll is to select our favorite Don Bluth film. No contest here! :lol

Actually I enjoyed Secret of NIMH but still think LBT is the overall better made film.

The Fridge / Happy Thanksgiving!
« on: November 25, 2011, 01:05:34 AM »
Finally home after spending Thanksgiving with my sisters, mom, and BiL's. Nice day and all. Mac and blue cheese, eh? We had the usual turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, homemade rolls. et.al. Instead of pumpkin pie I made pecan which turned out so good I'm sharing the recipe.

BTW, no Black Friday for me. Years ago I made it my policy to stay away from any shopping establishment. That excludes the neighborhood Walgreens; I just discovered we're low on light bulbs. :lol

Character Discussion / Sue
« on: November 04, 2011, 10:06:05 PM »
I loved Sue, too. Bernadette Peters lent the perfect voice. My only rant about LBT 10 is Sue had no song, which didn't make sense to me since she's voiced by a Broadway star. Otherwise she's so entertaining and I love her scenes with Littlefoot.
