Here are the Portuguese versions of LBT, however I'll have to give two, since there are differences between the Brazilian Portuguese (BR) translation which is the one that's commercialized and the European Portuguese (PT) which is the one shown on TV (=

English to Portuguese translation:

The Land Before Time = Em Busca Do Vale Encantado

The Great Valley Adventure = A aventura continua

The Time of the Great Giving = A era da grande partilha (BR), O tempo da grande partilha (PT)

Journey Through the Mists = Viagem atravÈs da Neblina (PT), Viagem pela terra das brumas (BR)

The Mysterious Island = A ilha misteriosa

The Secret of Saurus Rock = O mistÈrio da Rocha Saurus

The Stone of Cold Fire = A Pedra de Fogo Frio

The Big Freeze = A grande nevasca

Journey to Big Water = Viagem aos oceanos

The Great Longneck Migration = A grande migraÁ„o

Invasion of the Tinysauruses = Invas„o dos minissauros

The Great Day of the Flyers = O dia dos voadores

The Wisdom of Friends = Sabedoria dos Amigos

Littlefoot = PÈzinho (PT), Littlefoot (BR)

Spike = Espig„o (PT), Espora (BR)

Chomper = Guloso (BR), Chomper (PT)

Ducky = Patola (PT), Patassaura (BR)

Cera = Cera (PT), Saura (BR)

Sharptooth = Tiranossauro (BR), Dente Afiado (PT)

Longneck = PescoÁo Comprido (PT), PescoÁo Longo (BR)

Threehorn = Tr’s Chifres (BR)

Flyer = Voador

Swimmer = Nadador

Spiketaile = Cauda de esporas (BR)

Grandma, grandpa = AvÛ

Bright circle = Circulo Brilhante (BR), Sol (PT)

Big Water = ¡gua Grande

The Great Valley = Vale Encantado

The Mysterious Beyond = O misterioso alÈm

Land of Mists = Terra da Neblina (PT), Terra das Brumas (BR)

At least these are all I could think of =P
I'm hip, I'm cool. I'm a happening fool

Not really. I think "A aventura continua" means "The Adventures Continues". It's not rare that translator may change the title a bit. But i don't think i would be able to recognize any character, except for Sharptooth.

If the Portuguese and the Russian name of the land before time was literally translated back into English, what would the names mean? The German title would literally translate into "In a land before our time" (makes sense in a way as obviously there is time in the land before time :P:).

"Земля до Начала Времен" means "The Land Before the Beginning of Times".

"Em Busca do Vale Encantado" translates to "The Search for the Enchanted Valley", I forgot, the great valley is called "vale encantado", which means enchanted valley, although in the later movies they say "grande vale" which means great valley, but I think it's a lapse of the brasilian translators.

I don't know, but I wouldn't agree too much with the version the portuguese translated... Than Littlefoot was translated litterally, to "Pezinho" (Little Foot). Ducky was "Patola" (give it a variation of the name duck, and Patola is not the literal translation). All others gave literal translations, from Longneck being "PescoÁo longo" and Threehorn being "TricÛrnio" (correct me if I'm wrong in this one). Sorry for repeating what NewOrder said. <.<

Also, many of those are "Brazilian" translations, right?

Interesting how some names were kept much the same.  I forgot the Russian alphabet has more letters then roman based ones like the European based languages like English, Spanish ect.

I think it's funny how the dutch names are all a bit different when it comes to characters.

I've given the names before, on page 2. Littlefoot is flatfoot, ducky would be translated with beaky. Fladder is some kind of flapping wings. I guess spike is well translated according to his dinosaurname, cera stays thesame.

I wouldn't have a clue of Ruby's name in dutch. I still think it's unfair.

Explorer, "Patola" is actually european portuguese, but most of them are brasilian translations. I've separated the portuguese and brazilian translations, I forgot "TricÛrnio", they also call them "Tr’s Chifres" which means Three horns.

Indeed cyrillic has 33 letters, however two of them are silent stops, which are hard to explain. Cyrillic is based on the greek alphabet instead of latin.

Okay, I think I'll try to revive this topic, since I've met new people on the forum, since I left. So I'm wondering, if there's some people who have different names, or words for the LBT universe. And ofcause, this should be people who haven't already been on the topic and tell, what the characters names are in their country.

Awesome Steven :)
Tell, the names of the characters, are they literally translated into Hungarian or do they have a different meaning if they were literally "re-translated" into English?

There are more hungarian translation mistakes in some episodes. For example in the Journey to Big Water, they used other names than in the previous episodes.

Cera was Szera instead of Kist¸lˆk
Littlefoot was Kicsil·b instead of Tappancs
Ducky was Buci instead of Kacsacsőr
Spike was Duci instead of T¸skÈs
and Petrie was Petri instead of Rˆpcsi.

You can imagine how annoying it was.

Another embarrassing thing, that in the second movie Cera has a voice of a boy in hungarian. That was nonsense.

 :rolleyes

Malte, I have edited my previous post so you can see the literally re-translated version of the names. :)

Aw, man, I'm so excited. Yesterday, I was getting bored of studying for finals, so I decided to look up the Land Before Time on Chinese websites. As it turns out, them have translated some of the movies into Chinese. I'm watching The Land of Mists in Chinese right now, and it's sweet! Here's the link. Subtitled for anyone trying to learn the language.

I also read up some Chinese movie sites. Despite the fact that not many people know about it, the people who do really love it. Most are oblivious to sequelious, and the people love it! Too bad the songs are still in English.

This brings me back to my original topic. How do people perceive LBT in your country? Just for lolz, what are the characters' names and titles in your language?

The Land Before Time- 小脚板走天涯
(if you translate this back literately, it means Littlefoot walks the world)

Littlefoot-小脚板
Ali- 艾利
Cera- 索拉
Ducky- 荙基
Petrie- 比芝
Spike- 史伯
