The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

"I guess he's the leader of the guild" Kayla spoke up first as she looked at the Dracon on the throne.

"Uh, excuse me, we're trying to find one called Aerta, do you know where we might find her?" Farstriker decided to ask the Dracon, using speach of course.

Ku'ux folded his arms as he looked at the Dracon as well, however, he was only thinking to himself "This better not be a waste of time...this Dracon better help us find the girl...."

<I know of who you seek, but even I do not know exactly where she is. We cannot find her because she is not on the Astral Plane right now. The best we can do is to leave her a message there and hope that she finds it. Unless she expects to find a message, the odds of her actually receiving it are quite low.>

"Can't you just wait around on the astral plane, or get someone else to do it? I'm sure she projects her spirit there quite often." Vespion thought he knew about the planes, but, to his chagrin, the answer he received showed how very little he knew about psionic magic and astral projection.

<I have no doubt that she does, but you need to realize that the Astral plane is infinite in size, and the odds of anyone finding her without knowing where she is on the material plane are very, very low. Like trying to find a needle in an infinite haystack. We could have a million psionics search for her, and not find anything. I can send a message which can be found by anyone who is looking for it. I know the topic is hard to grasp, but... well... the astral plane is a dminesion that exists between all other realms of existence. Whenever someone teleports, they physically pass through the Astral plane for a tiny fraction of a second. From any point in the plane, one can easily reach another point, and every point in the plane corresponds to a point in the material plane, or what you would call our world. The astral plane is highly mutable, given sufficient power. The lack of opposing forces makes it easy to embed one's will into the plane, enabling a mage to alter parts of it, or to embed a thought into the fabric of the dimension. Unfortunately, this change requires the recipient to be willing to receive it, as it will also be Aerta's will which alters the plane, or, rather, her will that enables the plane to alter for her. If she is expecting you to contact her using the aid of psionics, she should be willing to receive a message. I can tell that neither you nor I know what she would do. It is worth a shot, but you shouldn't get your hopes up.>

The grand psionic's "voice" reached everyone in the room, even though his projected thoughts made no sound.

"So, let me get this straight, we're pretty much searching for a needle in the haystack as one would say? Like taking a gamble on if she shall get the message or not....as it does seem like high stakes we're playing with right now" Farstriker spoke up after waiting for the grand psionic to finish.

Kayla looked over to Farstriker, so far, impressed with what he was saying as she then looked to Ku'ux who was just silent, well, all except for his breathing through his cow-like nostrils, which was a bit louder than a normal human being's breathing through their own nose, however, she wasn't sure on what to say herself, and for now, just kept to herself like Ku'ux did.

<I shall send a message anyway. Keep in mind that this is akin to putting a note in a bottle and throwing it out to sea, with the hopes that one particular person will find it. Making direct contact with her would only be possible if we knew where to look, and since not only do you not know where she is, but, from what I read from your mind, Adykon, she is in a palace with wards that would protect against any attempt to look in on her. Our odds only improve if she is looking for a message.>

"Alright. Fine. Send her this message. "Dear Aerta. This is Adykon. Please contact me as soon as you can. I am going to find you. Love, Adykon. Ulp! I mean... send it. Just send it." That last part was unintended. It just came out. Still, Aerta wouldn't mind hearing it, although the others might have heard it... yeah. They heard it alright.

<That was not the most... eloquent message ever written, but it serves its purpose.>

"Well, that's the message to send. How long will this take?"

<It's done. I sent the very words through the astral plane as you spoke. If Aerta finds it, she will hear everything.>

"... even that last part?"

<Yes. The spell works by sending a thought as one remembers it. Unless I could forget what you had said in an instant, there is no other way for me to->

"Fine. Just... let it go."

<I could not remove or call back the message if I had tried to. Such a spell is rarely used without knowing the recipient is expecting it.>

"So, I guess, for the time being anyway, we just wait? Or, do you have another plan in mind while we wait for a reply back?" Farstriker asked Adykon himself.

