As she saw Petrie frown again, Kit tried to curb any argument...or worse that it already was type argument.

"Well...maybe we should look for a spot where you could settle down and not have to deal with seeing Longtail again if you guys are at such...odds", that was putting it mildly she knew.

"You know Longtail was smart enough to survive too" Petrie commented casually and seemingly to no one, but Kit saw the trouble her cousin knew he wasn't quite detouring. "Petrie!" she scolded a bit.

Greg carefully picked Longtail up and put him on Dil's back. "This should help," he hoped.

Meanwhile, Chomper and the other sharpteeth couldn't find any more survivors in the immediate area.

Longtail smiled as he felt himself being carefully lifted and placed on Dil's back. "Thank you everyone." He then looked to Pearl and said, "I think I heard Zaine a way back...p-please, go look for him...and bring him here."

Pearl immediately nodded her head, and quickly flapped away to retrieve Zaine.

Cyrix stepped forward and asked a very direct question: "When do we leave the valley? It is clear we cannot stay here much longer."

The female flyer sighed quietly and stayed silent for the rest of the flight not willing or wanting to hear Petrie's remarks about Longtail.

Petrie also had given up talking to the other flyer, so it was a very uncomfortable flight back.

As they landed near the Valley again, Kit turned to the female flyer, "Ok...now I can go in and tell Longtail you're here...by myself if you want so you don't have to see him" she offered.

The flier smiled almost sadistically as she said, "Oh no...you promised to take me to who was in charge and I'm going with you. With any luck Longtail will be injured and hurt."

Meanwhile, Ducky's group continued to search for survivors.

"Hey, guys! I found someone, yep yep yep!" Ducky spoke up as she came across aa arm with a clawed hand sticking out of some rubble. She could tell it belonged to a swimmer around her age. Ducky began to rapidly move rubble, mostly rocks, off of the swimmer as Renn, Spike, and Aurelia approached. Aurelia was the first to notice there was no movement from whoever was buried.

"Ducky, I think it's..."

"We have to move fast, yep yep yep," Ducky wheezed as she interrupted Aurelia. Aurelia was about to warn Ducky again, but it was too late. Ducky shrieked as she rushed away from the corpse and vomited in a violent fashion. Renn rushed over to comfort her. As Aurelia approached the corpse, she could see why Ducky had become sick. The corpse had been battered beyond recognition. The skull was smashed in, numerous bones had broken out of the skin, the corpse was unnaturally twisted at the torso, and the corpse was covered in blood.

"Ugh," Aurelia gagged as she looked away. She could handle blood and gore pretty well, but this was too much. She could not help but feel sympathy for whoever the victim was. Just then, an eerie thought crossed her mind.

"Spike," she called as he slowly came up next to her. "Is this...one of Ducky's blood relatives?" Spike came closer to the corpse, and sniffled several deep sniffs. He then took a couple of steps back. Aurelia could tell he was very upset. She sighed and lowered her head in sorrow.

"It's one of our sisters," Spike choked. "The youngest one."

"I'm so sorry," Aurelia whispered as she gently nuzzled Spike. "Would ya like me to tell Ducky, or would ya rather do it yourself?"

"I'll do it," Spike sobbed as he turned away and went over to Renn and Ducky. Aurelia could tell when Spike revealed the identity to Ducky, for she collapsed while shrieking and crying harshly. Renn held her and tried to calm her down. Aurelia began to cry herself. Seeing how much anguish Ducky was in was more painful than anything she had ever seen. She then headed over to them.

"Would ya like to pay your last respects before she's buried, or would ya rather she be buried first?" Aurelia asked. Ducky looked tearfully up at Aurelia.

"Please...bury her first," Ducky sobbed harshly. Aurelia lowered her head and nuzzled Ducky.

"I'm very sorry for your loss, Ducky. We're all here if ya need us. Don't ever forget that."

"I will not forget," Ducky cried. Aurelia then headed back over to the corpse, and began to bury it. Just then, she noticed Spike step in and begin to help.

"Are ya sure you're okay doin' this?" asked Aurelia.

"I can handle it," Spike sniffled as they worked together. They did not converse anymore, but the sound of Ducky's mourning was heart-breaking to the pair.

"O-ok, or we can go with that plan..." Kit said unsurely, following after the flyer and hoping what would follow wouldn't be a disaster.

"Okay. She's buried now," Spike sniffed as he made sure Ducky had heard him. Ducky slowly came forward. Renn was walking next to her with his right arm around her, and she had her left arm around him. Once they reached the burial spot, Ducky gently placed her right hand on the site.

"Farewell, sis. Rest in peace. I love you, yep yep yep," Ducky cried before she turned toward Renn. Renn held her closely while he cried himself.

"Guys, Ducky's in no shape to be doing any more searching today. If it's okay, I'm gonna stay with Ducky for the rest of the day," said Renn.

"Yeah, go ahead. She needs to take care of herself," replied Spike.

"Fine with me. Hang in there, Ducky," added Aurelia.

"Okay, then. C'mon, sweetie. Let's go sit somewhere and take it easy," whispered Renn as he gently guided Ducky away from Spike and Aurelia.

"She was your sister, too. Ya don't have to stay with me if ya need to go with 'em," Aurelia said to Spike.

"Thanks for the offer, but I'm fine. We'll be fine, even Ducky," Spike replied as he looked over at Ducky and Renn.

