The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

"Wouldn't bother me all that much. Good luck," Shelton gave a thumbs up, and then opened his flashlight-radio and began informing Hans of the situation.

" 'Lo, Hans. To make a long story short, we've been forced to evacuate the control room. Werner's with us, and he seems to be in one piece, but James is sending a squad in to rescue Dr. Kerzach and possibly Kagetora. I'm in an adjacent laboratory with your son."

"Well, don't start pouring the champagne 'till James gets back with Kerzach," said Shelton, peering down the hallway.

James's squad eventually reached the control room. They carefully skirted around the duelists and found Montgomery and Hicks. Zachary, the Iguana and Vic were hidden behind some rubble.

James confronted Hicks.

"Hello Hicks." James said. "Care to explain what you want with Dr. Kerzach?"

"He's our key to seizing command of this base!" Hicks said.

"You wish. Now let him go."

"There's 2 of us and one of you!" Montgomery spat.

"Oh yeah?" James countered.

At his words, the Iguana and Zachary leapt from the rubble pile and aimed their weapons at the two scientists. "Let Kerzach go or die in a hail of gunfire." Zachary said. He fired some rounds into the wall near them.

Montgomery and Hicks looked at each other.

"Monty, maybe we should give them Kerzach?" Hicks said.

"Hicks, are you nuts, we'll lose the..." Montgomery suddenly smiled. "I have an idea."

Hicks released Dr. Kerzach.  "Here, take your ugly bird!" Hicks then shoved Dr. Kerzach towards Zachary who quickly broke the rope binding him.

"The knife too!" James demanded. Montgomery slid the switchblade towards Dr. Kerzach who pocketed it.

"Okay, let's deal with Murakami!" James said, "Yuri, stay behind us when we deal with these two."

James and his group confronted Murakami.

Zachary leveled his M-16 at Murakami. "Murakami, there is no way to win. If you kill Kagetora; you will die in a hail of gunfire. Just make things painless and surrender."

The Iguana guard escorted Dr. Kerzach to the lab where Shelton and Werner were located.

"Dr. Shelton, we have rescued Dr. Kerzach. James and Zachary are currently confronting Murakami, the ninja who is trying to kill Kagetora." the guard said.

Dr. Kerzach sat in chair. "Man, is there a computer here I can use?"

-----

Meanwhile in the cafeteria, O'Neill was arguing with a Cobalt Squad soldier. "Look, I'm willing to help."

"How stupid do you think I am? You tried to kill Zanasiu!" the soldier shot back.

"That was mostly Hicks's idea!"

"Forget it, to use one of Dr. Zanasiu's favorite expressions, 'I'll trust you when there are two electrons with the same spin occupy the same atomic orbital'. I don't even know what the hell that means but I think it means he doesn't trust you."

Something we can agree on, Dr. Joe thought as she sat...

----------

Vic joined in the removal of Dr. Kerzach and met where Werner and Shelton waited.  He kept by the doorway, keeping an eye out for anymore gun-wielding lunatics coming down the halls...

Deep in the Dragonstorm labs, the Deer scientist was arguing with a Golden Retriever scientist.

"We need to send more out, Montgomery, Hicks, Kozlov, Struth, O'Neill they're all dead or captured and we still haven't gotten that disc that Dr. Zanasiu found." the Deer said.

"Look, we can't sacrifice anymore of the scientists here. We've already emptied out the equivalent of a large lab just to guard the entrance." the Golden Retriever countered.

------

Hicks reached inside his lab coat and retrieved a radio.

Making sure no one could see him, he spoke: "Pergama, this is Laocoon. Gorgythion and I are in Tenedos. We have two Greeks in Tenedos."

-----

In the Dragonstorm labs, the Deer's radio beeped. He listened to the transmission. "Hmm. It seems, that Hicks and Montgomery are at the control room. But there's two unknown persons."

He then spoke into the radio, "Laocoon, Gorgythion, this is Calchas, ensure the serpents don't enter Tenedos."

-----

Syberis entered the control room with a computer and a charger and handed them to Dr. Kerzach.

"Thanks. Now I can get back to work. Shelton, what shall I do next?" Dr. Kerzach said as connected the computer to the outlet and booted it up.

"Hack back into the sensor readings, so we can tell where people in the base are. I can give you my administrative password if you find you need it," said Shelton. "Also, check on the status of auxiliary control. If we don't get our control room back, that might be the place we'll have to get to next."

The experiment listened to the rabble between the scientists outside, sitting idly near the corner of its room.  If it have had lips, it would've been grinning...

----------

Vic kept watch while the computer experts plan out what to do next.  "I'll be surprised if there's anything left in that room since almost everything was shot out."

