The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

A new world...Same old faces

Cyrix merely nodded his head and sat down and almost immediately was asleep and snoring softly.

Sweetie looked up to Zaine as she asked, "Can I take the first watch? Please, I wanna prove that I can pull my weight in this herd!"

Pearl had to smile at Sweetie's optimism at this chance.
"Sure. I'll even help you...just as soon as I get my hatchlings out of the sky." she said with a small laugh. She then flapped her wings and took to the sky and brought her hatchlings down and laid them down next to their father who was still sleeping soundly.

Ruby yawned as she lied down on the ground but smiled as she looked around knowing they would be safe for the night.

Terri and Dein turned to Chomper and nuzzled him as they said in tandem, "Sleep well son."

Zaine nodded. "Go ahead. It'll be easier since Pearl's helping you out. Just be careful ok? Wake me up if something happens." He then knelt down and lowered his head to the ground. He almost fell asleep until his eyes fell upon Longtail who was still sound asleep on Littlefoot's back. "How's Longtail?" he asked.

Littlefoot glanced at the flyer on his back. "He's fine for now, just really tired. I think we all are at this point."

Zaine nodded. "Can you let me know when he wakes up?"

"Sure thing Zaine. You get some rest." Zaine nodded and closed his eyes. Littlefoot however glared back at Cyrix, who was at this point asleep. I guess I'm having second thoughts about Cyrix's request. I know he means well for Longtail, but there has to be another way that's less cruel. His hatchlings mean the world to him. Littlefoot also lowerd his head, but he kept one eye open on Cyrix.

"Okay Tricia, bed time now" Cera said to her sister as she gave her a light nudge towards the ground.  The young three horn let out a wide yawn and curled up on the ground, Cera curling up next to her.

Ali looked at Littlefoot, hesitating for a moment.  She took a deep breath and built up the courage to walk over, laying down with Littlefoot's back facing her.  She made sure their back were just barely touching before drifting off to sleep.

"'Night, everyone," Aurelia yawned before she lowered herself to the ground, tucked her front legs under her chin, and fell asleep.

"Goodnight, guys," Spike said in a sleepy manner as he found a spot not too far from Aurelia and fell asleep.  Ducky and Renn found a spot that was nearby and curled up with each other.

"Get a good night's sleep, sweetie.  It's been a long, hard day," Renn whispered before he nuzzled Ducky.

"I will try, yep yep yep," Ducky whispered as she nuzzled her mate back.  "Goodnight, dear," she whispered as she lowered her head to the ground and tried to fall asleep.

"Goodnight, sweetheart," Renn replied before he tried to fall asleep as well.

Thud fell asleep himself.

Rhett silently walked over to Ali and fell asleep about a foot away from her.

Cyrix continued to sleep soundly his thoughts of 'kidnapping' Longtail's hatchlings forgotten for the moment due to his need for sleep.

Sweetie flew in several circles in the air keeping a careful eye out for anything that might have been a threat to the herd. "I'm just glad I get to help out now." she said quietly as she scanned the area.

Pearl was flapping her wings quietly and keeping an eye on the herd itself and could see that Littlefoot was still awake. She landed next to him and whispered, "Are you alright? You should be asleep with the others."

Ruby however began to dream of the Great Valley before the incident and smiled in her sleep at the memories she was having.

Littlefoot glanced at Pearl. "I'm just worried about everybody, that's all. I'm worried for Longtail and Zaine. Their friendship might be threatened because of all of this, and I hate to see the two of them at each other's throats like this. They're brothers." He glanced at Ali, who was sleeping right next to him. "Then I worry about Ali. That must have been scary for her, getting separated like that. I don't want it to happen again, not to her or anybody for that matter."

(OOC: No excuse whatsoever for absence, sorry, still here!)

It had been weird, Kit pondered, how she'd felt a bit hesitant at first when Pearl took her own hatchlings back to sleep next to her, but then she'd been watching them so long during the trip she'd sort of gotten use to the babysitting duty.

She let Pearl cuddle up with her own young of course and merely settled down at her own spot, smiling at how even when it wasn't his duty to scout yet, Petrie took a sleeping position that afforded the best view over his friends and the others.

Kit thought it must have been because he was recalling how growing up their own parents had hardly seemed capable of traveling anywhere and having nothing bad happen to them and her cousin just wanted to make sure he was prepared for the worst.

Yet...so much had sort of gone wrong already, maybe they'd used up their 'bad stuff' tree star pile as it were...

(OCC since this seems to have dried up a bit I'm just going to take a plunge and assume the night went uneventfully)

"Cyrix, Cyrix, wake up.  The bright circle will be up any moment now, we have to get ready to wake everyone up and get going".  Cera said as she nudged Cyrix's sleeping form.

"Huh?" Aurelia said in a groggy fashion and lifted her head as she heard Cera speak.  She yawned and stretched out her stiff legs before she slowly got up.

