1988 Theatrical Release / Making of LBT book

Sound Off! / What have you bought recently?
« on: March 02, 2011, 12:07:28 PM »
Just bought Stand Up And Fight by Turisas, their first new album since 2006. And boy have they changed:

1. New costumes (less fur, more leather)
2. New musician (replaced the accordianist with a girl, who is really good and is a decent singer too)
3. Used a REAL brass and strings section, as opposed to keyboards
4. Almost completely power metal, with a few hints of viking metal, and 1 folk-metal song (all about hunting pirates)

Long story short, it is awesome. Nygard's voice is amazing as usual, from his screeching growls, to his operatic melodies, and the choral bits are just chillingly good.

The Fridge / If you were an animal what would you be?
« on: March 01, 2011, 03:11:10 PM »
Animal: Some sort of soaring bird, like an eagle or a falcon.

Fantasy: Definitely a dragon. Nothing more badass, yet majestic at the same time, than a Dragon.

Extinct: Dunno about that one. I would say a Pterosaur, but that's just biased, because I'm a big fan of Petrie and Pterano.

The Fridge / Tabletop Roleplaying games
« on: March 01, 2011, 03:05:55 PM »
I've always wanted to, but could never find anybody who played as well who I knew. There was a friend of the family and her husband, who played all sorts: Call of Cthulhu, Munchkin, etc.
Just a darndest shame that she now lives in Australia.

But me and a friend of mine did have this silly little game we'd play, and all we needed was an Ordnance Survey map. Then we'd pretend to be military commanders planning an operation on the map. Silly, and with no plot, but good fun.
With the same friend, I would do this thing called the "Zombie Plan", in which we would plan exactly what we would do if/when there is a zombie epidemic. We'd work out where we'd get supplies, where we'd go, how we'd manage supplies and survivors, etc.

Good fun and no plot. That's my kind of game.

You do costume construction? Now that's one thing I'd love to do myself sometimes :)
Well, you know, making cosplays and halloween costumes. I'm strongly against buying premade costumes. I usually buy the bits and pieces and make it myself. For example, the mono-gog I mentioned earlier, I made out of the following:

clear acetate
green sharpie
scraps of fake leather
scraps of camping-pad foam.
A plastic pot and lid from the Warhammer 40K Basing Kit
Several Warhammer paint pot lids.
Alot of polyester cement glue (Probably got myself stoned off the fumes by accident)
Lots of paint
Duct Tape

And what I'm really impressd by, is that I can actually see out of it! Everything's in shades of green, but still.

Sound Off! / Saddest song you ever heard?
« on: March 01, 2011, 02:52:33 PM »
Well, like alot of people say, Bestest Friends. It was the first thing in LBT to make me cry since the original, though several moments in the series got close.

Father by Manowar- Basically a Manowar power ballad, and so well done. Quiet a times, dramatic at times, with a little guita solo in the middle.

The Bosphorous Freezes Over by Turisas- Definitely the most dramatic and atmospheric song they have ever done (being a symphonic-viking-folk-metal band, that's not really saying much), but for some reason, listening to it the first time, I teared up a little, because it was basically the ending song on the album, basically ending the loose story. I think it's just the spoken bit:

YOU SEE, IT'S NOT WHAT YOU TAKE WITH YOU. IT'S ABOUT WHAT YOU LEAVE BEHIND.
AND THERE, CARVEN ON THE SIDE OF A LION, THE STORY FOUND ITS END."

Then followed by the strange Finnish choral ending. It's just amazing the first time I hear it.

Sound Off! / Anyone Like KISS?
« on: March 01, 2011, 02:38:09 PM »
Oh yes, I'm a fan of KISS. Not hugely, but I do enjoy their music and their concerts. They pretty much came up with the idea of creating this dialogue:

person 1: Yeah, that KISS concert was awesome! The first concert I ever went to!

Person 2: Then you'll be disappointed by every other concert you ever go to.

