The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Please, No One Click On This Ad......

Please people, if you see this ad here on GOF or anywhere else, DO NOT click on it:

I haven't checked it out myself but it looks like a phony piece of crap.  Just look at even the TM logo and the unprofessional style of the ad itself.  But what really got me is this statement:

"PC Startup & Shutdown In 2 Seconds"

Okay, first of all that's impossible.  Even my super master takes a good 20 seconds and not many on this forum can beat my computer.  Unless their super speed-up tool is a "sleep" button, there is no way your computer can shut down and start up in 2 seconds.

Just stick away from it.  It's either some company trying to steal your money or a big virus infected piece of crap.  Or it could just be a group of hackers who have set up a very nice looking website and steal your credit card information once you pay them for their "miracle software".  Hopefully they'll be found out and banned from Invision soon enough.

Thanks for the warning.  I hope it helps some to avoid crooked deals.

Seems your hunch was right. I looked up PC Optimizer Pro and Web of Trust labels it as a dangerous site.

It is best not click any adds.  One of the things I like about not seeing any ads using firefox.  But as I mentioned above thanks, it may help some folks who do see ads.

Thanks to a program called adblock plus (recommended to me by Iris) I don't get any adds on the GOF at all anymore. Since I never had any problems whatsoever with that program it may be worth for other firefox users to consider. Here is a link if you want to take a look.
I felt compelled to install it after these annoying kind of adds appeared which apart from the image also involved sound.
