Littlefoot nodded. "I guess I'm hanging in. I still can''t believe everything that has happened today, but I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. It was just a matter of whether or not we were ready for it." Littlefoot smiled a little. "If you ever want to talk just let me know. I'm here for everybody including you." Littlefoot then glanced back at Pearl. "Your welcome Pearl. With you beside him Longtail will be ok for sure."

Zaine smiled a little and shook his head. "Thanks Sweetie, but I'm fine really. I'll sit by the water though and keep an eye out for you if you want."

Sweetie giggled and shrugged as she stepped into the water.
"Oh well...more fun for me." she said with a smile towards Zaine.

Pearl then grinned as she replied, "It's good you're hanging on then, cause without you I don't know where we'd be. You're family must be proud watching you from the Great Beyond." Pearl then laughed as Longtail began to lightly snore and began mumbling about orange treesweets as he slept.

Cyrix sighed as he said, "I'm glad to hear that. Come on over and we'll let the others know of your choice Thud."

Terri and Dein both turned and continued to keep watch hoping nothing else would happen.

Diamond watched his hatchlings play along with Flip and he smiled brightly at the hatchlings innocence.

Both Dein and Terri smiled as they heard Chomper ask his question.
"Well...it would seem that our daily bathing routine saved us." Said Terri with a laugh.

Dein then replied, "We were both underwater when it all happened, and had no idea that anything bad had happened at all until we surfaced and saw the destruction."

Cyrix cleared his throat and said, "Everyone we have an announcement to make."

Littlefoot smiled. "Thanks Ducky. It's nice to know what's happened here hasn't hurt our friendship." He then glanced over at Cyrix who was conversing with Thud for a little bit. "I can take a pretty good guess as to what his announcement is going to be," he muttered.

Zaine also approached the group after hearing Cyrix speak up. "I wonder what this is all about." He glanced at Sweetie and nodded his head back to usher her closer.

Sweetie picked herself out of the water and shook herself dry as she said, "What's up?"

Cyrix turned to face everyone and replied, "Thud has decided to join with our herd for his protection and ours. Please do try and make him feel welcome."

Pearl smiled at the idea.
"This could be a good thing. What do you think Littlefoot?" she asked quietly.

Littlefoot was actually surprised Thud wanted to join their herd in the first place. Maybe he realizes he can't fight all of us if he tried. Maybe he's finally changed. "I guess even everybody in the Mysterious Beyond was affected by this disaster. If Red Claw and Screech are both dead, then Thud would be all alone." After some consideration, Littlefoot nodded. "Thud is welcome to join our herd."

"Are you sure about this?" Zaine asked. "I'm not trying to question your judgment, but Thud has been your enemy for a long time now."

"I realize that," Littlefoot agreed, "but it's like with Sweetie and Longtail. Right now we have bigger things to worry about and we need to put our differences aside if we want to survive."

"I see what you're saying," Zaine nodded, "but we just fought that pack of fast biters earlier. Why didn't Thud join with them?"

"They probably left before he had the chance to find them," Littlefoot commented. "Besides, we did kill some of them, so it wouldn't be the best group for him."

"I don't know," Zaine sighed. "It seems risky."

"Now you are questioning my judgment," Littlefoot added, and Zaine knew he was right.

"I'm sorry Littlefoot," Zaine apologized. "I just don't want anything bad to happen to our group at such a critical time."

"It's ok," Littlefoot nodded.

"I'm fine with Thud joining us if everybody else is," Zaine concluded. Although I will be the first to deal with him should he try anything stupid around me.

Renn, Spike, and Aurelia came over to Ducky.

"Are Sweetie and Longtail okay?" Renn asked.

"They seem to be okay now, yep yep yep," Ducky replied.

"Littlefoot's okay, too?" Spike asked. Ducky nodded in response.

"Well, I'm glad nobody's hurt," Renn said just before Thud caught his attention. "Hey, who's the fastbiter?"

"That would be Thud," Spike answered as he stared at Thud. "He tried to eat us on countless occasions when we were growing up." Upon hearing that, Renn protectively wrapped his arm around Ducky.

"Maybe we should send him on his way," Renn said with anger in his voice. "Who knows what he'll do if we turn our backs to him, even just once."

"I would not mind if we do," Spike agreed. Ducky gently wriggled away from Renn and turned to face the others. Aurelia had remained silent, but she had kept her stare on Thud since Renn had first pointed him out.

"Guys, we cannot do that, no no no," Ducky said.

"And why is that?" Spike asked curiously.

