The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Spam sent from my account

Hi!
It appears that some of us have caught a virus which causes our computers to send spam when we are on MSN. I received commercials for cell phone ringing tones from pokeplayer which he did not sent. Meanwhile Kacie told me that she and several more of you have received spam from me.
Be assured that I do not send any of such rubbish intentionally. Right now the virus scan is running and I do hope that it will find whatever caused the sending of the junk.

I hope the problem gets resolved soon. I wonder how people are catching this virus or worm, or whatever it is.

Hope you can find the problem.  Maybe Landbeforetimelover can help if the virus scan does not.  Though there are some free online virus scan places you can try too.

DON'T open any of the urls sent from my address unless you are absolutely certain they come really from me. I suppose it was such an url that got my computer infected.

Guess I've been lucky to receive nothing.  Did your virus / adware / malware scans turn up anything?

Well, I haven't gotten anything.  Perhaps I've been talking to the wrong people.

The virus scan didn't find anything, but I don't really think it was a virus anyway. For I must confess an act of extreme stupidity here :bang
When I had received those urls via MSN I opened one of them and was asked to log in. I wasn't thinking much about it and took it to be a security measure from MSN or something. I only came to realize that this was a rather uncommon procedure when I saw that the url was an advertisement.
I think that it was a case of fishing but that no virus or the like was actually installed on my computer. Meanwhile I have changed my MSN password and hope that it will stop the sending of any further spam. Please tell me right away if any of you receives any further spam from my account.

Exactly what's happened to my veeery old account. I can say it's not a virus...

But most of the time the 'hackers' so to call them quit after a month of spamming others.

(I know that because people dont ask me about it anymore, and because some girl quitted sending too.. And I didn't receive it from John for some time either.)

Well, I'm going to be changing my MSN account.  I don't know what's going on with this little problem of mine, but I'm putting a stop to it. -_-

This sort of crap happens all the time.  It's easy access to many people, especially if you hit the right person.  The pop ups you got were not legally sent to you and you should report the company responsible.  It is NOT legal to send pop ups through malicious software that's probably been programmed by inexperienced hackers. Probably some idiot from some out of the way town across the globe thinking he's untouchable.  You should fry his a$$.  That's what I'd do. :yes
