The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Back it Up!

I am always surprised at how many of my clients don't back up their data.  When their computer crashes, they lose all of their files.  I always back up my data, usually on external hard drives, but also online.  What do you use to back up your data?  If you don't back up your data, why not?  Which method do you prefer?  Do you have a lot of files so you need an external hard drives to store everything, or do you have so little to back up that you use a 1gb flash drive?  How often do you back up?  Daily?  Weekly?  Monthly?  What files are you most afraid of losing?

You can get a 500gb for only $120 usually.  Not that big of a deal.  That's almost how much I pay for internet each month.

:lol That's what I'd do too.

If you're having problems with ram, try increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file.

It changes some of your hard drive space into ram.  You can add up to 4gb of ram without buying anything!  If you have 2 hard drives, you can add up to 8gb or ram!

If you have 2gb of ram or more, I wouldn't suggest doing this.  Your computer can only use so much.  I have 8gb of ram in mine (I actually spent money for the chips) and I probably only use 1gb normally.  Except when making icons.  That can take up to 5gb of ram right there!

Hit or miss on backups....usually my laptop harddrive and external one are identical save for some music/video files because they're just eating away at valuable space.  If not that, I've done cd/dvd-r backups.

Thankfully I have enough spare computers that I can backup on other machines without losing valuable space, so I do so.

I have 2 or 3 copies of my music collection, project files, and any irreplaceable data, with each copy being on a different hard drive (for sure) or even on a different computer.  My web server currently doubles as a backup machine.  I never sit at it, but it's running 24/7, allowing me to copy anything I want to it, in private folders.

If any of my computers decided to die right now, I wouldn't actually lose anything except the time to reinstall.
