The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Awkward was the least of it... a rumor spread about a horse showing up... one female told another that she saw a walking horse... that female told another that there was a comment made about the horse hanging something. This was told to another female dracon who knew what that meant, and said that a horse showed up with it's privates exposed... this led to the rumor of a horse mating with a dancer... which later ballooned into a rumor of a pregnancy of a bizarre half-horse, half-dracon...

And it would take only a day for these rumors to spread.  :slap

The palace was a gigantic limestone structure, with gardens, statues, and fountains within its walls. The doors of the gates were made of bronze, and were over 15 meters high. Each part of the door had an engraving on it, recounting some part of Dracon history; it was a full time line of the major events of their race going from their creation at the top to recent events at the bottom. Some space was left on the doors for new events, if there was time for them.

The gates alone were a great treasure, but inside... the words "luxury", "opulent", and "magnificent" could not do it justice... and this was not even the largest or fanciest palace in the city; THAT belonged to Minbenthac's king. The marble statues in the gardens alone numbered over 200, plus another 50 bronze ones... not including another several hundred in the palace's interior...

Minna had a room in the palace, in spite of having been given a palace all her own, although, like all female Dracons, she didn't own it, as females could not own land. Her father was in a rare class of super-rich nobles. He owned many estates, managed much valuable farmland at oases and along rivers, possessed mines and quarries, and even made money off of loans he made personally... in addition to his stake in Minbenthec's bank.

Above all, he was a shrewd businessman; his wealth was so great that even the opulence he had was the result of less spending proportionally than most other wealthy Dracons, including the king of Minbenthac! He did, however, grant his children good deal of money, so it cannot be said he was not generous... to an extent.

_
As is yours apparently Minna replied.. "Your caravan sure indicated a high degree of wealth..  You came here too train?'
- Yes I am a sorceress as I have told you.. I guess we;'ll be studying together ..?' Ilsa asked. Minna nodded .. "Along with a few other nobes, I particularly have my eye on Lord Margas' She giggled.

Another ceiling in the palace had an intricate pattern to it. This one was made in a geometric style, and was quite elaborate.

"So you heading back?" the draft animal asked.

"Probably going to stay the night." Torvin replied. He entered a small but respectable looking inn. He was carrying his precious metals and coins with him.

"Hello, I am looking for a place to stay the night." Torvin said to the Dracon proprietor.

"Sure thing. We have plenty of rooms. What kind of room do you want? We have rooms in three classes; basic, normal, and elite." The inn owner said. "Basic is just a small room with free cleaning services. Normal costs more, gives you a larger room and three meals a day. Elite costs the most but gives you the best room, all the meals you can eat, and a range of extra services. Entertainment in the common room is free for all rooms, as is laundry service."

Pausing to take a breath, the owner continued. His red eyes gave away no indication of whether or not he approved of a non-Dracon staying in his hotel, but since he was willing to give Torvin a list of amenities, he couldn't have been totally biased.

"The basic room costs two silver pieces per night. The normal room costs five silver pieces a night. The elite room costs two gold pieces per night. Drinks cost extra in all cases, but we have free refills for ale during certain times of the night."

Meanwhile...

Ophion's daughter, Kria, read through one of her books on demons:

"There are many kinds of extraplanar creatures in the multiverse. In the lower planes, as in the upper ones, there are three main divisions between lawful, neutral, and chaotic beings. All three are brought together in hell proper, although three divisions constantly struggle with each other and themselves for primacy. So far, none of the three have been able to gain an advantage over the other two, and scholars believe it will be like this for quite some time."

This was not the typical codex she normally read; it was "borrowed" from the stock in the magic shop. Her father would be very angry to learn that she was reading through a tome intended for mages who specialize in studying and controlling demons, not the general public.

After reading some highly technical notes about the "scientific" magic about how demons operate, Kria found another passage written in draconic that she could read.
The following passage was false, and red letters saying "not true" were over the following page, and several passages were underlined in

"To superstitious minds, such as those in the field of divine magic, demonology is a dark art, but to those of sufficient intellect and will, it is a most useful tool for ones ends..."

