The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

big news

Well, if you like it.

My old addage is if you want a phone, buy a phone, if you want a DAP, buy a DAP, if you want a camera, buy a camera....screw the "all-in-one-do-it-all"....like an iphone....

It is cheaper to get everything in one device, of course if you have it in your pocket and you fall....well....there go all your devices. :p

I had the apple Iphone for a week or so before I took it back.  It was really unnecessary.  I really hated the fact that when I answered it, it hung up because my cheek would touch the screen.  It was a terrible phone, but it was excellent at everything else.  If I ever get an Iphone again, it won't have any service.  I'll use a regular cell phone for calls.  It was a really cool device and I wouldn't mind having it around instead of my pocket PC, but I just was expecting a lot more in the way of features when it came to the phone part.

Besides, buying Apple products isn't really the smartest thing to do unless you plan to replace them very soon.  Microsoft always comes out with a device that is 100 times better in a year or so.  They rely on Apple to supply the idea for a product, then they steal the idea and improve upon it.

In a year or so, Microsoft will come up with a phone 100 times better than Apple's Iphone and will provide it for half the price.  They always do this.  The only reason Apple is still alive and Microsoft doesn't crush them to death is the fact that they supply Microsoft with all of the major ideas for new products.  Microsoft needs them.  The only things Microsoft invents itself is new types of processors and chip sets for motherboards.  They steal almost everything else from Apple.

I know about Microsoft's dependency on Apple. I don't think that they will out-sell it anytime soon.

I'm not talking about selling out.  Microsoft is a vindictive company that will do anything to remove competitors.  I doubt they would do something as harmless and innocent as buying out Apple.

Apple is Microsoft's puppet.  They are by no means a competitor at all, although they are allowed to think they are because the more endangered they feel, the more new technology they'll produce.  It's microsoft's way of getting free ideas for products.  Apple is totally controlled by fear, although they believe they are in controll because Microsoft allows them to think that.  Microsoft could destroy Apple any time they wished, but they don't wish it because they are allies, although Apple doesn't know this.  It's a very tricky game Microsoft has been playing since day 1 of computers.  It was Apple who invented the first computer.  It was Apple that invented the first internal hard disk.  They invented the first floppy drives, the first CD drives, the first flash disks, and the first portable media players that didn't use flash memory.

Microsoft is a horrible and evil company.  Windows product activation is absurd.  Piracy is just an excuse so they can make you pay freaking hundreds of dollars per operating system.  I've always thought of Microsoft as the devil, however my opinion of them has gotten even worse since the release of vista.  All vista is is a pretty version of xp with programs produced by Microsoft's vain attempt to prevent the piracy of windows xp.  I wish I could cut microbutt out of my life for good, but they've got me.  I can't go to linux.  There's nothing I can do but be a hostage to them.... :( All my programs are only compatible with windows and there are no substitute programs for some of them.  Besides, the majority of the world is windows based.

Sure, I feel like a discussion.

I actually *completely* disagree with this.  Apple is a natural thinker, designing computers *for people* as opposed to *for making disgusting amounts of money*.  Sure Apple wants to make money but they don't have the support of the public.  People are still in love with Microsoft because of history.

Apple has come so far in the last, probably 5 years or so.  Their latest operating systems have a huge variety of software.  With the Intel chips, users are able to dual-boot to Windows and get access to their Windows-exclusive apps if necessary.  In many cases though, there are similar apps on both Windows and Mac machines.

Let me ask you a question:
What is it that you want to do on your computer that you can't do on a Mac?  Honestly, not much comes to mind for me.  If I had the money, I'd get a mac for audio work.  I just don't have $6000+ for a top-end system. :p

Apple? Not a competitor? That's not what I've been taught growing up. And I don't consider Microsoft to be evil.

I agree with action on this one. Apple produces some ingenious products, like the iPhone. They also created iTunes, and I don't see a Microsoft copy of it. Although I do have to agree with you on the comment that Microsoft is an horrible company. That much is true.

By the way, action, I'm abstaining from the Philosopher award.

I know several people who work at microsoft and according to them, Microsoft doesn't consider Apple to be an enemy or a competitor at all.

Microsoft could care less about Apple's Itunes software.  It's junk compared to windows media player in Microsoft's eyes (which I perfectly agree with).  Did you notice that soon after Apple made the little bar at the bottom of the screen of OSX with widgets and crap, Microsoft copied them right away and created even a better sidebar?

I actually don't like either program, myself.  3rd party! :D

Vista takes the pretty design of the Mac, throws in the troubles (aka. Microsoft trademarks) of Windows and calls itself an operating system. :p

Do most consumers need Windows?  THe answer anymore is no, not really.  A Mac, or even Linux, can do the average internet/e-mail user just fine.  Linux suffers with the higher-end apps for multimedia but that's where Mac shines.  Windows PCs are really for enthusiasts, gamers and offices. Vista is trying to present Windows to be a nice consumer OS but it's just clunky.

Speaking of Vista, had to use it on a friend's machine yesterday to burn a dvd of photos (about 4gb worth) and the only thing that would do it in a short amount of time was Media Center.  The dvd burner built into Windows Explorer would take hours to do the same tasks. :o
