Hi guys,

as some of you already know, I am taking this challenge this year in order to get better at art and leave my comfort zone. Although I am 3 days behind at current, I took the late evening off to do some editing on the works I've done so far to show them here and elsewhere

So without further ado, here goes

First of all something general: It would be way too time-intensive to colour those DURING the challenge so you may see some of those again a few weeks later, though certainly not all of those..

#1 SWIFT Petrie (The Land Before Time Fanart)


Started right off with a Land Before Time-related drawing. The prompt was... inviting to say to least

I'm happy with the result to be honest. It wasn't easy to get the beak and wings right but I think I got it about right there.

#2 DIVIDED by death (original)


Well, this one turned out... dark. I can have a dark mind sometimes, almost liking tragedy and despair sometimes. Guess I just have a thing for these things.

I am far from saying this is good. I should definitely redraw the scene after the challenge is over, fixing all the mistakes that I made. The girl is supposed to be random although I could picture myself changing the character when I redraw it.

#3 Kanna the POISON dealing loli dragon (Miss Kobayashi's dragon maid anime fanart)


Well, this one's my favourite so far! Definitely recommend watching the anime too, it's so goood! xD

One thing I do need to say though... drawing hands is evil, drawing anime hair even more so... and don't get me started on complicated clothing like Kanna's wearing >_<
Oh, but I'm pretty pleased by the perspective here. It's my biggest enemy these days...

#4 UNDERWATER Baby Dory (Finding Dory Fanart)


Actually, I wanted to draw a Land before time scene for that one but that proved to be more tricky than it was worth so I quickly abandoned that thought. Instead I remembered a certain thing on my long list of things I should draw one day... baby Dory! :

Well, it was a fairly easy drawing although getting her eyes to look cute was a challenge for some reason...

#5 that's a LONGneck for ya (The Land Before Time Fanart)


Well, what should I say? I couldn't resist! xD

This one turned out great, considering I tried to distance myself from the reference and turned it a bit more into something of my own. Particularly the head is a bit different + I tried to draw a girl longneck here (not specifying who it is because it doesn't matter unless I colour it )

#6 Darth Ducky wielding her Lazor SWORD (Land Before Time/Star Wars Crossover? idk...)


This happens when I'm having no clue what to draw xD Disclaimer: I hate Star Wars, but lazor swords are cool

Well, this needs to be redrawn for sure. I think I made a quick sketch right after school, then left to do other things and later that day my artistic flow was kinda non-existant so I just kept what I had lol

#7 SHY Hinata (Naruto anime fanart)


Wasn't my original plan to draw her but my original idea would have taken hours to draw again and, probably, failed

I actually drew Hinata before so I didn't have a hard time getting her right. Still couldn't do it from memory tho... her hands were a bit tricky again but #3 gave me some practise already ^^

#8 CROOKED eggstealer (The Land Before Time Fanart)


Really had to think about that one. To begin with, the word wasn't familiar xD

In the end though, I decided to go with the more people-related meaning of the word and went with some eggstealer from The land Before Time ^^

#9 SCREECH (The Land Before Time Fanart)


(I don't think I need to elaborate my inspiration for this one here   But... I don't wanna type it up on 4 different places so..)

For those who are familiar with the tv-series of The Land Before Time, I think there's no further explanation needed where I took that inspiration from. For those who don't know... this is a character... his name is Screech! Yeah, lame I know

Drawing raptors was never really a strength of mine... I think I got this one just about right though. Just a simple drawing because I was away that weekend resulting in a two day delay that I haven't been able to catch up with ever since.

#10 GIGANTIC titan is gigantically ugly (Attack on Titan anime fanart)


Well... let us just say I had to draw SOMEthing >_> (highly recommend the anime btw)

This is where I got really frustrated for the first time during this challenge. I had a super cool scene from The Land Before Time in mind with an awesome perspective and all that. Thing is, neither could I assess any screenshots helping me in my quest (for that I'd have had to search through thousands of these) nor did I succeed in finding any helpful guidances about the sort of perspective I had in mind. You find a lot of useful tutorials online about anything art-related (having barely scratched the surface yet of what is there to see and learn from) but I didn't get lucky. Thing is I love positioning the viewer in a pretty low position pretty close to the characters because, personally, I find that it looks mighty cool that way.. I just can't pull it off yet :/

Long story short, I remembered this weird-looking titan from one of the episodes of the anime and decides to do a loose sketch, also because most other titans had much more details and I am short on time atm

in November/December I guess but not all of them. Colouring with coloured pencils takes a lot of time sometimes especially if you wanna make sure it looks at least decent

I'm surprised by the fact that I've seen almost all of these. I thought for sure that I missed a lot given how little I'm on discord. (though I do generally scroll back at missed messages if they're aren't too many)

#1 I don't have too much to say about this one. Overall it was done well and I enjoy the pose that you picked for Petrie for this one.

#2 This is the one that I missed. I like the idea for this one (and for the record, I would have never been able to guess this is what it was ). A few things come to mind with this one. First off, the candle, the girl, and part of the bushes surrounding the grave (Is that what they are? Not that I'm judging as I've practically avoided environments up to this point) are all slanted to the right. As for the girl herself, the fist on the left seems like it has one too many fingers? The left side of the dress is also looking a little ragged (not sure if this was intentional). Lastly, some things could have been made drawn to look more 3d. The candle can have a bit of a rounded bottom to give it a cylindrical appearance. From the way the front of the bottom part of the dress is drawn, part of the inside of the dress would probably be seen as it wraps around the girl. The cross can also be given more of a rectangular look. The same angle could then be used for the perimeter of bushes(?) that surround the cross to keep things consistent (assuming the left and right side run parallel to the direction of the cross' face).