The rest of the passage went on to describe the position of the author of the book in regards to cosmology:

"In the beginning was nothing but a single consciousness. This primordial awareness had no content, as there was nothing in existence of which to be aware. It existed in a timeless, thoughtless state. This consciousness split itself in two. The reasons given are various - desire for companionship, curiosity about itself, or just plain boredom.

The two minds, one male and one female, interacted creating a pantheon of deities known as aeons, who inhabited a divine realm of light known as the "Pleroma".
The most distant aeon from the Source, named Sophia, fell into error. Some myths say that she tried to emanate a universe without her male counterpart, others say that she tried to take on the mind of the Source in its entirety. Whatever the reason, she fell out of communion with the rest of the aeons and became trapped in the primordial material universe.

From the matter that solidified out of her divine power, she created an overseer to guide and direct the evolution of the material universe, known as the Demiurge or Yaltabaoth. The world of matter and its laws is governed by this Demiurge who mistakenly believes himself to be the absolute God.

Living creatures are spirits, sparks of divine light from the Pleroma, who are trapped in the material universe and who must endeavor to free themselves and their kin from the shackles of matter. Some versions of the creation myth say the Demiurge originally created soulless creatures out of matter, and that Sophia took pity on them and breathed sparks from the Pleroma into them, only to have the sparks become trapped in the material bodies. The Demiurge, and his created servants the Archons, manipulate sentient beings into violence and misery to feed themselves and further their egotistical projects."

Every major religion, Dracon or otherwise, rejected these teachings on the grounds of its contradictory nature, needlessly complicated system, and the fact that if the material world were indeed a "mistake" or a "prison", one ought to kill oneself to be free of it. Puzzled by this, Kria nevertheless was comforted by the idea that nothing in this precluded contact with demons as a legitimate means of gaining magical powers...

Kria shut the book. She had enough confusing philosophy for one day, and she couldn't even begin to understand the complex magical formulas she had read. Closing the book, she had recalled that being a warlock meant she wouldn't have to learn any of the technical aspects of magic; her power would be granted to her, not studied for.

"Alright. A basic room it is" The innkeeper said, taking the money. "Your room is on the second floor, down the hall. It is the door with a carving of intertwined dragons over it. Can't miss it. You also get the basic services along with it; entertainment in the common room, free cleaning, and some basic comforts."

Halo, Shiana, and Youri soon returned to Ophion's shop.  Halo had mentioned that the ship will come late tomorrow, and he would need some glowing stones for some adventures.

"We'll be back at the inn," Shiana replied, then she and Youri walked away.

The air gensai re-entered the store...

Aurescia was on duty at the store at the moment; her husband was busy doing some magical research. All in a day's work.

"Can I help you fine people?" the sorceress asked, giving a wide Dracon smile that would have been interpreted by many as a threat, given her bared fangs.

"Yes, I recognize you." Aurescia replied. "Most of the customers are Dracon, so you can imagine how much you stand out. What would you like now? We've got a special two-for-one sale on poison cures this week..."

(OOC:  The others left for the inn.  Halo's the only one.)

"Actually, your husband had mentioned earlier about glowing stones," Halo replied, "And after some thought, I've decided to purchase a few while there's time.  Our ship arrives and leaves tomorrow."

Jake finished up his meal. He paid the Dracon and he left 3 silver coins as a tip. Jake got up from his stool and he headed towards the stairs. Jake walked up the stairs and down the hall to his room. He walked inside and noticed that--

Torvin nodded and headed up to the second floor. He placed his sack of gold under the bed, washed up and sat on the bed.

The room was lit with a single candle on the dresser. The room was simple but clean and tastefully decorated. A plain but beautiful rug covered the polished wood floor.

(OOC: This is the first music to be put in this RP, please tell me what you think in an OOC. Thanks. Note that it is not mine, but is linked to a site.)

-- and Jake saw that his room had graffiti on the wall. Some nasty writing in Draconic was written in black ink...

Meanwhile...

Soft music could be heard coming from the common room of the inn, common to many such Dracon inns. Torvin heard it faintly from his room...
