Silver Screen / The My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic Thread
« on: September 12, 2015, 11:17:05 PM »
I actually thought the same thing Malte.

Before I share my thoughts on this episode, I don't know how to blacken the spoilers so if you don't want to know what happens, then don't go any further. Also, if someone could show me what they did to blacken the spoilers then I'll be sure to do so.

I thought this was a pretty good episode. Like Malte, I was expecting Sassy to end up taking over the boutique. I was also expecting her to end up becoming the antagonist of the episode after she tries to show up Rarity a couple times in the beginning of the episode. I thought she would end up becoming this season's Suri Polomare (Probably spelled her first name wrong) and try to claim the boutique as hers.

I completely understood where Rarity was coming from in how Rarity didn't want to create if it meant making your creations part of an assembly line. And while the princess dress was nicely designed, I did like the other ones better.

Also, was I the only one who noticed that Cadence didn't get a dress made in her honor? What, Twilight, Celestia, and Luna get dresses but not Cadence? The heck, Rarity?

Gamers Zone / Jimmy Kimmel on Streamers/Let's Players
« on: September 07, 2015, 03:05:40 PM »
So lately there's been a lot of buzz in the gaming community about Jimmy Kimmel doing a skit on Let's players and people who watch them. Having just watched the skit, I was (not really) surprised to find that it was actually pretty harmless yet you have idiots from Youtube sending Kimmel horrible comments going as far as to threaten his own kid's life (Youtube posters doing such a despicable thing? Why I never).

The video in question.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ji9KmXwrA5Y

Truthfully, I can understand why Kimmel is so surprised by how much this Let's Play fad has taken off. A lot of Let's Players are older than me but even then, however, I just don't see the entertainment value in a Let's Play. What is so great about watching some numbnuts scream and act like a five year old while playing a video game? That's the kind of stuff I did when I was little and growing up with the N64(Not trying to insult the N64, I still love that console). Walkthroughs I can understand watching because those can actually be pretty helpful especially if you're on the fence about buying a certain game or if you're stuck at a certain part but Let's Plays I just don't get. To me, they're pretty much the lowest form of entertainment.

As for the whole controversy with Kimmel, the way the gaming community has been handling this is truly disgusting. It's one thing not to find a joke funny, I get that. Not everyone is going to find the same thing humorous but when you start threatening the lives of the man and his children, then you're really crossing the line. These guys want to prove to Kimmel that they're not losers or anything of the sort yet that's exactly how they're acting. They are embodying the very stereotypes that surround gamers (easily angered, irrational, violent, etc). Kimmel is older than most gamers today so obviously he's going to be confused by this. It happens with every previous generation. Heck, it's happening with people from our generation. Many of us don't understand why kids today like a certain thing, kind of like how our parents were/are with our interests and kind of like their parents before them and their parents before them. It's a generational thing that will more than likely always exist in some way or another.

EDIT: I guess I should probably mention that even though I don't like most Let's Plays, there are some I do find some entertainment in. Kr1t1kal is just one Let's Player I do find funny and that's because 1. He actually has pretty humorous commentary and 2. He doesn't need to pretend to be someone else when playing a game. DSP, or DarksydePhil, is another one I like (ironically) because it's just so amusing watching him flounder around with even the simplest task in a game.

Silver Screen / An American Tail
« on: September 06, 2015, 08:54:01 PM »
As someone who's studying animation (and writes his own comic series) I can tell you that keeping proportions consistent is very hard to do. In animation it's even harder since you have to draw the same character(s) so many times. Comic artists thankfully have more leeway in that regard.

I haven't seen American Tail since I was real little so I don't remember too much about it but it seems pretty strange to me that a rat character would end up being as big as cats, especially since the cats in American Tail are supposed to be anthropomorphic. It could be done to make the character seem more intimidating. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece does this often with his villains. He'll make them look much bigger in certain panels to make them appear more threatening.

Computer and Electronics / Google's Latest Logo
« on: September 03, 2015, 03:26:33 PM »
I can't say like or dislike Google's new logo. There's just nothing to like or dislike about it. As others have said, it's pretty bland and it doesn't have the same identity that the old one had.

