Okay, what's wrong with my mouse?

The mouse for my desktop is acting up lately. It's only a minor issue, but it's got me concerned.

What it basically does is that it sometimes does the double-click function when I only click once. What is up with that?

Just to help out, here's my mouse:

It's a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 5000.

So, what is wrong with it? Why does it do this and how do I fix it?

Check out the settings. If you haven't used the install CD yet I'd install the software that came with it. Those Microsoft mice can be a bit picky. Also, check in the control panel to see if the feature that makes a single click act like a double click is enabled. I don't know if it still exists. The last time I used it was back in Windows 95, but I'm sure it's still there.

I've had the same problem before, although mine got even worse; sometimes not even registering the click at all, or triple clicking as well as double clicking. I think it even once quadruple clicked. o.O

I never could figure out what the problem was. It wasn't an issue with the settings; none of us messed with the settings. In the end, we had to get another mouse entirely. That's probably what you'll end up having to do.

Next time stick with either HP or Logitech brand wireless keyboard/mouse sets. No hassle or stupid software to install and they work forever. I've only had one wireless keyboard/mouse set fail on me that was Logitech and it was just a key. I've had plenty of Microsoft brand keyboard/mouse sets fail on me though. Acer's aren't very good either.

It was a Logitech mouse that was having the issues, actually.

Well, after a little look in the Settings proving useless, I popped in the disc and installed the thing. It works properly now. Thanks!

I was going to joke around and say you didn't feed it this morning, but I think quite literally that was the problem.

(only you fed it its software and now it behaves)

FYI. I found with my last laser wireless that my speakers if they were too close, interfered with the RF signal, causing a click to not register or it to double click. Make sure the mouse and wireless signal box aren't too far from each other or speakers are in the way.