Personally, I prefer heavier and more epic stuff (though that concert where they performed with a children's choir and symphony orchestra was pretty awesome), but KISS are always fun.

I'm sure alot of movies-on-demand services have them in the kids-film sections.

If not, there's always Netflix. I think they have an online-streaming option, as well as a DVD delivery option with their movies.
And of course, there's always Megavideo...

General Land Before Time / Most sad moment in a sequel?
« on: February 28, 2011, 03:32:12 PM »
Its surprising how many there are for me:

II: Littlefoot and Chomper saying goodbye. It wasn't particularly sad, but definitely was the closest thing. Emotional, well performed, and with the perfect soundtrack.

V: Always There- First LBT moment to genuinely make me cry since Littlefoot's Mother in the original. Mostly quite sad, topped off by Littlefoot's solo. because you think it would be about his grandparents, and then it sort of hits you that he's referring to his mother for the first time since the original.

VI: When You're On Your Own always gets to me a bit, especially the "When you're on your own/ you have be the grown-up" bit. Just the sudden change in mood, from thinking that being on his own was exciting and adventurous, to thinking that it's lonely and harsh. Particularly because being a bit of a loner makes me think such things sometimes.

VIII: Contrary to what many people say, it's not the Family song. It's the little dialogue-less montage of Spike and Ducky slowly growing apart. I dunno why, but speechless montages always get to me in films. Personally, I blame the first 15 minutes of UP.

IX: No One has To be Alone. Oh man, this song always gets to me. Just the opening, with Mo and Littlefoot quietly enjoying a moment, and Littlefoot realising the meaning behind his grandpa's words. Plus, I dunno why, but the "There is so much more to everything/ than we can ever know" bit always gives me a big shiver, which I take as a sign of power and atmosphere in a song.

X: That brief shot of Littlefoot brooding on the ledge before Bron talks to him. The combination of the image of Littlefoot possibly sadder than he's been since the original, plus the twinkly Ghibli-style piano music. Part of me wants this shot to be longer, while the other half reminds me that this could cause Littlefoot to look angsty.
Also, the Bestest Friends song. Like LBTfan said, if I didn't know that there were 3 more sequels, I would be very emotional and into this scene.
Also, that brief shot of Petrie apparently being swallowed by the belly-dragger. Not exactly sad, but first time I saw it, I got a real "......oh my god!" reaction from it.

1988 Theatrical Release / Bluth and Goldman not pleased with production?

If each of the 12 movies sold 5 million units that would equal 60 mil.
5x12=60.
Ah right. Cos you said 5-7 units, you missed out the million part.

Still, this is probably better sales than any other direct-to-DVD Don Bluth sequel...Heck, probably better sales than any direct-to-dvd sequel ever!

And I can find pretty solid evidence at my school, of all places. Whenever I end up mentioning the series in conversation, people will always say a variant of either "Yeah...that's that film with the cartoon dinosaurs, right?" and/or "Oh yeah, I loved that film!"

Interesting article. It amazes me of how far TLBT has gotten and how much it grossed in the movies. Few years later we have new people dedicated enough to make 12 extra sequels. They only sold at least 60 million units which is about 5 to 7 units per movie. And this is World Wide! If you think about it...that is a pretty small amount of units sold out of 12 movies. Not to mention bad merchandising.
Wait...where are you getting the 5-7 number? Because last time I checked, 60 million units divided by 12 sequels was not 5-7.

The Fridge / Talents!
« on: February 26, 2011, 01:30:00 PM »
Well, I guess I got some too:

Musically, I'm a self-taught drummer, and not too bad at it, if I do say so myself. I've never performed with a band, but I've done a few solo performances with backing tracks at school, to warm reception. But I recently was recruited to drum for the school's glee club, which should be fun.