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / Will the TV Series be continued?
« on: August 25, 2015, 10:13:05 PM »
More than likely which is why I'm hoping since she and Chomper will be in this movie, I hope they'll be able to provide her with an adequate backstory that will explain how she knows Chomper, where Chomper's parents are and what the deal was with Red Claw.

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / Will the TV Series be continued?
« on: August 25, 2015, 04:33:11 PM »
Even though Journey of the Brave (as it's now officially called) is going to be released soon, I don't think they'll be reviving the show. It's been eight years since the series had its "hiatus" and since it's been such a long time, I don't think they'll see need to bring it back especially since, from what I've heard, it didn't bring in much of an audience.

Part of the issue I saw with the TV series was that it came out at the wrong time. By the time it was released, LBT wasn't bringing Universal a profit anymore. People just weren't interested in LBT anymore. Had it been released sometime in the 90's when Land Before Time was at its peak I think the show would have had a better chance. Probably better animation too.

Silver Screen / Wow! Pixels must have SUCKED!
« on: August 22, 2015, 08:03:47 PM »
It's really too bad. The trailers looked pretty interesting from what I saw. I don't really care for Adam Sandler (although to be fair, Eight Crazy Nights did at least look nice) but I was still interested in seeing this just for the video game stuff.

Also Midnight, I do agree with you to some extent. You shouldn't completely listen to what a reviewer has to say but they do help give a general idea of what the movie/song/game etc. is going to be like before you see/play/listen to it.

The Fridge / Anyone else getting this?
« on: August 08, 2015, 12:22:39 AM »
So I've been browsing several different wikis (MLP, One Piece, Naruto, Metal Gear, even Land Before Time to name a few) and each one of them has had this strange pop up written in all Japanese lettering. I used Google Translate to make find out what it was saying and roughly it translates to "This community is asking the post of your such a fan! Let's edit the article."

Now I probably would have brushed it off if it was something that just popped up on wikis for eastern franchises like Metal Gear or One Piece but it's even popped up on wikis for western brands like MLP or Land Before Time. I doubt this thing is supposed to be showing up so I wonder if either 1. It's a new feature that's been/being installed on all Wikis (unlikely). 2. There's a virus or something on Wikia (possibly). Or 3. My computer has Malware on it that's making it pop up (also possible but seeing as how I didn't find anything out of the ordinary when I checked My Computer, I don't think it's that.

General Land Before Time / Would a 3D LBT be good or bad?
« on: August 06, 2015, 12:31:51 AM »
I just can't see Land Before Time working as a CG animated movie. Like Dr. Rex said, it's perfect in 2D and I don't think it needs to be changed. In fact, if there are anymore LBT movies after Journey of the Brave, I really hope they're done in the same 2D style.

General Land Before Time / Look at what I had found!
« on: August 05, 2015, 10:25:25 PM »
In response to Ludichris1 (I know I'm replying to a two year old post), there actually is a band called Little Foot Long Foot. I haven't really listened to any of their stuff but I discovered them by, of course, looking up Littlefoot on Google. Wonder if Littlefoot would ever listen to their songs.

That's pretty cool that Petrie shares his name with a school. I wonder if it's a high school, middle school, or grade school.

General Land Before Time / Journey of the Brave (LBT 14)
« on: July 30, 2015, 07:54:16 PM »
Oh God. Nostalgia. Overload. Can't. Take.

CHILDHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDD!!!!!

Phew. Sorry about that. I just can't believe the gang's really back. Anyway, the trailer looks pretty awesome. I like that the animation isn't CGed like some of us were fearing. The voices are still pretty good (the new kid they got to voice Littlefoot sounds perfect for the role). The only voice I don't think fits is Reba McEntire as the Pteranodon. Her voice just doesn't sound like it fits the character to me. Of course, I could end up being wrong but right now, it just sounds kind of odd.

I'm also interested to see Chomper and Ruby in the movie. Perhaps this will be a prequel to the TV series and show us how the two of them ended up in the Great Valley?

1988 Theatrical Release / Blu-Ray Release Date: Oct. 13
« on: July 22, 2015, 04:45:09 AM »
I'm really surprised LBT never got released on Blu Ray sooner. Well better late than never at least. I have it on DVD so I probably won't pick it up on Blu Ray unless my DVD copy somehow stops working.

