The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Thank you for saying that. :)

Not sure if anyone remembers this post, in which I discussed my experiences with rollercoasters, but it's in need of an update, because this past Friday (on the last day of my trip to Florida), I took the first big rollercoaster ride of my life on the Manta at Seaworld. The only other rollercoaster I'd ever been on, as I remember it, was very small, with only one slope to it that could even be called steep. This one, on the other hand, had the works: it was over half a mile long, went up to 140 feet above the ground, had loop-de-loops, vertical drops, twists, and low-level swoops, and it was a flying rollercoaster, with seats beneath the cars that lifted up so that you were suspended facing the ground during the ride. I was definitely a little concerned that I was biting off more than I could chew with this ride, but I decided to follow the MythBusters' motto (“If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing”), and rode in the very front. :p

Surprisingly enough, I actually found the ride rather relaxing. :lol I made some “alarmed Curly”-esque sounds during the ride (“nyah-ah-ah-ah!” and “woo-woo-woo!”), :lol but truthfully I can't say I felt scared (Sometimes I worry that my capacity to feel emotion is deteriorating ). I didn't feel sick at any point either (which had been a major concern of mine, as I had eaten a very large breakfast less than an hour earlier). In fact, I was rather disappointed at how quickly the ride ended, and would have gone on it again were it not for the line and the limited amount of time we had to spend at the park.

There were a number of factors that influenced me to ride the Manta. One was that I wanted to try out a real rollercoaster. Another was that it was free. :P: Even more significant was the fact that the ride (and the design of its frontmost car) are based on a manta ray (I've had an obsession with rays lately :smile). Plus, one of the gift stores sold a lot of Manta-themed keychains that I liked, but it didn't feel right to buy them when I hadn't even been on the ride. :p Afterwards I bought three of them, plus a Manta souvenir coin (The first day I was at SeaWorld, I also got a little plush manta ray with the Manta logo on its wing :DD). I never thought I'd enjoy a rollercoaster so much. :!

^That exact same thing happened to me :p.  I was six the first time I went on a roller coaster, and man did it scare the crap outta me :crazy.  I never attempted another roller coaster until I was thirteen, and since then I can't get enough of them ;).  I understand it is common for Aspies to be adrenaline junkies, so my case and your case do not surprise me.  I've always been adventurous and thrill-seeking, so I guess my love of roller coasters was inevitable :DD.

Want a rush unlike anything else?  Try skydiving :smile.

^ The weird thing is, I didn't feel a noticeable adrenaline rush. Like I said, I just felt relaxed. :confused

It's not likely that I'll try skydiving, though. :p At least during the rollercoaster ride I was secure in the knowledge that accidents on rollercoasters are extremely rare; you're more likely to be caught in a car accident, if I recall the statistics correctly.

I think I've mentioned before that I periodically develop intense interests/obsessions in particular subjects (usually different kinds of animals). I just felt like posting a list of such phases that I have gone through this year:

ï Echinoderms (especially sea stars)

ï Ravens

ï Bears

ï Stingrays

ï Bowerbirds (this is sort of a “mini-obsession”; it's a very recent development, and it's not quite as consuming as most of the other entries on this list, but it's still pretty strong)

ï Platypuses (another one that's just started recently)

ï Struthiomimus with hats, pickle jars, or other objects on their heads. :p (For some reason I find this image hilarious. :lol)

EDIT: I know there's more, but I can't remember all of them right now. :oops

The easiest way to REALLY piss me off is ignore my efforts at doing something or when my super-hard effort yields little to nothing.

More often than not when I engage in a prolonged conversation with someone, the topic gradually changes until we are talking about something completely different from the original subject. (I call it “conversational drift”. :p) An example of this occurred a few days ago: a comment from my brother that I looked like an alien (I was holding my hands in front of my mouth like tentacles :P:) led to a conversation about the flexibility and potential display significance of the tails of dromaeosaurs (raptor dinosaurs), which shifted to a speculative discussion of plausible real-life organisms that could be the basis for certain mythological creatures, and ended with us pondering the evolutionary origins and biochemistry of platypus venom. :lol

I tend to use passive construction in writing "academic essays".

I have rather large, jagged-crowned teeth. I try to avoid showing them when I smile, because when I do, my grin comes off (in my opinion) as psychotic, maniacal, or downright frightening.

Like pretty much everyone, I am a very messed up person underneath the hard shell I maintain on a daily basis.

The mixture of intelligence and wisdom within me is a volatile concoction that produces random ideas with such frequency that I maintain a mental library of all my ideas both old and new to keep track of them but sometimes even that is not enough and i have to use paper sources.  Possibly the most well known of these ideas are Rise of Storm Tide, Far Away Home, and LBT: Future Wars but there are other ones that are pretty cool too but seperate from the LBT universe.

Others, like the less well known certain 'Ruby story' I did, are alive but undeveloped at the moment awaiting a burst of inspiration to come to life (I recently had the idea of having Ruby's Killer alter-ego working with the Great Valley Dinosaurs to repel a Sharptooth Invasion, since when there are multiple evils running around its always cool to see one side with the good guys).