Ku'ux looked to Kayla, seeing that she too was quiet and not really talking as he spoke up to her "There is still time to turn back you know, as we haven't left the city as of yet"

Kayla looked up at Ku'ux, then back down to the ground "I know, but like I keep on saying, my mind's already made up" she told him before she then looked over to the grand psionic, still talking with Ku'ux "Besides, you guys really need whatever help you can get with fighting against the Dark Master"

Ku'ux thought for a moment before speaking "Yes, that is true, any help in fighting against Dememoras would be of use, just....try not to get yourself killed" he told her.

"Did my ears just decieve me, was that you showing some signs of caring?" Kayla joked to Ku'ux.

However, Ku'ux said nothing back on the matter as he heard Kayla sigh a little bit.

"It was just a little joke was all" Kayla told the minotaur with a smile upon her face as well.

The question of waiting was soon answered. It had not been a full two minutes before Adykon was contacted by Aerta. She had been waiting for him to go to the psionics' guild and send a message. Within a moment, she managed to send a message through the black stone of the guild, although even for an archmage of her power, it was a hard task, so her contact with Adykon was limited to a few snippets.

"A-kon. Go ou-si. Can cont- you... be...er." The words registered as sound to Adykon, but he knew that he hadn't actually heard anyone nearby him.

"Everyone, she's just contacted me. We should go outside the guild for a moment and she should be able to make clearer communication with me."

Farstiker nodded back to Adykon as she headed outside first.

Ku'ux looked to Kayla some more and motioned for her to follow him, for now, just talking to each other still "Heh, you humans have a strange way of joking about things"

"Yeah, well, I suppose that could be said about your kind, having different tastes in different jokes" Kayla replied back to Ku'ux as she walked with him as the two of them were heading outside as well.

"That was... very impressive... Not the message so much, but the fact we got very lucky in contacting her' Margas said. The knowledge that psonics was a lot more complicated than he had guessed... he had gained a new measure of respect for those who practiced it.
-
"so what is her message Adykon ' Minna said a little impatiently."Minna! she is taking a risk by contacting us... because Dememoras will likely be trying to catch her outside her palace.' Ilsa replied." Patience, please. Adykon will tell us when she has contacted him."

The adventuring party stepped outside of the psionic's guild and waited for Adykon to tell them what Aerta would tell him. Instead, they were amazed to find a shimmering, transparant image of a white-clad dracon female materialize in front of them!

"Love, Adykon, is it? I'm glad you care" Aerta told the rather surprised crowd. While she was not physically present, the image of the female archmage seemed to be standing next to them, representing her full height and appearance. Obviously, she was fake, given that her image was transparent, scentless, and intangible.

"Well, now, you have come to rescue me, I'd imagine? You probably want to know where I am, and you probably have some questions for me. Yes, this is me, Aerta. Adykon's mystery girl. I see that the roster is very different this time around. Kravik and Sivar are gone, and there are several newcomers."

Farstriker approached the image and waved a hand through it "Amazing, able to project an image like this....truth be told, I have not seen such a thing being used before"

Ku'ux folded his arms as he looked at the image "And here I thought that find your or contacting you would be more difficult than this....I had underestimated the abilities of a psionic"

Kayla was rather impressed herself, but yet, she decided to not say anything, incase she were to insult Adykon or Aerta by mistake in the process, something she didn't want to do.

"Aerta, so that;s your name? I remember you from the temple." Ilsa said, coming forward toward Aerta's image " You didn't give us your name at the time. I'm Ilsa,we're here to help you in any way we can; from what I hear, you lost your mate to Dememoras. That monster has tried to take Minbenthac by force, and well, nearly succeeded.I speak only for myself, but any help you can provide us would be greatly appreciated."
_ Marcus stepped forward. and bowed respectively to the image of Aerta. 'It is an honor to meet you. Are you of the nobility?' He asked.

"Not formally. My husband had managed to amass quite a bit of wealth from his services rendered to various kings, and I was relatively well-off for a female mage, hailing from a middle class household. Neither of us could be called nobles. Neither he nor I ever held any great assets or wealth outside of his palace. We have no vast fields, no mines, no slaves, no vast amount of money. The palace itself is only about average in size by the nobility's standards, and there isn't nearly as much decoration as there are magical items."

