The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

And that¥s good to do it that way. Just don¥t think about these silly awards any longer. They are just fun like someone here said before :)

Ok, from the newbie who's foot just got in the door, so I don't feel like I have a...reference of time to really have witnessed enough to have a good comment on this, if you will and that made sense at all, but...

I'd say from what I've seen, I don't even remember if I read the whole award's thread, the systems set up in a pretty good and fair way for a forum, as alot of stuff on this forum has seemed.

I'm sure it does have everything to do with what I read in maybe the Admin blog(?) with the fact that this board is run by like six or more people essentially and that does seem to be contributing to the success I've seen that's got this newbie pretty impressed and thinking this board's not going ot just die on me shortly after I join, which has happened before.

Yeah, cut and dry simple I've never been a proponent of "every kid making the team". How people treat me tells me more about what they think of me really, but I'm not judging what anyone's said just stating my own opinion with that.

Truthfully if you guys have been making the awards system work for this long with no problems, just knowing human nature, then there's a kudos to that.

But not to sound perfect here, LBTfan13 don't feel bad, my personal feelings have gotten wrapped up way beyond what's needed on others places and with non cyber stuff, I think it happens to all of us really whether we say it or not :D

What I need to do to feel more like "one of the gang", I've decided is come up with some cute quote for under my avatar or something, it's so empty under there :D

The way I see it, the awards are just for fun and should not be done away with nor reduced to being hidden in member profiles.  Before any assumptions about me are made here, I will say for the record that I have hardly ever won any kind of reward.  The rare job of babysitting others' pets and getting paid for it is about the extent of rewards I ever receive.  I'd do it more often but being a full-time student and working (may start a second job shortly) don't allow much time for such a duty.  To be honest, I'm very surprised I was even nominated for Most Appreciated Member, let alone receiving numerous nominations.  Every member here is awesome and contributes to the GOF in their own fashions.  These awards are not intended to make members feel inadequate.  Besides, it's up to the members to decide who should receive what award, and their impressions of each other play a significant role in the decision-making.  The best thing to do is to be yourself and show other members the same respect they've shown ya.  That's how folks grow to like a person, be it online or in person.  Don't feel so down-hearted, for everyone here is valuable and appreciated, and that includes yourself ;).

Heh. That's just the problem. If I was shown more respect by some of the other members, I would have won something by now. I'm not accusing anyone specifically of disrespect, but I've done what you said for the last three years now. As it is, it is a matter of publicity and being showy more than anything else, as much as I hate to admit it. To that end, I am increasing my participation, and I have added an avatar, which I later found out that an avatar is something that almost ALL the winners have. If nothing else, being without it was like being a country without a flag, or a religion without a symbol...

Still, thank you for the advice. I will try to win the proactive award or the RP award; the former is a bit more likely than the latter...