If this is indeed true, I wonder if the sequels will get Blu Ray releases. I'd say it's probably unlikely but hey, you never know.

It is? Maybe I've just become really desensitized to horror, maybe it's because I've seen some pretty messed up stuff (in movies, real life, internet, etc) but if this is supposed to be scary then it's a pretty darn tame kind of scary. I don't know, to me it looks more like cover art from a Gorillaz album (not dissing the Gorillaz either, I love their songs).

Oh, we got a Halloween episode coming? I only skimmed through the list and didn't see that there was a Halloween episode in there. Thanks for clearing that up, Pokeplayer.

It's too bad the new Equestria Girls won't be theatrical. Then again, I didn't get to see the first one or Rainbow Rocks when they were in theaters so I guess it doesn't really matter to me anyway. Which reminds me, I need to watch Rainbow Rocks again. I still haven't done a review of it on my DA journal.

EDIT: I just noticed I got the 5,200th post on here! Nice!

I'm pretty late in sharing my thoughts on this episode. Ponyception. It's a pony within a pony.

First I have to ask why we're getting a mini hiatus in between the first and second halves of the season? They never did this with previous seasons of pone. I know season three had mini hiatuses in between episodes but that was usually just a week in between.

Anyway, this was a really fun episode. Some great character development for Princess Luna and it's neat getting to see the mane six's nightmares (Rainbow Dash's was by far the scariest. Brrr). I also liked how all of Ponyville had a hand in stopping the tantabus. Some of the dreams the other ponies have are quite hilarious and for some (Scootaloo for instance) pretty heartwarming.

The tantabus was a pretty cool and surprisingly threatening villain. I was surprised that a one shot villain managed to be so dangerous. Usually the one shot villains were either ridiculously incompetent (the diamond dogs) or acting sorely on instinct (the parasprites). Also, on a final note, Big Mac is best princess! Sorry Luna but that title's been given to another.

Gamers Zone / Satoru Iwata Dies of Cancer at 55
« on: July 13, 2015, 04:17:00 AM »
I was planning to post this before my computer started messing up on me on this site.

I'll post some of what I said from my DA journal: I didn't agree with the way he ran Nintendo and like many people, I may have found myself annoyed with his excuses but I never once doubted that he was a good person who did a lot for Nintendo and gaming as a whole. He seemed like a really happy, friendly guy and that's very rare to see a CEO or anyone in a position of that sort who's like that. I wish I could have met him at least once.

Either tomorrow or the next day, I plan on doing a drawing in tribute to Iwata. If anybody would like, I'll share it once it's complete.

EDIT: I'd be lying if I said I wasn't crying my eyes out less than a half an hour ago because of this. The last time I found myself this upset over the death of a person I never got to meet was when Satoshi Kon died back in 2010.

Double post but I just found some stuff regarding the second half of season five and season six http://www.equestriadaily.com/2015/07/sdcc...oints.html#more

Some noteworthy reveals

Quote
Fluttershy has a brother. We will see him soon!

Quote
Apple Family stuff on the way, with Hearthswarming Eve episode on the way for it.

Quote
New character coming: Orchard Blossom. Meghan thinks shes hilarious

Some Q & A stuff

Quote
Q: Why can't vinyl speak?
A: She speaks through her music. Maybe she chooses not to speak. They like her as the pony of no words, because it makes her cooler

Quote
Q: Are there going to be more comics in season 6?
A: As long as people keep buyin them!

Quote
Q: What season are the CMC Getting their cutie marks?
A: When they deserve them. They asked if they want them to get their marks, and all the kids said yes.

There's more stuff provided on the link, including the return of a certain villain. I'm glad to hear that the comics will continue and I hope that sooner or later, the Cutie Mark Crusaders finally do get their cutie marks. The part about Fluttershy having a brother sounds rather interesting. How much you want to bet he'll be the exact opposite of his sister?

Huh. That makes sense. I've never heard anyone say "Let's mend the fence" so this didn't make much sense to me. Thanks, and again, sorry if I seemed whiny in my last post.
