Pennsylvania pics

Nobody really knew about it, but I came back from vacation a couple of weeks ago. We went to Circle-M in Lancaster, PA, and I thought I would share a few pictures I took while there.

Here's just a sunny day at the resort

I thought this little area looked picturesque:p

Here's a close-up shot of a flower I took

And a very shiny red camaro

An Amish house out in Amish country

I forget what this place is exactly, but it is also out in Amish country

I forget the name of this spider. I looked it up, but didn't write it down.

I've been to Lancaster before, to visit the Amish Country.

Whoa, nice photos! The first three pictures look good, but I LOVE the one of the landscape you described as “picturesque”. That's gorgeous.

I love the one of the flower, too, and the spider and butterfly pictures.

The spider is a female golden orb weaver, or black-and-yellow garden spider (Argiope aurantia). Not so sure about the butterfly, but I do know it's not a monarch. Looks a lot like a painted lady butterfly or some kind of fritillary to me. I've got a big book on butterflies somewhere. Maybe I'll take a look at that and get back to you later.

Well, I looked at my butterfly book, but couldn't find a picture matching the butterfly in your photo. However, I did some research online, and based on the orange-ringed eyespots on its forewings, your butterfly is most likely a hackberry emperor (Asterocampa celtis).

Pennsylvania is another one of those US states which rank very high on my to do (that is to visit) list for its history and for the fact that a GOF member lives there whom I really hope to meet in real life some day

These are really beautiful pictures Jeff. You know, you have so much of an eye for beautiful motives which others might overlook that I'm wondering if you could find a profession that would benefit from this talent.

Pennsylvania is a wonderful place. If you visit, make sure to visit the Great Valley, Pennsylvania. I live there, and I just love this place. Plus, it's really close to Valley Forge, and I sometimes go biking there.

I really liked the Amish photos, Jeff. Did you try a shoe fly pie? Those things are awesome!

Ah, Valley Forge

Back in 2007 the historical national park there was one of the places I considered for an internship. The internship never came to pass, but I must also admit that Valley Forge would not have been my final pick among the national parks because by the sound of it I got the impression that internees there would have to go through much of what Washington's men had to go through without any of the benefits (e.g. board, lodging, a little pocket money) provided by some other national parks for their internees

And in addition to Valley Forge, we're also really close to the Paoli Massacre and the Battle of Brandywine. Although I usually prefer history of the eastern world, having all these historical relics to look back upon really makes me happy.

They have some replicas of canons and lodges, and they sometimes even have reenactors. They've also got at RC aircraft field nearby, so that's also really cool. The only downside is that there's a lot of ticks in the brushes.

Thanks guys. Yea we stayed there for a week, so I had plenty of time on my hands. I really enjoyed just walking around the resort taking pictures of things.

And looking at the Hackberry Emperor butterfly you mentioned Pangaea, it does seem to closely resemble the one I took a picture of.

Well I am not so sure about that

I really never thought about finding a profession in something like this. I just see things that I think would make for a good picture and I snap them

Also I forgot to mention that we did drive through the Pocono Mountains on our way there and back. It was really awesome, but unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of it. Oh well, maybe next time.
