"Typhon! Where did you come from?!" Adykon stunned by the sudden appearance of the son of Dememoras, but he was even more stunned to hear that Aerta knew who and what the winged Dracon was.
"Adykon, you KNOW this creature?! I sensed him lurking around, but, I didn't think he would show himself. You DO know who he is, right? The offspring of Dememoras?"
"Who I am is of less consequence than what is going to happen really soon! My father knows that you are here, Aerta, and he knows that I am here as well! He didn't want to get involved, but by choosing to reveal myself, it seems I forced his hand. I sensed an avatar of him approaching us! He'll be here in about-"
"RIGHT NOW!"
There was no mistaking the voice. While Typhon had a loud voice which could be mistaken for that of an adult dragon, Dememoras sounded like a volcano. This was a powerful avatar of him, though, not the actual being. As he had done before when he slew Vaeri, the dark master had sent a fraction of his essence, his very being, into the form of a creature known as an avatar. This being was as much a part of him as his hand or tail, despite it being physically detached from his body.
While it was nowhere near as dangerous as Dememoras was in person, it was a far more dangerous avatar than the one that killed Vaeri, at least 50% more powerful. Dememoras hadn't considered having to fight three opponents at once, however. Fortunately for him, he didn't have to.
"Adykon! Take Aerta and RUN!! This opponent is far beyond you!"
"You shall go nowhere!" As with Vaeri, a bolt of energy like a black streak of lightning, arced through the air, heading straight for Aerta. While she was not a helpless dancer as Vaeri had been, the archmage female would have found that there was more than enough power to kill her in that blast...
... if it had hit her.
Adykon, not wanting to repeat the tragedy of the not-too-distant past, shoved Aerta to the ground, placed himself over her body, and took the brunt of the blast! Had Adykon been wearing anything less than the finest armor the city of Minbenthac had to offer, he wouldn't have been able to stand after such a blow, let alone run. The armor he had worn at the start of the whole adventure wouldn't have even saved his life!
Dememoras's avatar didn't get to take another shot, as Typhon lunged at the beast, roaring loud enough to shake the energy crystal that Vaeri had been drawing power from. The two started to fight, each being roughly the same size and power level, much to the surprise of Dememoras.
Adykon pulled himself off of Aerta and lifted her up before he could even apologize to her for pushing her down, she jumped up and gave him a small kiss.
"That's for the save just now." Then, leaping into his arms again, she gave him a hug. "That's for coming to get me. Now, lets be off." Adykon had been hit by a bolt of magic, but Aerta knew he could still run. Adykon knew it to as he took off.
After leaving the walls of the palace, Aerta said a quick thanks to the gods that they had not yet run into any more soldiers. Adykon saw a large body of soldiers ahead, surrounding the party! He put Aerta down as soon as it was clear that she could fight, and the two of them prepared to engage the enemy.
