So John, what did you think of Bluth's adaptation? According to you anyway, he didn't get it right.
Now when did I say that? I think you misunderstood one of my messages.
Anyways, I feel that the movie Bluth made was quite good. One of the darkest movies I have seen in the longest time. I feel that The Secret of Nimh is one of those movies that you can't see as an adaptation of a book, but rather a movie in it's own right.
The Secret of Nimh is VERY underrated because SO many people try to compare it to the book. It's not like the book, but it's own original movie. That's where it really shines.
With the first viewing, I was trying to wrap my head around the fact that this was a rated G movie. I mean, even a kid having a potty mouth would alert quite a few "mothers" out there, and how did they get away with the fight scene? I mean, seriously, there was blood, and I'm sure that alerted some parents too. Not to mention it's freaking dark! And it's still G rated? A part of me thinks Bluth, (or someone else on his team for that matter) paid those "Movie Raters" under the table to get that rating.
Anyways, despite those little things, it's a great film. I definitely see it as Don Bluth's best work, period. I hate to say it around here, but it's better than The Land Before Time. I would recommend that anyone out there to see the film if they get the chance.
Wait! You actually do have the chance to see it on the internet these days. Not just YouTube, but also at
Hulu of all places. (According to sources, the last week of May is when it was put up.) So, go ahead and watch it. Right now! Go! You'll love it, I promise!
Anyone who doesn't like it either likes the book too much, or they just simply don't know squat about classic animation.
At least, that's my opinion on the haters out there.
