The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Something up with the ScrewAttack Forums

Okay, today I decided to finally become a member of the forums at ScrewAttack.com.  So I went and put in all the information needed, set it up to my needs, blah, blah, blah, and I click the Register button.

However, it then says that my e-mail address has been banned.  WTF?

I've NEVER attempted to become a member of that forums until now and they tell me that I'm banned for something that would make me have to be a member before?  WTH?

Could someone please get to the bottom of this for me?  It's driving me nuts!

I've just tried two of my e-mail addresses wtih the same result. I don't believe it's anything we did, and or anything they suspected. It could be a problem on their end, something faulty with their registration system.

Or they've read about you and blocked the email you use at other forums...

That's a scary thought, but I could block an email from being used on here if I wanted to.  I'm pretty sure its a bug on their end.

Sounds like either a bug in a program or they went to ban a certain email and made a mistake and banned a lot or a programming bug ended up banning a lot.

I found out what the problem was, Pokeplayer. I did a search in the ScrewAttack forums and found a topic about one guy claiming his friend couldn't register because his e-mail account was banned even though he never joined (sound familiar?).

Well the reason wasn't because of an error as I thought. Since Yahoo and Hotmail accounts are abused by spambots, they've decided to ban all hotmail and yahoo e-mails. Registering with a gmail address should work.

Got any good places where I could set up such an e-mail in mind? :)

Google will probably work. I think that's what gmail is. And it's an e-mail address that is accepted on the forums. So maybe you'll be able to register if you get a Google e-mail address.

Gmail is awesome!  Almost 6gb of space for messages and it grows every second.  Just go to gmail.com and look at the amount of space you've got. :D It also loads the message windows around 5 times faster than yahoo, hotmail, lycos, and several others I've tried.

Is gmail finally out of that beta they've been in since I joined years ago?  I could send you an invite if that's still required.

Oh yeah, gmail is way passed the beta stage.  First you needed invites and then you needed to have a code sent to your cell phone. What a pain in the butt.  It's awesome now.  You can sign up in five minutes and you don't need to pay anything or get invites anymore. :D