"Many bright circles back, Thud tried to eat Chomper and myself, but he got trapped. He did, he did. I was too small to help Thud, and it would have been suicide for me to approach him, but Chomper acted on behalf of the two of us and helped Thud escape his entrapment, yep yep yep. Thud agreed that, in exchange for helping him, he let us go. He did, he did. My point is that if we let him join the herd and he knows he is not on his own, maybe he will not try to eat us because we are giving him a chance of survival, yep yep yep. Why should we turn him away after such terrible events just because he is a fastbiter?" Ducky explained. Spike and Renn thought hard for a few moments.

"You've got a good point, dear," Renn finally spoke up.

"I think you're onto something, Ducky. Maybe he will help protect us instead of trying to eat us," Spike added. Aurelia was still silent. Ducky turned her attention to the threehorn.

"Aurelia?" Ducky called. Aurelia shook her head and turned her glance to Ducky.

"I guess it's alright if Thud joins us, but until I know he can be trusted, I will be watchin' him like a flyer," Aurelia said before she turned her glance back to Thud. "It's difficult for me to trust the very kind that took everyone I loved away from me, but I also understand Thud had nothin' to do with my family's massacre. I'll do my best to not let his species cloud my judgment." She then fell silent again as she watched Thud.

Try to take out anyone in this herd, fastbiter, and I'll pound ya down to a pile of dust without a second thought, Aurelia thought to herself.

Greg walked over to Twiz. "You doing ok?" the belly dragger asked his flyer friend.

Chomper himself was still a bit unsure about Thud, but he knew if the fast biter tried anything, the rest of the herd could quickly eliminate the problem.

Petrie and Twiz had been about to answer Diamond's question when Cyrix made his announcement and they had that to think of and another thing to deal with.

In 'greeting', Kit was very quick on the uptake and darted over to hug Thud straight out, "Greetings and welcome to a change of mind and our herd" she said cheerfully, flapping back up.

The boys had paused in an almost frozen action of attempting to stop her before sighing as they realized she was high enough out of danger now.

"...wish she wouldn't do that" Petrie said.

"Yeah" Twiz said with a sigh, turning to Greg, "it's just been...a whole lot crammed into one day, you know" he sighed again. He turned to where Flip was playing, though, and also where he could spot Azure (I think that's the name I went with LOL) off within the herd too.

"But...I got those two...three" he turned to where Kit was too, "so, I guess I'm good all in all".

Littlefoot nodded. "Then we're all in agree. Thud may join our herd." He smiled towards the fast biter. "We may have had our differences in the past, but I hope we can put those behind us and look to our future."

Zaine couldn't help but still feel uneasy. He trusted Littlefoot with his life, but bringing a fast biter into the herd seemed kind of risky, despite Chomper being a part of their group. I wonder how Longtail is going to take this. May he sleep peacefully for now. He then turned his attention towards Sweetie, and for the first time he gazed at her. There was something about her that clicked into place for him. He couldn't explain it at first, but after a bit he saw it. She looks just like her. I see her in my mind every time I look at Sweetie. What does this mean?

Right now, Thud just appreciated being alive.

Sweetie looked over at Zaine and blushed as she said, "What are you looking at? I know I'm pretty but you know what might happen if Longtail saw you looking at me like that..."

Cyrix was busy thinking to himself and was staring at the sky wondering why the smoke had not yet gone away. "This could be a bad sign...I just hope nothing else happens to break our group up any further."

Longtail continued to sleep soundly on Littlefoots back, while Pearl slept by his side.

Just then, a panting voice could be heard to some of the group members a short distance away.

The image of an adolescent longneck began to form in the shadows, and then, all of a sudden, Rhett appeared!

"Rhett?!" Chomper gasped, surprised.

Littlefoot glanced over and was equally surprised to see another survivor, especially since that survivor was another friend of theirs. Thank the beyond somebody else is alive. "Rhett! I can't believe you are ok! How did you find us? What happened to your herd?" Right after he asked that question he froze. He knew very well which herd Rhett was a part of, and the thought gripped him with fear. "Is........ is Ali alive?"

Zaine sighed. "I'm sorry Sweetie but I can't help it. It's just, you remind me of somebody I know, or used to know anyway. Somebody who I was very close to....................... somebody who I almost loved. Every time I look at you I see her again, but I can't get it out of my head."

"Hey, guys! It's Rhett!" Spike spoke up, getting the attention of his group.

"It is Rhett! It is, it is!" Ducky said.

"Looks like we've got another survivor," Renn observed.

"This is awesome. The more survivors we encounter, the better," Aurelia said.
