I’m guessing they left out the ending in order not to spoil it for anyone who reads the book before seeing the film. I remember they did something like this with a book adaptation of the third “Pirates of the Carribean” film.

I always considered it as strange decision... Spoiling more than 2/3 of the film and not showing the ending.
