So, for months and months and MONTHS on end, I've been working on a fanfiction for The Animals of Farthing Wood. I'm getting to the 'closing point' where I can start posting it. HOWEVER...

Ever since yesterday and today, this is the message I have been getting (I did manage to get it up SOMETIMES yesterday, but not at all today)

It hasn't done this until recently. Other than that, it came up just fine.

I'm getting very close to finishing this story. I would HATE having to re-start it (even though I sent it to someone for revision), so would someone PLEASE offer me some tokens of help?

Hmm. The only time this has happened to me is if I read the document off of a flashdrive, and then ejected the flash drive without saving the document. Since you sent it to a friend for revision, it's possible you're clicking on the fast link to the sent version, which might not be locatable. Instead of clicking on it from the Word start up screen, find your document the long way (i.e. file->open->AOFW) and see if that works.

The only thing I can come up with is try downloading OpenOffice (free applicant that can read .doc files) and see if you have any better luck with that program.

That's usually how I do it. I go straight to the file where it is stored. Sometimes I load it from Word, but not all the time.

Here's something else that might be helpful

The others have the 'kind' of Word, but that particular file (and a few others) don't.

If all docx files won't open... Do you have word 2007?

The "author" piece depends on if the user's computer set up Microsoft Word to have a name inserted with every file they create.  Like any file I create on my laptop at home in Word has my name on it as its author.

I actually have no clue why you're running into this problem.  The only thing I can fathom is you're running Word 2003 with a compatability pack to read Word 2007 documents (the .docx files).  That could cause an issue, but I don't have answers. Sorry. :(  LBT had the other thing I've seen--you have removable media and its no longer inserted, but if that isn't the issue, I'm a bit stuck.
