The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

TPAM has no name. :p
Pessimist sees a dark tunnel. Optimist sees a light in the tunnel. Realist sees the light of coming train. And a driver sees three idiots standing on the track.

TPAM's avatar has a cross between the letter "P" and an asterisk.

TPAM should know that the symbol above me is a Chi-Rho: the first two letters in "Christ" in the Greek alphabet, originally spelled: Χριστός.

Chi:   Χχ

Rho: Ρρ

I see it just about every Sunday... I wanted something a bit less obvious than a cross or crucifix.

No, TPAM should know that a Chi-Rho is a common Christian symbol; no knowledge of Greek is needed, really.

TPAM is Christian.

TPAM looked at TPATPAM's profile to get that statistic.

TPAM knows that I would have no other way of doing that, unless I asked TPATPM that in a PM, but that would be a waste of time, to trouble someone for a piece of information that I am perfectly capable of seeing for myself.

I guess TPAM would resent any comments from other people saying that most, if not all, of the Christian symbols and holidays came from pagan beliefs.

TPAM should know that that is mostly not true; that is an idea held mostly by revisionists and radicals. Most symbols were made themselves, and only a handful were repurposed from pre-existing beliefs. The Ichthys, the Triquetra and a couple of barely-used symbols (the phoenix, the tree of life, etc) come from either pagan or Jewish traditions, but the cross, crucifix, icons, the lamb, the alpha and omega, the "IHS", and the "keys" are originally Christian.

As for the Chi-Rho, it was used to mark important passages in pagan texts, but it was an essentially secular symbol until Christians repurposed it. As for the Chalice... it is Christian, but Wiccas and Neo-Pagans are trying to re-purpose IT, mostly without success.

There is a whole site full of Christian symbolism, and most of the symbols there are either original to Christianity, or are from Judaism. It even says which ones are pagan, and there are not that many. Take a look: http://home.att.net/~wegast/symbols/symbolsc/symbolsc.html

It could be because I studied Paganism more then Christianity, but I don't know, I'm a bit skeptical about what you are saying TPAM. I consider myself a Christian, but yeah...
