I've never been teased because of my love for LBT.
Atleast not in a way that would have made me feel sad or embarresed.

The first person to react in a... "wierd way?" about my LBT fandom, was one of my more hot-road friends.
When he saw some of my LBT stuff, he said something like this;

"Hey, isn't that Littlefoot?"

When I explained why to him, he made a laugh and said:

"That's good for the girls"

Whatever he meant by that.
Do well. Live well. And dress very well.

Well, I have heard similar things on this topic before when I've met some people in person. If there is a comparison between his comment and others comments I've heard outside of this haven, I should be able to interpret. I know people who find The Land Before Time to be "sentimental mushy stuff". And then we have the extremely biased belief that I personally do not support in any way: "girls are so into all that emotional stuff." I know some girls like emotional entertainment, but not girls in general. Therefore, the completely irrational "logic" that some people spout by combining these two unprecidented theories, is that if girls are into something, say, The land Before Time, and a guy is into the same thing and makes it clear to them that he is, or simply pretends to like it, he could be more of a "chick magnet." Ugh. Even though I am merely repeating what others have expressed and not speaking my own thoughts, filling one of my posts with such garbage is making me sick already. If that is not what he meant, my apologies for wasting your time. But since several others actually believe this type of thing, my response could help you in understanding your situation.

The actual question is not applicable to me really.  I'm here mainly to irritate Aves and provide lulz.   Before I did those reviews I'd only ever seen the original many many years ago.

However obsessions with things of this nature all share from the common thread.   Anything someone likes that "unconventional" is going to be looked at oddly.   It's less in how they treat you and more in how you react to them.   Personally I've had people ask me this question before and I always tell them that I do not.  Why?   Well I hate to say people fear me but most people I interact with are at work.   Would you mouth off to your system admin?   Especially when his email address contains the acronym B.O.F.H.?

Fear aside even those that do get a reply ranging of me laughing at myself to caustic sarcasm.  I firmly believe that if you want to learn to be a happy person you MUST learn to laugh at yourself.

I'll give an example, a few years ago a friend of mine wanted to mess with me and had his boyfriend draw a rather compromising picture of one of my flagship characters and him.  This was to rag on how he got me to give him moderator rights on another board I helped run.  Now different people would react to this in different ways.  A bigot would take offense and throw a fit about how disgusting furry porn is or that gays are immoral and should burn in hell.   The opposite pole would not say anything and quietly make with the fappingz.    Myself however, renamed the picture modrights.jpg, let the forum in on the joke, and turned it into a running gag to the point that mention of the word modrights either induces lulz or groanz.

This is how I handle anything of this nature.  My own skirting on the outskirts of the furry fandom is always a source of lulz and a great way to break the ice with people.   The worst thing you can do when you like something strange is try to force someone to accept it as not strange.   This board?  You are going to take crap over it, you should.   Come on people you have a thread devoted to discussing which anatomically incorrect underage dino is the "Most Attractive".    If you get called out on that, what do you do?

If you said, "Explain to them they are reading something into it blahblahblahblah."
You get an F.

If you said, "Ignore them."
You get a C.  But still Fail.

If you said, "Tell them I couldn't read it because it was too %$#%ing weird."
You get a B+!

If you said, "Gauge their reaction based on what they say and reply in kind."
You just aced yourself the interwebz!

The first part of getting someone to accept you is accepting the level of weirdness of the things you do.

Can't say I've been teased about LBT.  My sister did want to know why I had a DVD of Franklin, but I had bought that for my special ed students, before I landed the job I have now.  They're a tad bit old for Franklin, but I still have the dvd all the same. :p

I'm sorry.  I should have titled that topic differently.  Never mind.  Such a topic would end up being perceived as sexual in nature by someone eventually.  That was NOT the intention I had in mind when I created that topic.  It was meant to discuss which of the Gang is the best looking and not to condone "fantasies" about them :anger!  If I'm taking this the wrong way, I apologize.  Could ya please further elaborate on the message behind that statement?  It pisses me off when someone takes something I say as sexual in nature or suggestive when it's most certainly not intended to be, and I just want to make it clear here that this is one example <_<.

I don't go around saying I love a show that's rated for 6 years old, especially since I'm 16. xP
I'd tell it only to someone I REALLY trust.
I have a feeling it won't be a good idea telling that to everyone...