Dr. Kerzach tried to get into the sensor readings only to be blocked by a password. "Gah! Shelton, I'll need your password, the USB stick I used before is in the old control room."

"Username's 'rshelton', like normal, and the password is "killapp123" Shelton told Kerzach.

As Kerzach typed, Shelton listened to Vic. "You'd be surprised. Not counting the durable casings around the consoles, the circuitry goes deep into the floor, with the most critical systems protected by the lesser so. Also, it gets the best reception in Nevada just from its longitudinal position. At auxiliary control, it'll take twice as long for commands to get executed by the surviving systems, especially with all the rerouting we'll have to do to get it to where we want it to go."

(OOC - do we need StarfallRaptor to post to continue moving the story along?)

Dr. Kerzach typed in the password. "Okay I'm in."

He then opened the base sensor control panel.

"Shelton, the aux control room is uncompromised. However, sensors near the fusion reactor indicate some kind of activity. And it appears to be hostile. Also, sensors in the sublevels indicate that Lockdown and 2 other sublevel experiments are missing. Sensors also indicate activity in the hanger."

(OOC: I guess so, unless he passes off control of his characters. Or we can ditch them and abandon the control room altogether. Now might be a good time for your power out.)

"The hangar is the terrorist HQ," said Shelton. "Remember the audio we picked up? And Lockdown is probably with the group molesting the fusion reactor."

"What makes you say that?"

"If the commander already had Lockdown in the hangar, there'd probably be bad stuff happening right now."

"I'll see if I can..." before Dr. Kerzach could say anything the lights in the room died.

"Damn it! They must have cut the power." Dr. Kerzach said

"I hope James and Zachary can see fine." the Dhole said.

"What about you?"

"I'm fine, I have natural night vision. The emergency lights are good enough for me.

---------

James and Zachary were confronting Murakami when the power was cut.

"Great." Zachary said. He pulled out his radio. "Shelton, should we make our way to the temporary HQ or stay here?"

As the lights went out, Vic grabbed a pair of infared glasses and placed them on.  "I still got visual of the halls," he said.  "This entire section may have been taken out.  Could this be because of the fusion reactor?"

----------

Dr. Joe looked up as the lights in the cafeteria went out.  "Now what..."

Snow held close to Neku.  "What happened?"

----------

The experiment was aware of the power out as the glimmer of light through the door dimmed, but was unphased as his vision immediately adjusted to the blackness...

Shelton clicked on his radio-flashlight. "We might have to check it out," he said. "The base has emergency power, but the cables might've been cut. And yeah, if they messed with the reactor, it could easily have overloaded and shut down, but it should have taken another minute or two for the lights and other facilities to drain the power already generated."

Shelton opened his radio. "James, Zachary, get out of there. It's hard enough to fight a ninja when you can see him!"

James and Zachary immediately left the room, using the emergency lights. They made their way to the lab just before the lights died.

Dr. Kerzach groped around for flashlight. He found one and turned it on.

"Zach, James you and I should see if we can restart the fusion reactor." the Dhole said. She had attached a small flashlight that she found to her rifle.

"Shelton, once we get into the reactor silo, we'll need you to walk us through the steps on how to restart it." James said.

Shelton nodded. "While you do that, I think the rest of us should head for auxiliary control. Despite what I just told Vic, even I'm not sure if the control room can survive all the damage it's taken. Besides, Werner should be kept as far from the enemy as possible, and right now three of them are just a hallway away."

"We'll need a stretcher of some kind," said Syberis. He pointed his claws at a lab table, and the legs bent sideways, forming the table into an H. Lifting Werner onto the tabletop in the middle, he and the Iguana guard held up the legs on the opposite sides like handles. Syberis looked at Shelton. "We'll follow you."

Shelton looked at Vic. "You're call. You want to come with James or us?"

"I'll stick with you and provide cover," Vic replied.  "You'll need an extra shooter to keep you alive to the auxiliary control room."

----------

Snow held out her arm sideways and a bright blue ball of flame emerged around her paw, illuminating the cafeteria...

"Awesome, we'll need the help," said Shelton. He looked in the direction of a door on the far wall. "We'll be heading that way, my team." He looked at James. "Good luck, mate."

James nodded. "Thank you."

The Dhole shone her flashlight on a map on the wall. "It looks like the fusion reactor is in the basement. We won't need to go to the sublevels but it's still dangerous as it is possible that terrorists are using the darkness to their advantage."

---------

O'Neill took advantage of the darkness to stumble to the back of the cafeteria and enter the Dragonstorm labs.

"O'Niell, so you're back?" the Deer said.

"Yep! The power's out so they'll have a bit of a hard time finding us out but we're stuck too." O'Niell replied.
