The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

A new world...Same old faces

Chomper nuzzled back, unbelievably happy to see he still had his family.

Ichy, after covering his ears from Longtail's scream, asked "How'd you guys survive anyways?"

Myra and Rita could not believe what Longtail had just said, even if they did not like Sweetie themselves.

Littlefoot was more or less stunned by Longtail's accusation, let alone his screaming. At that moment he knew how crucial it was to keep Sweetie and Longtail far apart from each other. He inched away from Zaine a bit but then said, "No offense Zaine."

Zaine could understand Longtail's anger, but it seemed misplaced. He saw with his own eyes that Sweetie only meant to help him, and the only reason she was fighting was because he became overwhelmed by his past hatred for her. "Longtail that's enough!" Zaine yelled back. "You aren't in any position to be ordering anybody around right now. Besides like it or not, we are in this together. I don't know what happened between you and Sweetie but you have to put it aside for now! If you hate her so much just ignore her! But don't pull something stupid like that in the middle of a larger crisis!" Zaine sighed. "We're only concerned with your safety Longtail. I care so much about you and we have braved many dangers together. You can't let something in the past completely destroy the present!" Zaine wasn't exactly sure how Longtail was going to react, but it certainly seemed Sweetie wouldn't hear the end of Longtail for sure.

While she was cleaning Longtail's wounds Pearl could tell Zaine was speaking the truth. However she noticed something immediately as her mate was beginning to shake. "Longtail...are you feeling cold?" she asked worried for his well being.

Longtail however was shaking from sheer rage, and showed as his breathing became harsh and shallow to the point where he was trying to keep his eyesight straight. "Mark my words Zaine...you have two bright circles to get rid of Sweetie, or I WILL KILL YOU BOTH!" he screamed. He then sighed, closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep, one which he would not awake from for several days.

Cyrix looked up at Zaine and asked, "What do you plan to do? Longtail won't go back on a promise like that..."

Sweetie was staying silent waiting to hear what Zaine would say to Cyrix and Littlefoot.

Diamond looked over to Twiz, Kit and Petrie and asked, "Honestly, I don't know what to think now...Longtail is obviously frustrated and prone to shouting, but that could be due to his wounds. What is your opinion?"

Zaine was too shocked to really answer.  Those words that came out of Longtail's beak meant certain doom, because when he threatened to kill somebody he always followed through. Now the person he is going to kill is his best friend and long time brother? This can't be happening. What is Longtail thinking? He knows he doesn't really want to kill me, but he seemed so serious. Cyrix's question broke Zaine out of whatever trance he was in. "I don't know. Honestly, I never thought Longtail would ever see me as an enemy. I guess this feud with Sweetie is more serious than I thought." He then looked at Littlefoot. "You know now just as much as I do that we're not safe in the herd. If Longtail does try to kill me it will mean disaster for the rest of us. Making sure everybody gets to the safe place safely is now more important than ever."

Littlefoot was confused. "Zaine, what are you saying?"

Zaine sighed. "It might be best for all of us if I take Sweetie and leave the herd."

Littlefoot was shocked. "Don't even think about it Zaine. We need you here to help us get there."

"If I stay here and Sweetie isn't dead then Longtail will kill us both, and that will destroy the herd." Zaine glanced back at Sweetie. "This feud between the two of you has gone too far now. For both our sakes, we shouldn't be a part of the herd anymore."

Littlefoot shook his head. "You aren't serious! You are not leaving us at a time like this."

Zaine bowed his head. "I'm sorry Littlefoot, but we may have no choice. What will the young ones think of this?"

"But there has to be another way," Littlefoot argued. "Longtail isn't going to kill you no matter what he says."

"I'm not sure," Zaine replied.

Diamond looked over to Twiz, Kit and Petrie and asked, "Honestly, I don't know what to think now...Longtail is obviously frustrated and prone to shouting, but that could be due to his wounds. What is your opinion?"

Petrie just shook his head, completely shocked and confused by what has transpired the same as everyone else. "I don't know, I just...hope he isn't serious...".

"Yeah" Twiz whispered, "but he can't be really serious in something like that...can he?".

Kit frowned, and in her faceing forward as she flapped along with the others she looked almost angry. She wasn't, really angry or anything it was just...as much as she talked about their luck, she also thought some amount of bad luck or a curse of some kind much be following those associated with her.

The issue of Longtail and how she could even now see it might split the herd was completely different, yet not so different than what she'd half witnessed but really heard about and witnessed indirectly of the trip to the Great Valley in the first place and how her Uncle Pterano was banished.

