The PS3 just sold. Originally, I thought, 'Wow, good news for them', but then I found out that the stores only had about five-ten PS3's each. WTF?! That's a success? Despite the large demand, hold out on your customers,. Yeah, that'll do it! This way they'll just buy the Nintendo Wii, instead, and for a much lower price, which will be sold in large numbers in every store. Oh, and I've also already seen PS3's on eBay.

Oh yeah, Nintendo has PS and X-Box licked this time around. The Nintendo Wii is the only system I'm buying just because I like the system. If I buy the PS3 or X-Box 360, its because there's a specific game that I would so much that I'm willing to buy a new system or two to play it.

To be honest Weirdraptor, I think this is an intentional ploy. They are deliberately not supplying enough consoles to meet demand so to INCREASE the already blistering demand there is for the console already. In doing so, they can keep supplying few units and keep that demand up. It ensures more people keep trying again and again to get one and at the extortionate rate they're at. If you have something in demand, people will go to great lengths to get that product no matter what the price tag. "Fashion over common sense" I think the saying goes. Coz if we were to wait and demand would drop, so will the price because the company would then see that no one wants their product and the easiest way to induce interest is to slash the price.

For me, with the gaming series that I've come to love are mostly PS exclusives. In light of that, I will be getting a PS3 (not anytime soon though) but with my undying love for the newly made retro characters, the Wii will also be finding a place in my home too. But with my current financial situation, I wont be getting either for a while. I can wait... :^.^:

I see a connection between the PS3 launch and the 360 launch.  They had a rediculous shortage of Xbox 360s when it first launched and many people were pissed that most of them wouldn't get their treasured 360s until January or February 2006.  Most gamers who are hardcore Xbox fans wanted to hang Bill Gates for it.  And to let you know, I'm not one of those gamers.  I just heard the opinions from other gamers and that's what most of them sounded like.  Hell, I don't even own an Xbox.  All of the current titles I try to find on the PC.

WR, what you saw on eBay is most likely a fake.  First off, it is still too early.  I've known eBay to not get the real deal stuff until the true release date at the earliest.  This is most likely a scamer's idea to get rich.  And sadly, someone will be stupid and fall for it.

Popular games and gaming systems have been scamed like this before.  When it comes to games, the crook goes as far as taking a pic they found on the net and pasting it onto another, not so popular, game.

Here's my suspicion of what the person who is selling this supposed PS3 basically did.

There are plenty of pics of the PS3 in various magazines and on the net.  Showing a picture of the real deal is far too easy to do. (Which is sadly all you need to sell something on eBay.)

Now, those that fall for it will either get some other gaming console, probably something like a Game Boy, or worst possible scenario, get nothing.  Being completely scamed out of so much cash, and nothing to be done about it.

These kind of things are well known.  Sadly, there are still people that will fall for it.  The scamers at hand know people will fall for it and end up getting a bunch of cash.

Until the real deal comes out, don't even think of bidding on it.  You'll be scammed far too easily.

If they were the only console in town, it'd work, but the Nintendo Wii will be released for cheaper, and in larger numbers, so if they can't get the PS3, they'll just get something else, instead. So, while they're holding out on their customers, Nintendo will already be making big profits. In al honestly, the majority of the fans of X-Box and PS are just casual gamers, who will just buy what's cheapest and what's out there conveniantly(in this case, the Nintendo Wii on the cheaper account, and will soon be the more conveniant one).

I don't know much about business, but I assume that whether this ploy is stupid or not depends on how you look at it.

I don't believe that. I think most people would want to buy cheaper games for any system, doesn't matter of it's a Nintendo system, or Playstation system, or X-Box system.

It's all economics.  It will work since its not like all the games out there can be played on the Big 3 systems interchangably....then it would fail in that case.

In the long run, holding out on your customers has never been a wise decision. If they can't afford if and/or can't even find one, themselves, then they'll just go a friend's house, or buy, it illegally, where the guy who is selling lots of consoles will get the big business.

You can ignore the facts all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that Nintendo has the monopoly on loyal gamers, who are, unfortunately, the minority of the population of gamers.

That's only an intelligent ploy if you have no competition to worry about. In this case, PS3 has both X-Box 360 and a HUGE release for the Nintendo Wii to contend with. Holding out on their customers and raising the pirce will only cause them to go buy something else that's both available and in supply.

It's all economics. It will work since its not like all the games out there can be played on the Big 3 systems interchangably....then it would fail in that case.

That would hold water if PS had more than 15 loyal gamers worldwide.

I only defended the PS because I was offended by what you said about the fans of that system along with X-Box. It's not fact. It's just opinion. And loyal gamers are not exclusive to the Nintendo.

I don't have a lot of time for a detailed post (Lab report and exam tomorrow!) but,
I doubt that there are very many true 'fanboys' out there, despite the persistant comments about fanboyism on the Internet.  Many gamers can have some respect for all game systems, though they may prefer one over the other.

Nintendo seems to have the closest thing to casual games that still exist these days.  I'm a casual gamer.  I like Nintendo for this reason: Great multiplayer games!  I also like the competing systems enough that I own both of them (X-Box and PS2) as well.

I think it comes down to this:
Gamers want the system that has the games they want to play.  A family of 5 isn't going to buy a tiny car just because the SUV is out of stock.  They'll wait for an SUV, look for a used one, or find some other way to get one.  The tiny car just isn't what they are looking for.

I know this isn't a very fair comparison since there are many more vehicles than game systems to choose from, and some games are available on all major systems (and even PC).  My point is simple: if a gamer wants it bad enough, they won't settle for something that isn't what they want.

casual gamers won't want to upgrade as badly.  I don't plan on getting a PS3 or X-Box 360 anytime soon.  I also don't know if I'll be getting a Wii either.  This is because my gamecube, PS2, and X-Box still meet my needs as a casual gamer.

No, its a fact. I've spoken with thousands and thousands of PS and X-Box fans, and none of them could justifiably be called 'loyal gamers' in any sense of the word. Nintendo fans, on the other hand, I've spoken to just as many, and the result was the polar opposite. I have a conclusion that has been tested and trialed through mant conversations and proven true time and again.

I still refuse to believe that Nintendo fans are any different than PS or X-Box fans. To me, a gamer cannot be judged by the system, but by the gamer themselves.

I used to think that, then I noticed that Nintendo fans are most often, a lot more mature than the fans of the other two systems. Its a easy to like a system whose mascot is a shapey woman in tiny shorts and Triple-D Cup Size Breasts, but to a system with a plumber as their mascot...not as wasy to live with.

Anyway, I don't have anything against Nintendo fans. I don't believe fans to one console are more mature than another, however. Though in some aspect, I suppose you are right. I see a lot more M rated games on a PS or X-Box than Nintendo. o_O; But then again, I can't be too sure because I don't know most of the games for each system. So I can be wrong.

Well, yeah PS and X-Box do have a lot more M-Rated games. they think that they need to have gallons and of blood and bordorline porno in most of their games to sell, which, they are, unfortunately, right, which is a part of where I get my conclusion.

Nintendo has a few games like that, but not a whole lot.

I never played the first Mario game, though I have played all 3 Super Mario Brothers, Mario Paint, and the first Super Mario World. We do have Mario...I forget what it's called...It's on Gamecube, and it's where Mario has to clean up the town and there's a doppleganger there...
