We were dissecting a shark and he was standing opposite me and when I cut into the shark, the embalming fluid squirted out struck him in the eyes.
Wow...Remind me to never agree to be your lab partner... :o
I’m only kidding! :p I’m a hopeless klutz when it comes to lab work myself (please don't misinterpret that as me saying you are!). On my first day of Microbiology lab, when the class was practicing preparing bacterial slides, I managed to scald my hand with a wire sampling loop (I don’t remember exactly what the tool was called :bang) that I had just sterilized in a Bunsen burner. The burn wasn’t that bad, but the next day in the lecture hall, the professor came up to me and offered to exempt me from lab work, basing my grade entirely on what I learned from the lectures. I immediately and appreciatively accepted. In retrospect, it was a little sad that I didn’t get a chance to see all of those fascinating microorganisms I learned about under a microscope, but at least I still have all my fingers and hair follicles today. :lol

No problem! :)
I actually rather liked the choice of words you used to avoid mentioning Pterano’s name.
Anyway, here’s my first quote. I’m worried might be too obvious, but anything to get this game up and running again! :DD

I’ve compiled a list of names and brief descriptions of my favorite prehistoric animals. I’ve sort of slacked off on updating the list lately, but even so it contains over 2,000 entries. (On the first day of class for one of the courses I took in my first year of college, every student had to tell the rest of the class a fact about themselves. Having come in slightly late as a result of not being able to find the room, I said something along the lines of, “I know the names of over 1,500 extinct animals, but I can’t remember the number of this classroom!” :lol)

I'm sorry I continuously forget posting the next chapters in this thread. Thanks to you Pangea for reminding me :yes
You’re very welcome. :smile
Sorry that I haven’t been posting long enough to have mentioned this earlier, but I love the concept of Cera being separated from the others and forced to travel with Chomper’s parents.

Cera noticed in her panic that the sharptooth hadn’t bitten really only when the sharptooth had set her down on the other sharptooth’s back. A bit dumbfounded and with tearing hard beat Cera starred at the sharptooth who had set her on the back of the other. The sharptooth grinned, but it lasted long until Cera had calmed a bit and her panic gave way for insulted pride.
I can just imagine the change in Cera’s expression if this were a movie. :lol It’s such a Cera-like reaction.
One question, though:

Had the eggeaters cauhere she heard alrears here and had a life and death pursuit begun here?
What exactly does this mean?  :confused I think a slight bit of editing may be in order, if you don’t mind me saying. (If and when you do edit it, I will obligingly delete this part of the post.)

The Welcome Center / Hi

Hello! I apologize if my welcome is somewhat awkwardóI've only been an active member here for about five days myselfóbut I felt sort of obliged to participate in the greetings.
Have you seen the LBT TV series yet? I didn't watch it until after I had seen the thirteenth movie (a decision I'm glad I made, seeing as many of the TV episodes are much better than that movie :rolleyes), and I'd recommend that you do the same thing.
Anyway, welcome to the GoF! :)

I think Malte is spot on with his argument that we shouldn’t be too hasty to label Topps as “cruel” or “a jerk.” The fact that we really know very little about him means that we have no idea of what pressures could have influenced him to act the way he does (the “fight, not flight” mindset instilled in him by his father aside :p). For starters, his (over)protectiveness of Cera may be due to the fact that his mate and other daughters appear to be missing, and are presumed dead. (Of course, as is inevitable with most speculation into Topps’s family history, Dinah and Dana throw a monkey wrench into this hypothesis. :rolleyes) I have also thought it possible that Topps was once the leader of a herd of threehorns, the other members of which either dispersed upon reaching the Great Valley or died beforehand. That could explain his perpetual bossiness and apparent desire to be “in charge” of everything.
By the way, I thought I’d mention that since my “rediscovery” of LBT, I have come to like the third movie much more, and am now far more sympathetic to the two characters I had previously regarded as “mean” (Topps and Hyp). However, I stand by my decision in choosing that movie as the one in which he was the most belligerent.
In regards to LBT XI, Topps definitely went overboard in his hunt for the tinysauruses, but for some reason I never thought his remark towards Tria was that bad. Sure, it was rude, don’t get me wrong, but mild compared to some of the things we’ve heard him say to other dinosaurs over the course of the series.
While I’m on the subject, I wonder if his dislike of the tinysauruses had anything to do with the fact that they were longnecks, albeit tiny ones. Would he have been as fanatically intent on exterminating them if they had been tiny threehorns instead? Now THAT would have been interesting (not to mention darned funny :smile). Imagine how incredulous Topps would have been if Littlefoot had blamed the disappearance of the tree sweets on “little threehorns! I saw them with my own eyes! They were only about this tall!” :lol :lol :lol

P.S. Malte, is there anywhere I can read your “Old Threehorns” story? It sounds really interesting.

raga: No problem with the late welcome; I’m happy to get any welcome. :DD (I’m amazed at how many welcomes I’ve received already.) By the way, I love your avatar. :yes It's such a nice screenshot that I didn't recognize it as being from LBT XIII at first. (The LBT people really skimped on the animation for most of that movie. <_<)

NeoGenesis005: Thank you very much. (Sorry I don’t have much else to say :oops; just wanted to let you know that I have read your greeting and that I appreciate it.)

