She is an immortal. She may see that as a small thing & a way to pass the time and have some fun. Being immortal she may not see things in the same way that non immortals do.

She only manipulations in the entire series were at the beginning in bringing the Elements of Harmony together, but in doing so, she freed her sister from her own madness, got her student out of the library and amongst real friends for the first time in her life, and ended an ongoing threat to the ponies of Equestria all in a single night and made the lives of all involved better. These are not the actions of a wicked being.
Seriously, this is along the same lines of something Gandalf would pull, yet Tolkien fans don't go around pushing the idea that h'e s some kind of cruel entity.

Sorry if I came on too strong, it's just that I like Celestia, yet I can't go anywhere in the fandom without the idea that she's some kind of sadist or Tyrant creeping into the discussion. I'm seriously just growing very tired of it, so if everyone was just kidding, I'm sorry.

I see, though the whole situation with Philomena the Phoenix would be more of an emotional attack on Fluttershy than a mere prank had it been what she had in mind fromt he start.

I'm not 100% sure what her intentions were with that episode. However, I give that little thought due to one thing that gets under my skin far more.

Come on! If you want to make a good episode that involves death, don't cheapen it out like that.

Yeah, I'm more upset at the writers there than anything else. You don't mess with death, bottom line.
