Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part one

Right before I start off the actual thread, I'm posting a warning to those who haven't seen the film as of yet to not continue any further, I don't want to spoil the film for you but I can't be held responsible if you read the thread and then feel that spoilers have ruined it for you. So I'm asking that if you have as of yet not seen the movie, then please do not read any further.

Thanks, not trying to be rude in this regard but I know what it is like for someone to post spoilers up with no warning and then it's just followed by sheer disappointment.

Again, please don't read if you haven't seen the film and want to.

I'm suprised that there hasn't been a thread for this yet.

Anyway, I thought I'll take the liberty to do so first.

Now, I actually saw the movie on the 19th with my mother and sister. For someone who has read all books from the series, I actually found that compared to the previous films (POA in particular) this film seemed to be much more loyal to the book, although by saying that there were some scenes in which I found it to be lacking or slow. There are scenes that I felt to have been rushed, especially the part in which the explanation of R.A.B and scenes when I was like '?', what with the death of Moody and the just random explanation that Bill gives. I know that in the DH book that it's rather similar with Moody randomly dying but at least we get an explanation from Bill of what happened not ''Mad-eye is dead''...

Then the scene with Hedwig at the beginning. I was so convinced that they had diverted from the book and decided not to kill her, alas, that was not so. However, despite my little dissapoinment, I felt her death was much more satisfactory in the way that on her own accord she tried to defend Harry.

However, despite the factor that I was continuously waiting for the part in which the film would be split, from the basis of what my sister and mum said (both have not read the books), I did feel that for those who haven't read the books the story was explained much better than it has been done previously, it's the first time in which my sister fully got what was happening without me having to explain aspects to her.

Anyway, I think I've rambled a bit too much on it....sorry about that. For those who have seen the movie, what did you think of it? Are you looking forward for the second part?

Hey Saft!

Ahh Harry Potter. A movie I had been looking forward to for a long time now. It's only about waiting for the final part now. Although I heard that J.K. Wanted to possibly write more books regarding harry potter???

I saw it on the opening night in The Netherlands (nov. 17). In my opinion it was a great movie with a lot of details correct if you look at it from reading the book. The special effects were really well done and several scenes were acted out so great that they made me have goosebumps. My favorite scene? Most likely the one where Ron has to destroy the Horcrux. The acting in that whole scene is just immense.

Ah, yest THAT scene was pretty awesome. I do have to admit, I thought he would for some reason kill Harry (I know he wouldn't and doesn't) out of jealous rage.

Speaking out of interest, do you have any expectations for the second half? Anything that you like to see?

I would love to see them doing as much as a great job on the 2nd part as they did on the first. I remember from the book that I read about Snape's confession about 10 times (that chapter), so they better have that be a great part in the movie as well

I found this one was pretty good compared to the pretty bad preceding Harry Potter movies. Perhaps they ought to have started bringing them out in two movies per book rather than one from the beginning rather than cutting out half of the story in the earlier movies. The movie had some very good emotional scenes, good acting, a less cut up story and (unlike preceding movies) didn't waste sparse time on spectacular but pointless scenes not included in the books.
I was surprised at how much of the book was covered by this movie already. Maybe the second part will be somewhat focused on action scenes (during the battle of Hogwarts) in order to fill the time. But I'm looking forward to it anyway.
Maybe we can watch that one together again with Tim and maybe some other GOF friends this summer Iris?

Iris; Oh yeah definetly! If they don't have Snape's confession correct or ommit Molly's line I'll cry.

So general question again, would you say that this Director (David Yates) is much more prefered (sorry Malte, I know you don't like superlatives) compared to his predecessors in the fact that he's tried to keep the story line together and filled up gaps as best he could that were part of a dubious plot hole in the previous films?

Film needs to be renamed "Harry Potter and the Camping Adventure"

I must admit, the scene with Ron Destroying the Horcrux was pretty nice, even though that ONE scene made me feel akward (And if you saw the film, you know what i mean)

The part where Hermione tells the tale of the Deathly Hallows with its styled animation was just beautiful.

I just wish they expanded more on the begining scenes. It just seemed bery rushed in my opinion. Plus, they needed to expand on Krecher because he played major roles in all the books past #5
