The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Fun quiz: Are you a Yankee or a Rebel?

No I'm not being discriminatory...that's what the test is called. ^^

http://www.alphadictionary.com/articles/yankeetest.html

And my result: 39% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee. (well gee I hope so, I live in their state!  :lol: )

Just some of my responses that certainly were isolated to the Northeast:

Quote
How do you pronounce the second syllable in pajamas?

    * Rhymes with jam

How do you pronounce "route"?

    * Rhymes with root

How do you address a group of people?

    * You(se) guys

What's the tiny lobster that crawls around in creek bottoms?

    * Crayfish

What do you call gym shoes?

    * Sneakers

Where might you get water in a public building?

    * Drinking fountain

What is that bubbly carbonated drink called?

    * Soda

The rest of my responses were pretty much "common throughout US".  The only one where I was labeled dixie was the "cot" "caught" one since I do pronounce those differently. ^^

My result:
Quote
30% Dixie. You are a Yankee Doodle Dandy.
:lol:
Not too much of a surprise with my Minnesota exchange and possible influences from British English. In a few cases I had to "guess" what I would call it having never seen anything like what was described in the text. Why would anyone throw toilet paper over a house?
I need to give the url to my American English professor (who is by birth a rebel (born in Virginia and in fact a descendant of R. E. Lee) can talk about every single American accent + British English + almost perfect German).

44% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.

When I first saw this site I thought it was about the New York Yankees the baseball team. I watch too much TV.

I got 71% Dixie! :P: Hey, I live in alabama!  What do you expect?  I think I use good grammar.  My spelling just sucks!  My mom came from Georgia and my dad from Virginia.  I know some people who would have gotten 100% Dixie on the test.
(I went back and got 100% just to see what it said.  100% Dixie!  Was General Lee your grndfather? :lol:  :lol )  Hey, I ain't no redneck! (says it with a DEEP SOUTH accent.) :lol  :lol   It told me that my neck was probably slightly pink! :lol

Speaking of being related to General Lee... *raises hand tentatively* ...I am actually related to him.

To Malte:Distantly. My Great Mother was the daughter of a cousin (I don't know how far removed) of his.

To pokerplayer: That's still more Yankee than my mother (though a whole less than my father). They're visiting for the week, and on whim I had them take the test. She got a 48%. My dad got a 12%.  :lol:

This isn't really that accurate because some responses there was more than one answer I could have given, and at least two I didn't know at all so I had to guess.

I got 55% dixie, barely in dixie.  I guess partly since I grew up in a large city, even though I've only lived in Texas, that and perhaps since I try to speak correct English.

I believe the proper term would be Union or Confederate  :rolleyes:

44% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.

I guess Confederate  :rolleyes: . But I still have my Union values; no slavery, for example. Of course, there's a lot of them.

My youngest brother would go nuts  :lol: ! He's a Civil War buff (wanna know how far? He tried to read the Personal Memories of Ulusses S. Grant  :rolleyes: ). But then, I am very distantly related to one of John Adam's siblings  :P:
