Panting, Littlefoot carefully drew himself to his feet. He did so with all the slow deliberation of a man walking on thin ice, his eyes squinted in fear that something was going to break. But to his relief, aside from the same raw, slightly burning feeling in his lungs, he didn't feel any differently than normal. He saw his grandparents fairly easily out of the crowd, and in that moment, Littlefoot saw they looked exactly like he had a moment ago. They moved slowly, deliberately, and with the same expression that was if they were afraid something in them would break if strained too hard.
Littlefoot tightens his lips, but quickly reaffirmed his stance with a glance at his friends'd worried looks.
"If they were able to make it this far on their own, I don't think they're in any serious danger yet," he said a loud, in some part to his friends, mostly to himself.
"Uh... Let's not mention what just happened to the adults. I don't think they'll be too keen to let us go find medicine if they knew."
The bright circle was now in the final phase of setting, and their parents were throwing shadows against the ground that were longer than they were as they got closer and closer.
A sliver of the night circle was rising behind him. Littlefoot didn't look. He was too afraid he'd see some giant winged thing flying underneath it.
"You have the supplies?" Littlefoot whispered to Ruby, and realized with some stab of self accusation that he still didn't trust the adults to make the right choice when they got here.
