The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Double posting issues

Hi everyone!

Some of us are experiencing some problems when creating a new topic or posting a reply. If you get the message 'database error', don't refresh or go back to post it again. Your post will be there, it simply won't show on the homepage or on the daily topics list. Just visit the gang of five again and check your topic to see if your reply has been recorded.

If you did double post it's not your fault, just message one of the admins and we will take care of it.

We don't know why this is happening or if it's on our end or on our host (invisionfree), but we'll look into it.

This issue was really bad for me.  But I have seen the same thing happen to others.  It's not pretty.  I'm pretty certain it's on Invision's end and has nothing to do with us.  If it continues I'll look at the gangoffive.net domain and see if there are any issues with that that might be causing this.

EDIT:  I know what the issue is now.  There's a problem with the general PHP database that prevents certain minor aspects from updating.  I just commented here and if you look at the post itself, it says there are 0 replies.  The database can't update post count and who knows what else.  Certainly not a crippling problem, but it does need to be manually solved.  Let's hope the staff at Invision know about the problem and are doing their best to fix it.

Yeah I don't think there's anything we can do about it right now. Only wait until it gets resolved.

It seems to affect the marking of threads in which new posts have been made as well. Apparently new posts are not indicated until one opens the very thread in which they are. I do hope that invisionfree will sort this out quickly.

^ Maybe they did :)
There weren't any problems in posting the preceeding message and the new post was shown as it should be.
