The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Free, legal photoediting software

Are there any photo editing programs that I can download for free (legally)?

I need them to work on a web design project

By the way, I'm most used to Macromedia Fireworks.

If not, I'll use the 30 day Fireworks trial.

What kind of Photo editing program is it that you are looking for?
Something among the lines of Photoshop or less?
For creating webdesign interactive objects?

Photoshop might be too complex.

Fireworks is like a Photoshop light.

I've tried Paint.NET but it's not working right.

I also need it to create a banner for my forum.

As for what I need it for in the web design project, I need it to create navigation buttons.

Hmm... I don't think I'll be able to help you, as I know nothing of those programs and I use Photoshop for all these purposes.
Wait for the others to answer, they might know more about other software that I do. But I strongly advise Photoshop anyhow. If you can get a version legally somewhere, you should definitely give it a try! I've made these things you mentioned there and they look brilliant! :)

Best of luck in any case!

I've used GIMP image editor.  Wonderful little app and it's comparable to Photoshop CS2.  I think it only works with linux though and I really need most of the features in CS3 extended so I just stick to the original.

I think GIMP works on Windows aswell. I remember trying it not so long ago.
I can't recall what I used it for though.