Shouldn't the first LBT movie be available to vote for as well? His role in that one was small, but bigger than in X and XIII, and he didn't even appear in IV.
Not that it matters to me, since I voted for LBT III. Between insulting the other herds, accusing Littlefoot of wasting water, forbidding Cera from playing with Littlefoot, becoming a water rationing tyrant, refusing to follow the longnecks' fire escape plan, and starting an argument that forced the gang to take charge of everything, Mr. Threehorn was never more truculent. (When I was younger, I rather disliked the third movie, because of all the "mean" characters in it.)

Character Discussion / Tickles!
« on: June 16, 2009, 02:14:51 AM »
Tickles is indeed a fun (not to mention cute) guest character. I really liked the idea of the gang making friends with a mammal. (It's a nice change from the usual role of Mesozoic mammals as either egg thieves or theropod fodder.) I thought the filmmakers could have done a lot more with Tickles, though; apart from helping the gang find Cera, and later saving Petrie from Ichy and Dil, he seemed to have a rather negligible role in the movie. :( (That was the impression I got, anyway.)
Another thing I wanted to mention about Tickles; has anyone else noticed that, for his size, he appears to possess the relative physical strength of the original Sharptooth? He is seen to be capable of lifting and dragging the tail of a Deinosuchus with little apparent effort, despite being light enough to be lifted into the air by a butterfly. Why isn't this little guy ever cited as having supernatural abilities? :p

General Land Before Time / Funniest Moments or Scenes

Ooh! Ooh! I’ve got one!
It’s from the TV episode “The Spooky Nighttime Adventure,” and for some reason, it cracks me up every time I hear it, or even when I recite it in my head.
The situation is that Petrie has just made the dubious claim of having glimpsed the fabled “Hidden Runner,” a dinosaur that is supposedly invisible.

Cera: Okay, Petrie, so what did this invisible runner look like?
Petrie: Like...like...NOTHING!
:lol  :lol  :lol

Okay, here goes:
What recently discovered Chinese dinosaur was discovered in a sleeping position, curled up with its snout tucked behind its arm like a bird? (It also beat out Minmi and Khaan [an oviraptorosaur] as the dinosaur with the shortest scientific name.)

Brain Food / Dinosaur trivia

How about Ceratosaurus?
1. A laterally flattened, horn-like nasal crest
2. Very large teeth (disproportionately so in the juveniles)
3. A ridge of bony plates down its spine.
Lived at the same time as Allosaurus, though. <_<

You aren't thinking of Dilophosaurus, are you? Most of the sources I've seen suggest that the Chinese species, D. sinensis is in a separate genus from the North American species. Ah, what the heck:
1. Two parallel semicircular crests on its head.
2. A kink in the upper jaw.
3. One of the largest known coelophysoids (wow; it's surprisingly hard to come up with a third characteristic for Dilophosaurus )
If I'm wrong, did this theropod's temporal range overlap Allosaurus's at all?

Character Discussion / Ruby
« on: June 15, 2009, 02:30:31 AM »
Quote
Well... Ruby may be larger than Chomper, but it is hard to see how she could keep him safe... she has no teeth, no ability to really fight, and her only defense is running away...
Just because an animal doesn’t have teeth doesn’t mean it can’t bite. Trust me; a scarlet macaw nipped me on the forearm once. It wasn’t much more than an annoyed pinch, and the fact that I was wearing a long-sleeved shirt meant that the bite didn’t even pierce the skin, and yet I still had a substantial bruise on that arm for at least two weeks afterwards (I didn’t hold it against the macaw, though :p). And while I can’t imagine a bite from Ruby would do much against a large sharptooth (though, for that matter, neither would one from Chomper), I have considerable respect for the jaw strength of any dinosaur that can pulverize a clam into a swallowable mouthful in about eight bites without the aid of teeth. :o

P.S. I am working on a mammoth post (more of a thesis, really) detailing my theories about Ruby, her home, family, species, and mission, that I will be posting here sometime in the near future (provided it doesn’t end up needing its own thread). Just thought I’d get this out of the way first. ;)

I think that’s from LBT XIII, spoken by Cera to Littlefoot after he asks her if it’s good or bad that his plan of how to find Berry Valley makes sense to Loofah.