Aerta's description was not totally accurate. In truth, she did have a lot of golden jewelry, and her husband was as rich as many of the lower-ranking nobles. Now he was dead.

"I'm very sorry to hear that" Margas said. " I'm Margas, Ilsa's new husband. Its a pleasure to meet you. If I may ask a personal question, how did your husband die?" he paused looking closely at the image. Aerta was quite beautiful in appearance. Margas judged her to be roughly ten years older than he was, which would put her in her mid-30s, through that was still young by Dracon's reckoning. "Forgive me Aerta, if that was too personal. I understand completely if it was."

"Well... remember that debacle with Arcantas and that statue? My husband took it back to the lost city, but Dememoras blew him up. I believe Adykon already knows this, but you all deserve to know. I don't know what became of that stupid statue. My husband and I took it upon ourselves to watch that stupid thing, among our other self-appointed tasks. We wanted to make the Dracon lands a safer places; to keep hostile, foreign, ancient, and dangerous magics at bay, so that others wouldn't have to and so nobody would suffer."

Vespion was the one to speak this time, and he approached the image, careful not to accidentally step into it. "You haven't failed, Aerta. You can still join us, and we... oh. Well, once we free you, you can join us."

"Speaking of which, I do wonder what it is that you do need help with my dear" Farstriker spoke to Aerta next "As Adykon said that you were indeed, under seige from the enemy, I take it that things are bad?"

"It still doesn't help out much if we still do not know of the exact location of your city" Ku'ux added on as well in reply to Farstriker mainly.

"City? Oh, I'm not in a city. The palace is far, far away, in the countryside. I can tell you where I am, however. The palace is about 750 kilometers to the north of Minbenthac. The easiest way to get there is the head to the town of Vidri, which should be on most maps. From Vidri, head due east for another 15 kilometers, and you should see both the palace and the army of over 2,000 of Dememoras's troops blocking all access by land. I shall tell you more about entering the palace when you draw close. I wish you all good luck."

Aerta turned and was about to break the connection, but then she thought better of it. Turning back to the party, she asked "Does anyone else have any questions?"

"No, I myself have no other questions about it, more may come when the time draws closer, but for now, like I had just said, I have no other questions for you" Farstriker replied back.

"It seems like we have a long journey ahead of us then" Ku'ux spoke as he looked to Aerta, but yet, said nothing else.

Kayla did want to ask something, but she wasn't sure on what to actually ask her and decided to stay quiet still for the time being as she stayed beside Ku'ux still.

"Alright. I'll stay in touch. For now, I shall be in the palace. In fact, given that the defenses that keep the enemy out also serve to keep me in, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. Adykon, I can't wait to see you again, just... ah... hurry. I've got plenty of food and water, but sooner or later, the energies protecting the palace walls shall fail, and when that happens, I shall also... fall."

"Can't you just teleport out, Aerta?"

"I could, Adykon, but it would do me no good. The enemy also has teleportation-capable mages, and they can follow me anywhere I go. So, the sooner you can come to my aid, the better."

And with that, the shimmering image of Aerta vanished.

Eriol crossed his arms and made a small smile. - "Heh, every time we think we do have a path to follow to end this, a new road appears to make the whole thing more complicated. But I hope this time we'll get an answer so we can go find Aerta."

Eriol was calmed, but his mind still cannot remove the thoughts of the Mimic sent by Dememoras and how with every day that pass, the less chances he may get to find his wife's assassin, and to check on his son, who is waiting far away back in the gaean lands.

"Alright. We have to head north. It will be a long journey, but I'm sure we can make it. Next to the lost city, this isn't that far. Is everyone ready to go? If we leave now, we can make it there in a week, and back in just as much time. Vespion, can you make food and water for us?"

"Yes, Adykon, I can. It is not so hard a spell, and as long as we don't add too many more people to our group, we should have no difficulty with supplies. "
