The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Bron's excuse for vanishing.

Personally, I think it was a pretty poor job.  Coming up with a reasonable scenario isn't that hard.  I have one here:

Bron  was chased by Sharptooth.  He was able to get away, but hit his head on a rock and lost his memory (he probably wouldn't know the word "amnesia") and he forgot who he was for many years.

Eventually, he remembers and goes searching for Littlefoot and his wife.  However, he finds that his wife has been killed by Sharptooth and that his son is missing.  He would pick up longnecks, looking for Littlefoot.

Also, the chased by Sharptooth idea could give his wife and Grandpa and Grandma Longneck the impression that Sharptooth made a meal of him (which would explain why they didn't go looking for him either, something the film also doesn't explain with Bron's reason for being absent for so long.)

Also, if Littlefoot thought he lost Bron to Sharptooth, and then lost his mother to him, it would make him very determined to kill Sharptooth like he did.  (But, on the flip side, he'd be, one would think, even more skeptical of Chomper for that very reason.)

Yeah, the movie didn't really explain it all that well. I don't think the writers were concerned with making a good backstory and were just slapping something together because they didn't think children would really notice. Which is unfortunate because Bron's story could have been a lot better and more interesting.

I think the story he gave Littlefoot was a super condensed version that left out most details, just to get the basic idea across. But by doing so, he left some unanswered questions.

Why did he leave?
Why did he did he feel the need to find another place to raise Littlefoot?
What took him so long to get back?
Why didn't he try the valley, or had he but at the wrong time?

I'm sure there's others.

Personally I do think Bron has good reasons for the absense that don't paint him as a "deadbeat dad" or "someone trying to shirk responsbility". Bron searching endlessly for Littlefoot for all that time does show he was willing to make up for his absense by finding the son he knew was out there and nurture him. He also shows regret when speaking with Littlefoot (his expression says it all), which shows that he is not proud of his decision and would have done things differently. And he certainly doesn't seem like the type to just "shirk responsibility" because he is taking care of a large herd (which also includes Shorty, the orphan dinosaur who looked up to him as a dad), so he has a lot on his shoulders.

I still think that he left only for a short time or planned to, but that he got lost or chased by Sharptooth for miles and couldn't find his way back or perhaps got a head injury and couldn't recall that he had a family for many years.

As I said, if his absence was so long, why did his wife and her parents go looking for him?  It's not just Bron that didn't go looking, they didn't go looking for him either!!!!!

I think this thread calls for a link to this one ;)
I admit that the extreme incoherence with the first movie and lack of plausibility in Bron's story have been my main causes for my strong aversion against the 10th movie.
