The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm happy that you dare pointing out things that aren't right :yes

I must say this has to be your best drawing of Cera I've seen so far.
Thanks a bunch! :D I'm glad that I have got your favourite character right.

Very nice! smile.gif You have captured the outlines of Cera and Spike nearly perfectly.
After a lot of fixing, it eventually looked pretty good but it was a hard way to get there :p Chomper was the toughest, strangely. I'm not sure if it's a mistake of the animators (that I might have copied) or just a matter of perspective that Chomper's snout is kind of stubby. Petrie just didn't look so great on the screenshot but I tried my best to copy his (fairly tough) pose. That  being said, I'm happy that you like the drawing :)

I've gotta admit though Spikes colours is too dark.....
Quote
The only issue that I can see is that Spike is colored a bit too dark.
If both of you have noticed this, than it must be true :smile Well, the pencils I have not always match the colours the characters have. Neither of my (3) green pencils matches Spike's tone of green, unfortunately. I have tried the other dark green one on Spike here but apparently it's even darker than the one I was previously using on the Spiketail. I'll remember that next time for sure and again thanks for pointing out. I do appreciate critism, nobody is perfect after all :p

I look forward to seeing what you have next. in-yes.gif I am especially looking forward to your first drawing without a reference.
I'll say that much: The next one is from LBT 5, it has a background and Spike is on it again (I don't remember which of the two pencils I used here though :p). The rest you will have to see next sunday if I am able to keep my schedule ;)
As for the drawing without reference... it has Flyers :lol

Alright, I bet you're gonna like this one :lol

sketch:

coloured:

Spike, Ducky and Petrie are having a photo shooting but Petrie doesn't seem to like it :lol I decided to add a background to this one since it looks much nicer that way. I admit though: The tree doesn't look very good but I didn't want to take any risk of ruining the picture being very close to finishing it so I went  the safe route. Might not look that great I like it nevertheless :yes Hope you do so too! :D

Yeah, used my other dark-green pencil that has a slightly different touch to it (but it's crappy :p). I bought a new set of coloured pencil on Friday and I'm pleased to find out how these colours work on the characters. :yes
Thanks for the comment ^^

Wonderful!    I've noticed that all your sketches are pretty clean & you sorta "guess" how all lines & curves should be arranged from first go - how do you make it?   In my case, I can spend some 1 or 2 hours on a sketch of a character (that's much simple than these in LBT) till I get it almost 1:1, but then the whole sheet is full of lines & etc, so I have to guess which one among many ||||||'s in the correct one for outlining.  Having outlined it finally, I then trace it to a clean sheet & color/outline there.

Wow!  :wow That is the best drawing yet!

The coloring is extremely well done and the outline work is nearly perfect from what I can see.  The rock that they are sitting on also looks very well done.  The coloring of Spike is much better this time and I am glad to hear that you found some new pencils with more available colors.

Keep up the good work.  :)

Well, my "sketches" are usually already cleaned up and outlined when I scan them. I would need a whole lot more attempts to get lines right if I weren't using screenshots though (that's something I try to do less in the future :angel). I don't use much pressure at first so lines are easy to erase without staying visible to some extend. I erase lines that don't seem right right away, usually. As soon as I have finished the basic lineart, I do small corrections if they are necessary and go over the lines again with a little more pressure so they are more visible (sometimes using a "softer" pencil since they're usually darker (depends on what pencil I've been using for the sketch... either a hard or a really hard one) --> better visible). I used to do the final outlines with a pencil that was "too" soft so it was smeared when I coloured the pics. Therefore, I do the final outlining after the colouring now (using the soft one). Everything that's supposed to be black I colour with the softest pencil I have btw (e.g. eyes, eyelashes etc).
Of course, I do edit the scans a little to enhance the quality and just make it look nicer. I usually make them a little darker so the lines are really dark and clear, I increase the contrast slightly (though sometimes it looks better if I slightly decrease it...) and, most importantly, I make everything sharper ^^ The coloured versions are usually treated similar, only that I usually increase the saturation somewhat to make the colours a little brighter (but only a tad ;))
I edit my scans on photobucket where I also host the pictures I upload here (since the site doesn't allow direct uploads).
Hope that clears it up a little ;) 1-2 hours of work are about how much time I need for the sketches as well, depends on the number and complexity of the characters of course...

Thanks for the praise :angel I'm very happy that you think so. I was a little concerned about the rocks but then I decided to use my pencils here rather than the brown in the original screenshot. Shading is something I have yet to get the hang of but I'm working on that :yes Did an attempt on shading the colours last week and the result was good enough to keep (and upload it eventually ^^)

I'm VERY happy with the result. The colouring is pretty well done I think but let's see what you guys think... ;)

Hope you like it! ^^

This is fairly good. I myself find Littlefoot tricky to draw. What scene from witch film is this based off?

Thanks! :)

Yes, Littlefoot is very tricky to draw. This is based off a scene at the end of LBT 2 just before they sing Peaceful Valley (Reprise). To be honest, the original shot has a second character. I did draw him/her but on a separate piece of paper. It's gonna come soon, there will be one, maybe two pics that I made a little earlier so I'm gonna put these up first ;)

very nice.  :) I would imagine that drawing longnecks would be quite difficult, especially the shoulder area.

Remake time guys :lol

Since my first version of this drawing wasn't that good (and poorly edited :bang) I decided to draw this again. In the future, I'll do a few of these but only one is sketched out yet so... might take me a while until the next one will be uploaded ;)
Hope you like it, yep, yep, yep! ^^