Even Petrie hadn't...been there, he hadn't seen it. Well truthfully the grown-ups hardly told her and Petrie's siblings anything anyway and she found out alot of it due to asking her dad and aunt, but still...

Pride and this stupid thing about leading and it being important seemed like the common thread to a group's demise.

"Kit?" Petrie's question brought her back to the moment and she realized besides frowning almost hurt and angry, she hadn't answered.

Kit shook her head, not sure if she could answer and fully explain, "I...it, for the sake of my thought on him he better not be serious is all I've got to say" she finished. Her gaze took in where Flip was flying along, doing tricks and just hanging out with Longtail's hatchlings it seemed.

She had to smile at the childish innocence she knew of all to well, given what she'd just been thinking on.

"Well...guess I should keep, keeping watch on the hatchling, make sure they remain ok" she flapped over to do just that.

Twiz glanced over at Diamond and Petrie, "guess we're all kinda...in a pause, unsure what to do or think really" he sighed.

Diamond nodded.
"I suspected as much. This is a very trying time for all of us."

Pearl was silently crying as she watched over Longtail.
"This...shouldn't be happening. We're all friends and family. You said so yourself Longtail...why are you trying to ruin it?" she asked herself. "I don't want to see you hurt those you love, but....if...you intend to keep your promise, then I'll...I..." she couldn't bring herself to finish the sentence as she looked up at Littlefoot and asked,
"W-what do I do...I...I'm confused about this....I want to protect Longtail, but I....I have a....responsibility to the rest of our herd."

Cyrix sighed.
"Longtail, self sacrifice isn't the way to do this...please while you rest look inside yourself, and see the truth behind your choices."

Littlefoot shook his head. "To be honest, I have no idea. This never happened with me and my friends, so I've never experienced what Zaine is right now. I really don't know what we can do. If Longtail is serious about his threat, then Zaine and Sweetie are not safe with us." He glanced at Longtail, who was sleeping on his back. "But I don't want anybody to leave the herd, no matter what their reason may be." He then looked at Pearl. "My mother told me to let my heart guide me, so maybe if you listen to your heart you will know what to do. It whispers, so listen closely. That's what she told me at least."

"It's no use," Zaine commented. "We can't put this off any longer. I don't want the herd to be devastated by what may happen between me and Longtail. Maybe is Sweetie and I stay on our own, and at least follow behind you from a safe distance, then we can still continue on our journey. Pearl can take care of Longtail's wounds, and Cyrix can keep him under control. Sweetie and I can manage on our own, but we won't be far behind. Just far enough so Longtail won't have to see us."

Littlefoot glanced at Cyrix. "He's your nephew. What do you think?"

Pearl smiled at Littlefoots words.
"You're right again. This is why you were chosen to lead." She then closed her eyes and took a deep breath trying to focus on hearing her heart. After a moment she opened her eyes with a smile on her face. "I know what to do now...thank you Littlefoot for your help." she said as she gave a small giggle.

Sweetie looked up to Zaine and asked, "I know what I've done is wrong, but now it seems Longtail is determined to kill me...would you like to know why we hate each other so much?"

Diamond continued to watch over the hatchlings that were flying in the sky. He couldn't help but laugh at the games they were playing. "I remember that game...it almost got me lost once."

Cyrix looked up at Littlefoot with a sly smile.
"When Longtail wakes up, I'll show him what he needs to do."

Littlefoot nodded. "Just don't hurt him. We still need Longtail." He then nodded towards Zaine. "Your plan sounds fine, just make sure you can still see us. I don't want to be leaving you behind." He then glanced at Chomper. "Hey Chomper, ask your parents if they would be willing to provide protection for us." He then looked at Pearl. "I'm glad that I could help. It always made me feel better whenever I was lost, and thank you for believing in me as a leader." He then looked over to Ducky and Spike who had remained relatively quiet throughout the last few minutes. "Are you too okay? It's like you're not even here or something."

Zaine nodded and slowly began to back up, making sure he didn't wake up Longtail. I'm sorry Longtail, but this is for your own good. He then glanced back at Sweetie. "Well you two have been trying to kill each other numerous times now, so it probably would be a good idea to fill me in. Tell me nothing but the truth."

Chomper nodded at Littlefoot's request.

"<Mom, dad, we're gonna need some protection," the teen rex explained, "We're gonna need your help.>"

Cyrix smiled at Littlefoot.
"Don't worry about it. Hurting my nephew is the last thing I'd want to do."

Both Terri and Dein grinned and nodded.
<Certainly son, we'd be glad to protect you and your new herd.> said Terri as she stepped next to Chomper.

Pearl lied down next to Longtail and replied, "You're welcome Littlefoot." as she closed her eyes and fell asleep as well.