Yeah I've been teased about my passion for LBT but then again, my response to that has always been "So what?". There are a lot worse things to be into out there so I can't see why my adoration for a childhood relative animation can be classed as a bad thing. Most of my friends and family know I love animation (LBT in particular) down to the point my elder sister got me a plushie Cera for one of my birthdays (how sad is that?...I was turning like 20-odd and I'm getting soft toys  :lol ). I know most guys and gals my age are well past what they liked viewing as a kid, but I say they're some of the best days of your life (80s baby and proud of it! :DD ).

Hey, don't sweat it.  I'm 22 years old and still go to Toys R Us to find LBT toys and collect any threehorn toys :p  :lol.  Hehe, this reminds me of the first time I ever went to purchase an LBT DVD by myself (my mother always got them when I was growing up), I went to Wal-Mart at midnight to get the DVD (I believe it was the first DVD containing TV series episodes, "Amazing Adventures").  When I saw it was not out on shelves yet, I asked the employee responsible for stocking the new releases about it.  She looked at me weird as she searched for it and I said, "Yeah, the little ones are sleepin' and I wanna surprise 'em in the mornin'.  Ya know how kids are.  They're awfully impatient."  Needless to say, the employee actually sympathized with me and stopped the weird looks :lol.  What's funny is I have no kids and the only way that would ever happen would be via immaculate conception as I've never messed around :p.  It was still funny, though.  Since then, I've been up-front and do not mention about kids :lol.  Yeah, sometimes ya need to use discretion as to whom ya confide your love of LBT with.  However, if someone despises me for it, then they were never a true friend to begin with <_<.

Have you ever been teased about LBT before?
I generally keep my obsession with the movies a secret, but there was once when I asked my best friend if he had seen the movie, and he said:
"Its stupid. How could a bunch of young Dinosaurs outrun and outwit a T-rex?"
I do like the fact that it's the ability to survive, not the ability to talk that drew questions XD

I don't really get teased about it. Don't worry guys I am 26 fricken years old and I still love LBT but I kinda keep my how do I put this? My love for LBT on the "Down Low" I don't really tell anyone about my love for animation at all. Not even my own parents know about it. There was a time that I was out to the mall with friends where I picked up a LBT sequel and they found out. They thought it was kind of strange but me buying the sequel leaded them to talk about how much hey loved the first one.

Yes, some have teased me, some haven't, and some think I'm weird. The ones who do tease me I just ignore, since they don't understand the true beauty of LBT.
Seriously though, there should be no reason to hide it. It's just another thing that makes up who we are. Even though we may be different from others, people should still respect our differences. It's quite sad when someone calls you "gay" or "retarded" for liking a children's cartoon.

This is perfect! I can give a fresh example here. Then again, I don't know if this would be called "teasing" or something a bit more... Ah well, maybe someone could tell me. About ten minutes ago, my mother knew I was writng about LBT and so she had a few things to let me know. Or course, she is almost always angry about something, so this is what I typically go through every day. She just told me a few things about this passion of mine, or perhaps "yelled' is a better word.

A 21 year old writing about little dinosaurs is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. Stop being a little child living in a different world and get a life. No mother could be proud of her son spending his free time working on stuff like that. It doesn't benefit you in any way. Any other parent would have sent you to an asylum by now.

Of course, by this point, I was already walking away. It's no way different than how she always talks to me, so I'm used to it.

So, did I put this in the wrong thread? Would this be teasing or something else? Nobody I have ever met speaks to me about LBT like my mother does. Consider yourself lucky if your friends say things like this. I actually live with me mother. Later.

Err well even Jasmijn wouldn't say my parents would've put me in an asylum because of it. That's kinda sick.

Either way, I'm not sure how you live your life. Maybe your mom wants you to get out more and act like a 21 year old 'should' (or something like that). She just blames LBT for still making your feel young and she feels bad for you since she thinks you're stuck somewhere with maturing?

It did sound like that anyway. Ya think you can talk about it with her? I know I have trouble talking to either of my parents that's why I accept the answer 'no', but hearing a parent saying that isn't what it's supposed to be.

I know you're pretty smart, so maybe you already talked to her.