Otherwise, I'd say my major talents would be drawing (especially cartoons, I may upload some of my stuff when I get access to a scanner), animating (I've been doing stop-motion animation for a few years now) and I'm getting some experience with costume-construction too. I'll be helping a friend of mine who is making a lifesized Halo Elite costume. It looks to be pretty awesome. Meanwhile I'm working on my Toy Soldiers uniform, which basically consists of black pants, long sleeve shirt, waistcoat with patches and badges on, cap, and steampunk-mono-gog.
Oh, and I also practice Bujinkan-ryu Ninjutsu, the most well known and widely accepted modern incarnation of Ninjutsu. I recently got my 9th kyu greenbelt, which is probably equivalent to whatever is just above a yellow belt.

As for my family, I know that my grandma is an excellent quilter, my aunt and one of my cousins are professional singers, and my sister's a pretty good guitarist too.

The Fridge / Where in the world would you love to go?
« on: February 26, 2011, 12:55:22 PM »
Japan. I'm a huge fan of most things Japanese: martial arts, ninjas, godzilla, anime, cosplaying, Buddhism, the works.

I know many of the places I'd check out: Mt Fuji and the forest of suicide, Iga Ueno city for the annual Ninja festival, Tokyo, Hokaido...

It just always seems like an interesting place to stay. Plus, I got all this knowledge of Japanese etiquette that would be otherwise wasted.

Silver Screen / Most shocking plot twist ever?
« on: February 26, 2011, 10:19:33 AM »
Death Note: The Last Name

L wasn't really dead, and the Death Note had been replaced with a fake. This was particularly shocking because in the anime this is based on, L dies about halfway into the series.

Silver Screen / What movie genre do you like most?
« on: February 26, 2011, 10:05:40 AM »
Well, I'm a mix of things:

1. Animated. Any animated film, I'll be willing to watch. Fantasy, children's, sci-fi, PIXAR, some Disney, Dreamworks, WB, etc.

2. sci-fi. Pretty much any sci-fi film is fine for me. Space-opera, cyberpunk, steampunk, sci-horror, they're all good.

3. Fantasy. Always a big fan of fantasy.

4. J-cinema. There are so many good Japanese films that I love. Most of the Godzilla series, the Death Note movies, etc..

Generally, anything that is completely out of this world and could never happen in real life.

1988 Theatrical Release / Animation Cel of the Original Movie

Hey guys!  I'm here to update!

Um, first off, there's only the expensive cels from Animation2007 left.  Sorry, guys!

However, I was able to score a bargained one from someone called l**v**c.  The following two pictures of the cel come from the eBay site.  Furthermore, the real deal cost me $150.00 plus shipping.

To have all 5 of the gang in one cel is a true rarity.

Looking at it though, I can't help but feel it's part of a missing scene at the very end of the movie.

*Sees several fans holding deadly weapons just to take it* Uh!  Gotta go! *Zooms off*
I'll bet it's a cell from the famous elusive final line of the movie "We'll always be together."

And if so....You lucky sonovasharptooth.

Oh yes, long time player, me.

I originally collected Space Marines, then moved on to Necrons, and right now, I'm collecting Chaos daemons.

Current army list:

1x9 Bloodletters
1x Bloodletter herald
1x 11 Daemonettes
1x Daemonette Herald
1x Bloodthirster of Khorne.

I'll be putting them to the test this weekend, battling my friend.

The Fridge / Have you had any recent dreams or nightmares?
« on: February 25, 2011, 04:59:52 PM »
Oh man, I have been having some real doozies!

The one I remember the most is probably a strange crossover between LBT and 2012. Basically, it was very similar to the scene that goes on in Yellowstone Park, where it basically explodes and there's fire raining down everywhere.

Except... It all happened in the Great Valley, and it was the Smoking Mountains that exploded and rained fire everywhere. And I do remember seeing Ducky and her family running for their lives.

That's the one I remember the most, but I do remember that I've been having soem really freaky-deaky dreams lately. Probably all cos of that crazy cheese we got. 40yr old cheddar does that to ya.