"I guess I'll wake these two up," she said as she headed over to Renn and Ducky.  "Rise 'n shine, brightshine," she said as she gently nudged Renn.

"Hey, unless you're Ducky, don't call me 'brightshine'," Renn yawned with a chuckle as he slowly woke up.  Aurelia could not help but laugh, and Renn joined in on the laughter.  A few moments later, he turned his attention to Ducky, who was still sleeping soundly.

"Wake up, Ducky," he whispered as he gently shook Ducky.  She slowly woke up a few moments later.

"Huh?  What is going on?" Ducky asked in a sleepy manner.

"Looks like we're getting up now," Renn replied as he stood up and then helped Ducky stand up.  "Did you sleep well?"

"I guess so, yep yep yep," Ducky replied.  "How about you?"

"I sure did.  Yesterday took a toll on me indeed," Renn said before he gently nuzzled Ducky.  "But today is a new day.  Let's try to have a better day today."

"I will try, yep yep yep," Ducky replied before she looked at Spike.  "We must wake Spike up, yep yep yep."

"He sure is out cold," Renn said as the two approached Spike.  They tried to wake him up but to no avail.  Aurelia noticed this and came over.

"Need help?" she asked.  The couple nodded.

"Alrightie, then.  This looks like a task for a threehorn," Aurelia said as she went around ro Spike's back end.  She then poked her nasal horn rather firmly into Spike's hindquarters.

"Yeeeeeowwww!" Spike yelped as he jumped up out of his sleep.

"There.  All taken care of," Aurelia said.

Spike's yell was enough to startle Petrie awake too, "What happened? Are we being attacked?!" he glanced about before realizing since majority of everyone was asleep, everything was fine.

Kit laughed, "No, Aurelia down there seems to have used really creative and painful means to wake Spike".

"Oh" Petrie then noticed Cera nudging Cyrix awake and flew down there to see how hard he would be to wake and if she'd need help with that.

Meanwhile, over near where his mate, Azure was sleeping, Twiz cracked one eye open at all the noise but didn't fully get up yet.

Littlefoot yawned and opened his eyes. The day looked very weird for some reason, most likely because of the destruction around them. He glanced back to make sure Longtail was on his back, but of course the flyer had rolled off in his sleep. Littlefoot laughed a little. "Same old Longtail. Always falling off of something." He glanced over at Cyrix. The rainbowface had remained quiet the whole night, which eased Littlefoot's worries a little. I guess he was too tired to pull anything last night. Well that's good.

Zaine was already awake as he was on his shift for watching. He wasn't tired at all, in fact he was mostly alarmed. He wanted to make sure nothing was coming after the group, and luckily nothing came. "Good thing there were no more fights last night. We couldn't handle another one." He then looked on his back and smiled. Sweetie was curled up comfortably sleeping. "Wake up Sweetie," Zaine whispered. "The bright circle is in the sky."

Sweetie gently opened her eyes as she felt Zaine nudge her awake. She smiled as she asked, "Why the early wake up call cutie?"

Cyrix finally opened one of his eyes and stared at Cera for a moment before yawning aloud and stretching his limbs from their sleeping position. "I guess a few more minutes is too much to ask?" he commented with a light smile crossing his face.

Pearl was standing next to Longtail making sure he was okay from his fall earlier that night. She sighed in relief as she realized he wasn't hurt from the fall but frowned as she noticed the wound still crossing his face from his fight with Sweetie. "It's going to leave a scar...I just hope his vision isn't bad from it." she said with a sob.

It was at that moment that Longtail's eyes shot open and for several seconds he looked around franticly wondering where he was and how he had gotten here...but then his memories kicked in and he shuddered in response. He then groaned as his body felt stiff from not moving for such a long time. He slowly stretched his tail and wings, and then slowly stood up on his feet trying to balance his own weight.

He then looked around at the others present and gave a broad smile and laughed.
"This is going to be an interesting day...I can feel it."

"'fraid not, we have a very serious problem to deal with" Cera said.  "We need water, or I doubt any of us will last another day" She added, looking back to make sure her sister was waking up but still out of earshot.

Ali yawned loudly and slowly got to her paws.

Littlefoot nodded. "The water supply here lasted us for the night, but I don't think it's safe to drink in anymore. We should find another water supply and soon." He then glanced over at Ali who was just waking up as well. "Morning Ali. Sleep well?"

Zaine smiled. "It looks like we're moving out already." Then he noticed Longtail was awake. While Zaine was happy to see him up and well, he still felt very uneasy. What is he going to say when he sees me and Sweetie have become attached to each other? Zaine approached Longtail and nudged him a little. "You feel all right there Skippy?"

Longtail smiled but looked confused as he asked, "Skippy? Of all the names you could call me...that's the best you've got?"

Cyrix nodded in reply.
"That's seems to be the truth. We do need water, so...who's taking the lead today?" he asked as he stood to his full height, while stretching.