I'm shaking with anger now that I've read this, so I'll try to not make typos.  This is wrong on so many levels, but I'm not about to go there as I might have an aneurysm.  You're twenty-one years old.  Almost my age.  You've gotta do something about your situation.  Something similar happened to me at that age, and upon hearing crap like that, I finally got the nerve to take action.  My family had not liked my love of LBT, and I had decided they had given me hell for the last time.  The next day, I went out looking at apartment rates.  When they asked me where I had been, I told them that I am gonna live my life how I wish, that nobody is gonna stop me or make me miserable, and that if I had to take up a second full-time job and take out student loans to pay for school from that point on, then I would do that rather than deal with their negativity toward something I'm into that is not hurting anyone.  Fortunately, they came to the realization that my love of LBT will never die nor be taken away from me.  Yeah, the cost of living around here is considerably high, but I've always been a fighter and believe in standing up for myself and what I believe in.

Now, I am not encouraging anyone to break up families here.  It's a good thing to be on your own and live your life while being close to your family at the same time.  I definitely look forward to finishing school and making more money.  What I'm saying, TheFriendlySharptooth, is that change needs to be made, and not on your part.  You've done nothing wrong, and LBT does not have a trace of evil.  It's not like you're shooting heroine and all that jazz.  It seems to be time to have a heart-to-heart with your mother.  Tell her your feelings, that the way she talks to ya hurts, that you're not gonna stand for being talked to in that fashion for no rhyme or reason anymore, and suggest that she get into anger management.  That's how I would handle it.  Try to approach her in your normal good-natured fashion.  Kill 'em with kindness, or so they say.  I'm certain that, if she knows you're not gonna stand for being treated in that fashion any longer, she'll feel her relationship with her son is threatened and will try to change.  Believe it or not, the way she is currently acting IS threatening her relationship with ya.  Unless you've really done something to piss her off, there is no justification for her behavior.  Good luck and take care now.

Here's something you can try to tease them about when they tease you about LBT:

Anything sport or video game related.

Think about it for a second.  They are teasing us about watching a movie for kids.  They think that, since we are grown up, that it's wrong to be a kid in ANY way.

However, anything sport related, that being basketball, football, soccer or what not, involves playing with TOYS.  Isn't that something kids play with?  Balls are toys. (I'm sure I got quite a few there.) A stick is only turned into a play thing by a kid, who sees it as a toy. (Whoops!  There goes hockey, baseball and a few others.) Bicycling is easily killed by the fact that kids ride bikes too. (Note that in the REAL world, tricycles count as bikes. (Why do you think they classify tricycles as bikes in a store?))

Video games are toys.  It's a proven fact.

Yes, video game lovers out there, PS3, XBox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and every freaking game console and handheld before it are TOYS.  Do a bunch of freaking research if you don't believe me.

Seriously, get them with these and you'll kill their teasing easily. :D

Aww, don't spread the hate. I've been teased. Some people are just going to tease you, no matter what it is you like. Personally I wear my love of LBT on my sleeve, and use it as something of a judge of character. If someone makes fun of me for it in a hateful way, I make the decision that that person isn't worth my time :)

As for parents... Wow. That's horrible, I can barely imagine being ostracized like that by your own family. :(
I really hope everything goes well for you. It really saddens me to hear about that.

You forgot about PC. It can be used as a toy too. :p Of course since you can do many things with it, using computer only to play would be like wasting a money.

To end offtopic: Well... My family doesnt know that I like LBT (yet :D), but they know about my other subjects of interest. For instance, when in TV is running some movie with the dragons (I am not so much of a fan of them as I used to be) my parents ussually call me down. So, I can tell that I am not teased. ;)

I just read this and the only thing I'm feeling right now is a mix of shock and empathy. I mean, holy balls, dude! Send you to an asylum? LBT is hardly a form of insanity, and hell, even people who should be in an asylum don't get to go! Besides, it's your free time.

On the other hand, I kinda got the same reaction from my dad when he found out. I brought up something he liked a lot and asked him why he liked it, and when he couldn't come up with an answer, I said,"See? I don't know why I like it. I just do." And we're still cool, even though it hasn't come up since. I'm not sure if that approach works on others, but it's worth a try.