"Alrightie, then. Let's keep searchin'," said Aurelia.

Zaine unfortunately could not find any survivors as well. It seemed like the search was going nowhere very quickly, but he didn't want to give up just yet. "I'm not stopping until I find Longtail, dead or alive." Just then he saw a familiar face. A flyer was approaching him and fast. "There's a survivor!" he yelled out excitedly. He was even more happy to see who it was. "Pearl! Thank goodness you're ok!" Finally hope rushed through Zaine's body. If Pearl is alive, then there must be others with her, Zaine thought. Maybe we'll find Longtail.

Littlefoot nodded. "That could be a problem also, but my grandpa told me that if we ever needed to leave the valley there are some paths that are not as in the open as others. The hole in the Great Wall would have been very helpful around now, but then again I'm not sure if the Mysterious Beyond is such a good place to go." Littlefoot thought long and hard, but every path he could think of was most likely blocked by now. Then he realized something. "Wait a second. Back when the Swarming Leaf Goppers ate all the green food we found a temporary location to stay until the Great Valley grew more food. What if we head there? It's not too close to the valley so maybe there will still be some food and water there."

Pearl was surprised she'd found Zaine so quickly and the fact that others she recognized were with him. "I'm so glad I found you Zaine...you and the others need to follow me, we've gathered other survivors under the Tree of Life, and Longtail is looking for you."

The female flyer took off after Kit and still continued to smile. She then turned to Petrie and asked him a question. "You know Longtail...tell me, is anyone in his herd trying to steal his position as leader?"

Ruby smiled at the thought.
"Littlefoot you are so smart! Yes, going to that other place may be the only place we can go." she commented aloud.

Petrie narrowed his eyes a bit suspiciously of the question, "Um...no, why would someone try to do that, we all like him" he answered.

Kit meanwhile tried to fly just a bit fast to give Longtail some kind of warning beforehand. "Longtail" she landed near where he was, and noticed he seemed a bit worse for the wear.

"Oh my gosh, are you ok?...uh and...well you said any survivors who knew you...she knows you..." Kit pointed with an unsure look behind him.

Littlefoot nodded. "We can't leave yet though. We need to catch up with Zaine and the others. If they do happen to find survivors then I want everybody to be able to follow us. Come on. Let's go find Zaine."

Zaine smiled even more. "Longtail is alive? And there are others too? That's great! Littlefoot will be so happy to hear this. Please Pearl, you have to take us to Longtail right away."

Pearl nodded to Zaine and flew faster hoping that nothing bad had happened in her absence.

The female flyer simply gave a sly smile to Petrie as she landed next to Kit. Then against everything that she thought she'd do...she began to laugh! And loudly at that.
"Well isn't this wonderful. the almighty guardian wounded, weak, and having to be carried by a bellydragger...how fitting for such a complete fool!" she said with all the malice and contempt her voice could muster.

Longtail upon hearing Kit speak, slowly opened his eyes and looked at her for a moment, but once the other female flyer spoke, Longtail's body moved generally on reflex...and within a moment he stood up, jumped off of Greg's back, and had his claws at the flyers throat as he scowled and shouted aloud, "WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO KILL YOU?!"

Both Kit and Petrie looked shocked.

"What's going on?" Twiz asked, flying over.

"I...think I blew it..." was all Kit said.

"L-Longtail, come on now" she flapped forward to try and pry the two apart, or Longtail off the female, eitherway, "can't we solve this with words?" she asked.

Petrie darted forward to yank his cousin back though, "Petrie, I don't care how much you hate her, we can't..." Kit began.

"It's not that" Petrie said, "but haven't you learned by now that whatever problems Longtail has, most of the times you shouldn't get involved".

"Well...what's his problem with her?" Twiz asked, confused. Petrie and Kit both shrugged.

"She's kinda nasty, but past that I have no clue" Petrie said.

Longtail's anger caught Spike and Aurelia's attention. They stopped their searching, looked in the direction Longtail's voice came from, and saw he held another flyer in a strangle grip.

"What in the name of sharpteeth is goin' on over there?" Aurelia asked Spike.

"I'm not sure, but it does not look pretty. I'm not getting involved, though," answered Spike before he continued searching for survivors.

"Me neither," Aurelia agreed as she rejoined Spike.

Without taking his eyes or claws away from the flyers neck Longtail asked a question. "Tell me this everyone, when you drop anything into a pit of firewater, do you expect it to live?!" He then spoke straight to the female flyer in his grip "Cause I was sure when I dropped you in there with both wings broken...you were supposed to die!"

The female flyer smiled as if she'd done the impossible.
"well then I guess you'll just have to try harder you arrogant fool! After all your herd will be mine!"

Pearl was far enough ahead that she could hear commotion from where she'd left Longtail and the others near the tree...and it didn't sound good.

"Oh you weren't talking about yourself..." Petrie realized, since that kind of crazy stuff sounded like the kind of stuff Longtail had survived.

Kit frowned, wanting more so to interfere now after what the female flyer had said if she was trying to take Longtail's herd, but then...that was the point...none of them were part of Longtail's herd, unless...

"Wait, didn't Longtail include us in his herd?" she asked both Twiz and Petrie. The boys frowned.

"I don't...remember, like if he said it officially, why?".

"'cause if she did we might have a case to give him help" Kit replied.
