Though a part of him worried that he would be unable to return home, he was elated. He had always wanted to know what it was like to be a different kind of creature, and he had the luck to have become one that particularly fascinated him.
It then occurred to him that, even though he had become a dinosaur, he was still speaking English. “Or maybe I’m just hearing English in my head,” he considered.
Then another thought struck him. “Hey, if I’m in prehistoric times, there must be other dinosaurs around!” He grinned and clenched his fists as he jumped up and down ecstatically. “Yes! Yes! Yes! I get to see dinosaurs! Live ones!”
Suddenly an ear-splitting shriek caused him to jump to about the level of his own height, freezing in place upon returning to the ground. Regardless of the drastic change his body had undergone, he was still as high-strung and panicky as ever. Slowly turning his head to look over his shoulder, he saw his first dinosaur stride into view from behind a rock formation.
It was a large blue biped, with small, wickedly clawed forearms, long, pointed jaws packed with sharp white fangs, and giant hooked claws on both its feet. He recognized it immediately. “A raptor,” he murmured, half in awe and half in terror.
It was far bigger than he would expect a raptor to be, but considering that his own size had probably changed along with his body, he realized he had no sense of scale in this world. Perhaps his new body was simply very small, and as a result the raptor appeared far larger to him than it would if he was a human.
He noticed that the raptor looked and sounded an awful lot like Screech, a character from his favorite animated movie and television series: The Land Before Time. “But that’s impossible,” he thought, “...isn’t it?” In any case, it didn’t matter. The raptor had noticed him. Snarling hungrily, it began to charge towards him.
“What a day to get my wish,” he muttered, before turning to run.