Sweetie however looked up at Zaine with a feeling she hadn't felt before in a long time, honesty. She wanted to tell the whole truth to Zaine no matter what he thought of her, simply because she liked him alot."Okay, it started back when Longtail took over control of our herd as a hatchling, that promotion of his, meant that my father, who was next in line to lead was passed over."  She sighed as she continued.

"That made my father furious. He plotted for weeks on how best to kill Longtail and take his rightful place as leader, but in the end Longtail found out about my fathers plans and the two of them dueled before my father was killed."

She took a moment to look at the sky.
"Then Longtail felt bad for me, and I know he did, but after killing my father he took it upon himself to train all the other hatchlings in our herd how to fight so we could better protect ourselves if we needed, but then...." she stopped for a moment as she remembered what happened next. "My mother said to use his teachings against him. And when we all finally finished our training, my mother and I both attacked Longtail in cold blood. It was a horrible thing to do I know, but...I was so angry and full of hatred for Longtail that it clouded my judgement."

She then sighed and began to cry.
"You can guess how the fight ended, with my mother dead, and me wounded, but I knew I'd survive. It was at that moment that when Longtail could have sent me away, he allowed me to keep my place in the herd...but I'm still so angry, he left me without any family! And then he told me to never forget how much they loved me and that I had to let go of everything I fear to lose!" She then looked Zaine in the eyes as she said aloud, "Can you believe that?! That is why I hate him so much...and to see him still alive after all this time just only makes me want vengeance more!"

Spike looked at a depressed-looking Ducky, then back at Littlefoot.

"We're fine, thanks.  It's just been a very rough day for everyone," Spike replied to Littlefoot.

Littlefoot nodded. "I know what you mean. This whole day hasn't been easy." He glanced over at Ducky. "Ducky, I wish I knew what I could do to make you feel better. I hate seeing you like this. You were always the happy one in our group, but I guess this really affected you." He sighed. "We're going to make it Ducky. We'll find this place and live a peaceful life like we always have. It may not be the exact same, but it will certainly count for something."

Zaine couldn't believe what he was hearing, and by the way Sweetie told her story he knew she was telling the truth. Something still confused him though. Why is she confiding in me? If I'm friends with Longtail, doesn't that make me her enemy? So why would she be so honest? Does she trust me? Is she trying to turn me against Longtail? Then another thought popped into his head. What if she likes me? What if she really really likes me? How is Longtail going to take that?. Zaine bowed his head. "I'm so sorry for your loss Sweetie. I'm not going to pretend to understand Longtail's actions. I know how it feels to lose somebody you really love. I lost my entire herd to sharpteeth and an earthshake." He glanced back at the group ahead to make sure they weren't too far behind, and then back to Sweetie. "I know this probably won't help, but none of it was your fault. You did all that you could, but sometimes things just happen that we can't control. I know how much you want revenge, but killing him will only make the pain worse. It won't heal you or make you feel better, you'll only feel more remorse." He continued to think to himself. Besides, she can't blame Longtail for everything. If he was really only a hatchling when given control, he didn't know better. He was only defending himself against Sweetie's father, and at least he tried to make up for it. I guess Sweetie isn't ready to let it go. I can tell Longtail isn't ready either.

"It will not be the same without my family, no no no.  I miss them so bad, yes I do," Ducky choked as she began to cry.  Renn wrapped his arm around her and kept trying to comfort her, though his efforts did not seem to be working well.

Sweetie smiled at Zaine as she laid down and said, "Thanks for listening. And if you need any help just let me know." she then winked at him and closed her eyes trying to get some rest from her fight.

Diamond continued to fly with Kit and the hatchlings and he turned to her and asked, "How long do you think this trip will take?"

Cyrix continued to walk without talking to anyone. He was upset about his nephews actions. 'He needs to learn what it means to lose a part of himself again...I hate to do this...but his hatchlings have to go....' Cyrix thought darkly to himself.

From where she flew near Diamond, Kit actually cracked a smile and laughed at his words on the kid's games, somehow since a simple statement helping to lessen the tension and pressure of...everything.

"Did you?" she asked, "that sounds familiar, I'm tempted to ask you how many times you almost got lost because I think as a group, Petrie and I tagging after Littlefoot have you beat on that".

There was a small pause before she sighed, "Sorry about...I don't know, getting perhaps over dramatic back there it's just...I guess I got worried with how we don't need extra trouble".

She decided he'd given her a pretty good change of focus on his last question though, even if she didn't have much of an answer.

