Wait a sec.... let's see (BSG stuff in parentesis for comparison purposes). Dinosaurs weren't able to live in their homes anymore so the herds made an exodus (Cylons attacked the 12 Colonies of Kobol, making them uninhabitable, so the last survivors made an exodus), hunted by Sharpteeth and other dangers, these dinosaur's last hope is to find a place to live, a mythical place called the "Great Valley" (hunted by the Cylons and other dangers, humanity's last hope is to find a place to live, a mythical planet called Earth).

Funny how we are all forced to follow the less-travelled path to make good stories. The comparison was made with both the new re-imaginated version of Battlestar Galactica and the original serie from 1978.

Sounds like maybe what the adults and others could have been doing while the gang went to the great valley. Though maybe fast biters & sharpteeth instead of cylons. But it is close, I've not thought about it till I read your post.