Pearl couldn't help but smile as she stepped over to face Littlefoot and asked, "So, what do we do about Zaine and Longtail's issues about Sweetie?"

(Not sure if you saw the discussion on this thread GVG, but if there's a problem with me bringing in the newly created character of Kit's little brother, Pip, and taking up atleast Dinah just let me know and I'll edit out)

Meanwhile, off away from this main group, two acquaintances were trying figure out how likely survival was as well.

Pip had talked his Uncle Trip into a...well of all things, trip, out to investigate a sleep time story like legend of a cave. Both having a twinge of curiosity about them the two just couldn't help themselves...then a happy adventure had turned sour when the world seemed to explode at once.

Trip had been killed and Pip had no idea who of the rest of his family or the Great Valley total was alive. He'd met one familiar face, in a similar position though, Cera's niece Dinah who had been around his age as well when she visited all those cold times ago and so he'd quickly made friends with her and Dana.

He'd only met back up with Dinah now though and she wouldn't talk about Dana, which told Pip all he needed to know.

So the two nearly teens were making the best way they could now to...whatever good this world might still have to offer.

"Remember, let me know if you see something interesting" Dinah called up to Pip who was the current scout for the two.

"Aw, I can't keep it to myself" Pip teased down with a smile. Dinah shot him a look such as her family was known for, but in kidding.

~~~~
Petrie had been staring at the water off of this depressing news, with a frown on his face to fit such news, when he was snapped back to the matter at hand by Cyrix's words.
He didn't realize he did it, but Petrie glanced over to Cera immedietly to see if she was gonna take up the initiative such as she did whenever Littlefoot wasn't the one leading.
~Ptyra coming aboard!~
I was not in the Valley when the disaster happened. I had brought some some of my flock (formerly my father's until a short time before his death) into the Mysterious Beyond for a time, since we all had the need to stretch our wings a distance larger than the Valley. I swear I'm the same age as my father when I hatched. Only I had the fortune of having fortune of having my husband Ron to help me lead the flock and look after our brood of four. There was Ronna, Terrie, Roland (after my husband's grandfather),  and Piper. Everything was so peaceful until it happened.
The female flier flew alone. Had her father felt this way when she disappeared in in a cloud of dust during the Great Earthshake?
There was a glow in the sky. Flying rocks flew everywhere. Then there was a  big one-a FALLING rock. I admit that I panicked and flew offf instinctively. My husband chased after me...and Ronna. Then they were gone. It wasn't until AFTER the Falling Rock fell that I felt guilt in abandoning my family and flock. My process of being like my father, like everyone thought, is complete.
She couldn't shake her guilt and greif. Why had she left them? She couldn't think of a reason. The last time she had heard her children's voices was calling after  her as she abandoned them. The last time she heard her husband was him shrieking for her.
I don't know if anyone is left. But I feel terrible for leaving them. Father had intrusted me with their saftey and I abandoned them all! My step-brothers, my half-siblings, their families, micsellanius followers, my husband and my babies!
She dropped on a ledge overlooking a canyon. There was somebody coming-more than one. Could it be her family?
My name is Ptyra. And like my father Pterano before me, I am a failure as a leader, a traitor and an indirect murderer.
"My feet hurt!" Dinah complained, when she wasn't in the best of moods the worst of her family traits came out, Pip had noticed, still she was loads more agreeable than Cera or Mr. Threehorn, Pip decided.
"Well we've tried the picking you up thing but that doesn't work" Pip said  to the other young pre-teen to early teens friend of his, trying for a bit of humor in their very very bad looking situation and when they both no idea if anyone they knew was still alive.
Dinah smiled a small bit.
"Hey look, I got a smile" Pip said, landing on a branch near her.
Dinah sighed, "Pip what are we gonna do, both off sight and news we both know that both our parents are...well...".
"Yeah..." Pip glanced to the side, "but I didn't hear about Kit, or anyone from my mom's side besides Uncle Trip, and off dad's side, well Petrie or even many of the others are unaccounted for, so...".
Dinah glanced over at Pip with a leveled, neutral expression. Pip sighed, "I'm pulling what hope I can, ok, and you still haven't heard about your grandfather or Cera or even younger Aunt Tricia".
Dinah sighed, "It just all sounds like false hope...I'm sorry you had to be  out here too".
"I'm not" Pip smiled, "if it means being here for you" he told one of the first of his peers he'd made a good friend of when they'd visited all those cold times ago back when they were both toddlers.
Dinah smiled, "You and your sister's eternal optimism", she then thought she spotted something ahead.
"H-Hello?" she called. Pip flapped up to try and get a better look at who or what it might be.
"I-I'm warning you..." Dinah called, "I got horns and I can use them".
"I don't think it's or they or whatever's a sharptooth" Pip said as he continued squinting to get a better look.