I should state that I do understand that with time being a factor here things can get rushed.

#3 I haven't seen this anime so I can't really comment too much on this but it looks like you did a good job on the detail for the clothes and you did do what I was trying to explain in #2 with the bottom of the dress. Yep, fists are hard. I always spend a large chuck of time awkwardly trying to look at my own fists. Anyways, I guessing she is holding a cylindrical type object in her right hand which would mean she would probably grab it from the side instead of the top. Despite what you say about drawing hair, it seems like you did a good job with it. I agree with you that this is one of your bests in this list.


I'm gonna go to bed now so I'll comment on the rest later.

A really nice project you have here! I'm happy to see you trying to improve your drawing skills as it's always great to see decent art. I, for one, can't draw at all so I have to respect the others for trying to do so. Well, let's see the drawings. It seems like there are some that are really good and ones that aren't quite as impressive.

The Petrie drawing is really cool as there's great sense of movement and joy in it! The anatomy seems quite good and I really like the feeling of the drawing. Well done!

The second drawing is a more complex one and there are many things that I could point out. It has a decent idea and the expression works somewhat well but her body is too small and her hands have very little definition. Additionally, the flowers bother me badly. And the cross is pointing the wrong way.

The character in the third drawing looks weird but I think it's because of the anime and not the artist. The details in her clothes look rather good and smooth but her face is very simplistic. Otherwise this drawing is quite cool!

The Dory one is the simplest of all of these and it succeeds in being cute. I don't have much else to say about it though.

The Littlefoot picture is likely the best one of all of these as the expression, anatomy and the smoothness are really good there! The only problem that caught my eye are the left eye's eyelashes as they seem pretty odd.

The sixth drawing (the Ducky one) seems to be done much quicker and there are several problems here. For example, the pencil lines are blurred and the head is far too big. Nice idea though!

As for the next one, it is once again a stronger one! The details work rather well and Hinata looks, well, like Hinata. The expression is quite successful and the overall outlook of the picture works really nicely! Good job here!

Ozzy looks quite mean and the pose is quite nice! The drawing is quite faithful to the character and the overall lines are quite smooth also. Not the most complex picture but it is a good rendition of the egg stealer's normal expression.

The Screech one isn't as good, though. The neck is far too big and his mouth looks quite weird here.  The perspective is quite problematic and it takes a lot of attention away from the pluses of the drawing.

As for the last one, you replicated the Titan's sweet expression faithfully! I love AoT:s Titans' expressions as they are often goofy and creepy at the same time like the one portrayed here. The drawing looks nice and manages to recreate the character quite well. This is another good one!

Sorry for the rather short and stern picture-by-picture comments but there were pretty many of them. Anyway, I'll look forward to seeing what the rest of your pictures for the challenge will be!

#1 I don't have too much to say about this one. Overall it was done well and I enjoy the pose that you picked for Petrie for this one.

Thank you I kinda wanted to draw a pose where Petrie is taking a dive directly towards the camera/viewer but realised it was beyond my abilities at the moment

Ah, glad I didn't mess up the dress too badly this time Yeah, Kanna is holding/offering an object filled with a mysterious fluid in it. From the side you say? Hmm, now that I think about it... yep makes sense

You got that quite right about the impressive and not so impressive drawings

Well, at some point I had this and there was the option to spent th erest of the night on redrawing it or just keeping what I've got. Also had a different perspective in mind than I ended up with, I guess that attributed to a lot of the mess ups.

Oh, awesome! I'll see what I can do about the eye lashes, yep yep yep! Usually just draw three or four in a more a less random way, haha.

Well, at least the idea was nice I also wouldn't say her head is too big but rather... everything else turned out too small/thin. Will be redrawn, will look much better then!

Hehe, that's why Hinata is so funny. Always blushing and seemingly the damsel in distress all the time but the girl got balls when Naruto's life is on the line or that of her friends. Thanks!

#5 I'm getting a LBTXI boxart vibe from this one. Another really good one. I really like how you drew the face and expression. Her spine should actually bulge out from her back however.

#6 The look of pure evil This is hilarious, I love it. For a quick sketch the I think the face is pretty good. The sword seems to be lacking any kinda hilt. It just sorta pops out of Ducky's hands.

#7 Hinata is drawn well and most notably the hands are looking a lot more realistic here then in your other drawings. Other than her one eye looking a little square I don't have any other criticism.

#8 Ozzy was a good choice for crooked and this smile is best suited for this category as well. I don't really have any complaints on this one. Looks good!

#9 Was this supposed to be Screech screeching? To me he looks like he is yawning? (probably due to his eye being closed) From this perspective it feels like his upper part of his mouth is shorter than the lower part. His teeth on the left side are also pointing into his mouth when they should be pointed upwards. Sovereign also pointed out how his neck is too wide and I agree. You can see that the left part of the neck is farther out then the eye, which is where the edge of his face is at that point in the drawing.

#10 I didn't like this one at first but I've come to like it a lot more. The facial features are great here, with the detail around his mouth really make...uhh whatever it is doing with it's mouth believable.

The thing is, I don't know if there is any such scene unless I see this perspective somewhere in them (I have all 14 movies + tv-series too )
Let me just say what I was trying to draw:

Saurus Rock (which I didn't need to reference), the gang looking at it at a very steep angle so it would appear super gigantic from their POV. For the Gang I needed very specific poses. It's hard to describe  :unsure:

I'm referring to the little bulges. As it goes over the peak of the back it stays level with the rest of it when it should be raised up. I hope what I said makes sense. It feels hard to explain.