"Well...if it's the same spot of before, as Littlefoot's said, that we took refuge in when the swarming leaf gobblers ate all the green food...I'd say maybe a bit over a day but...well none of us were really paying attention during that trip as hatchlings, we were all so worried about our herd's splitting up due to...again, arguments" she shook her head at the slight dejavu, "it never happened and when Littlefoot and the rest of us snuck away to find food and stop the argument all we did was worry our parents, but, we were kids, we didn't know that at the time".

Seeing Kit's worry melt away to an actual smile though, made Petrie and Twiz feel better too and they breathed a sigh of relief.

"I still don't know what brought that on, though" Twiz admitted to his friend and brother-in-law. Petrie shrugged, "You got me, even with hanging around Kit and as many sisters I have I still don't get girls".

He glanced back, once more, to where Ducky and Spike walked. Wanting with all he had to go comfort Ducky, even if he had nothing to say, but also not wanting to crowd. Things were so much harder now that they were grown, he realized.

As she closely followed Spike, Ducky, and Renn, Aurelia could not help but feel very sad for Ducky.  She knew personally what it's like to lose your family in what seems like a blink of an eye.  She looked toward the ground as she recalled what had happened on that fateful day...

"Mama!  Trina's pickin' on me again!" a hatchling-aged Aurelia squeaked.

"No, I'm not!" Aurelia's sister, Trina, retorted.

"Are, too!"

"Am not!"

"Liar!"

"Crybaby!"

"Enough!" her mother thundered as she cast a glare down at the group of five hatchlings.  "Can't ya kids behave while we..."

"Sharptooth!" the youngest hatchling, Troy, shouted, alerting the family of threehorns.

"Run, children!  I'll fend 'em off!" Aurelia's father ordered as he charged toward the pack of fastbiters.  The hatchlings' mother guided them away, but Aurelia kept watching in horror.  Her father managed to trample one fastbiter and skewer another fastbiter, but the remaining six fastbiters took him down in a couple of minutes.

"Daddy!  No!" she cried out as her father fell victim to the fastbiters.

"I love you," he said with his last breath.  As the fastbiters began to tear into the slaughtered threehorn, three of them looked over at the mother and hatchlings.  They spoke to each other in sharptooth, then charged toward the family.

"Get behind me, kids!" their mother ordered as she prepared to counterattack.  However, what happened next totally startled her.  As one fastbiter charged at her, the other two dashed around her.

"Children!" she gasped as she heard the terrified screams of her children.  She knocked the fastbiter attacking her away with her horns, then turned around as quickly as she could.  By the time she got around, three of her hatchlings were dead.

"No," she choked as she glanced at a nearby pond.  What she saw gave her some hope.  Aurelia was still alive and heading in the water.  The entire family had always thought Aurelia was an odd threehorn for liking water so much, but this time, her mother could not have been anymore grateful, for she knew fastbiters could not swim.  Aurelia was trying to get Trina to swim with her.

"C'mon, Trina!  It's your only chance!" Aurelia cried as she tried to convince her sister.

"No way!  I'll drown for sure!" Trina replied in a fearful tone.

"But, it's better than...AHHHH!" Aurelia screamed as Trina was snatched up by a fastbiter.  She screamed in horror again as her sister's blood sprayed on her.  She looked back behind the fastbiter in time to see her mother get killed the way sharpteeth like to kill, by going for the jugular.  She began to cry, but her tears of grief became tears of fear as another fastbiter suddenly stood over her.  She stuck her head underwater, and as the fastbiter prepared to snatch her up in its jaws, she resurfaced and spat water in the fastbiter's face.  This incapacitated the fastbiter long enough for Aurelia to get a head start in swimming out to the middle of the pond.  The fastbiter pursued her for as long as it could, before the water got too deep for comfort.  The fastbiter let out a roar of defeat, and headed back for shore.  Meanwhile, Aurelia just bobbed in the water like a buoy as she treaded water.  All she could do was watch helplessly as her family was devoured down to the bones.  She spent much of the day there, crying in grief and anger at the thought of being unable to help her family.

Aurelia shook her head of those memories as she kept on walking with the others.

Littlefoot knew it was going to be difficult for Ducky to cheer up. He was really surprised he got over his grandparents' death, but Ducky had such a loving and caring family. Also, Ducky never seemed to deserve any pain. She never did anything wrong and was always selfless. Of all the dinosaurs who suffered, why was it her who suffered the most? Littlefoot couldn't understand it at all, but to keep his mind off of it he glanced over at Chomper and his parents. It seemed like they were willing to protect their herd for the time being. "Tell your parents we really appreciate their help." He then looked over at Cyrix who was unusually silent. Even more troubling, there was a dark expression in his face, one Littlefoot had never seen before. "Cyrix, are you ok?" he asked.

Zaine nodded. "You get some rest too. You took quite a beating." As Sweetie began to rest, Zaine looked up ahead at the group. They were still in sight so he knew they weren't too far ahead, but no matter what he couldn't get Longtail out of his mind. I know he didn't mean what he said. I know no matter how much he may now hate me he would never kill me, let alone hurt me. This feud between him and Sweetie has to end, but I don't think I would ever be able to convince him otherwise. I probably wouldn't want to settle things with somebody who killed both my parents either, but Sweetie has to know he was only protecting himself. He sighed and shook his head. I don't want anything to happen to either of them. I just hope there is a way I can help them both.

As Cyrix walked he looked up to face Littlefoot and his dark expression only became darker.
"No, I'm not alright...and I need your help. When we get to where we are going, we have to make Longtail believe he's lost his hatchlings only we'll know where they are. He has to absolutly believe they are dead." The rainbow face sighed again. "This isn't easy for me to admit, but in his time as leader, although he's done very well for himself, he's become, arrogant and dare I say annoying to everyone." He continued to look up at Littlefoot as he asked "I can count on you right?"

Diamond smiled at Kits remark.
"I don't know about that...Longtail took our herd off our migration course so many times I thought we'd never get there by the breeding season." he then laughed as well finding humor in the memory.

However as both Longtail and Sweetie slept they both began to dream back to the day Sweetie and her mother tried to kill him.

"This is it my daughter! NOW!" shouted Sweetie's mother as she grabbed Longtail by the neck and held him against a rock.

Sweetie stepped forward and using an attack she'd learned from Longtail scratched him across his belly drawing blood, and immediately began to feel bad. "Mom....are you sure we're doing the right thing?" she asked innocently.

Her mother looked up at her with an astonished look on her face, and said "THIS FOOL KILLED YOUR FATHER! I WANT MY REVENGE AND YOU SHOULD TOO! NOW HELP ME FINISH HIM SO WE CAN TAKE OUR PLACE AT THE HEAD OF THIS HERD!" she shouted to Sweetie.

Longtail however took that moment to bring his tail up and smack Sweetie's mother in the beak forcing her to let go. He then spun on his back and tail whipped the feet right out from under Sweetie and stood up. "So this is how you plan to use my gift to you Sweetie....I'm sorry you feel that way."

Sweetie was stunned, after Longtail had killed her father, he'd shown almost no emotion, but here he was saying he was sorry. She stepped up to him and looked Longtail in the eyes as she asked, "Do you really mean that?"

Longtail gave a smile as he said, "Of course I do, you are a member of this herd just like your mother, and..."

But before he could finish his sentence he was grabbed from behind by Sweeties' mother and she proceeded to try and claw Longtail apart. And for a moment Sweetie heard Longtails' cries of both shock and pain as her mother now had Longtail pinned with no chance of escaping. And in that moment she made a split second decision, she raised her claws and held Longtail's beak closed and stepped on his neck trying to suffocate him.

Longtail was beginning to lose his grip on consciousness and in a last ditch effort to save his life, he picked up a sharpened stick with his tail and closed his eyes as he swung it forward knowing right where it would land.

Sweeties' mother eyes widened for a moment and she looked down to see a stick protruding from right where her heart would be...and she coughed once then fell over onto the ground, and even as she lay dying she said to her daughter, "K-kill....the...f-fool....n-no matter how....l-long...it....takes..." and with that passed away.

Longtail and Sweetie both stared at Gems corpse for several moments before Sweetie burst into tears and hugged her mothers limp body. "MOMMY!" was the only word she cried.

Longtail at that moment stood up trying to clear his eyesight and get his breath back. He then looked over to Sweetie and her mother and began to cry as he thought of his own mother who had died doing what she knew was right. It was painful no matter how many times he tried not to think about it.

Sweetie looked back at Longtail through tear stained eyes with hatred staining her heart and for a moment was utterly shocked at what she saw as she watched Longtail crying. It was touching to see him caring so much, but he'd killed both her parents in cold blood and now wanted to cry about it...she then turned back to her mothers body and whispered, "I'll kill him mom...for you and dad!"

At the very same exact second Longtail and Sweetie both began to cry in their sleep.

Kit found a laugh too at Diamond's statement. Then she shook her head. "I know Longtail means the best it's just..." she sighed, "I guess this whole leadership feud due to pride that every herd's got I know, is something I'll never understand; but then I've been told I see the world through rose tinted clouds so" she smiled and shrugged, "perhaps my perception of the world doesn't exist".
