Stripetail nodded. "you need not worry about mind control with me or Tarrax Captain, we both are very well trained against the threat of mind control. first off mind control can be countered by sufficient magical power, or sheer willpower. no one has dared to try to control our minds for centuries, and there are very few beings who are magically powerful enough to attempt it. the duke was powerful enough to control you, but he isn't strong enough to control me or tarrax. Believe me, hes tried, in fact he was the last one to try it and it backfired on him badly. if someone tries to control someone else magically and fails there is a magical price to be paid. he knows me well enough by now to not try that again. so at least on that score you needn't worry. since most of the creatures here are not magical, the focus in terms of defense should be on willpower, having a strong enough control over ones mind and thoughts to block out all but the strongest wills. i don't believe myself in messing with the minds of others, it can get very very messy if you try. ones personal thoughts and ideas are their own, and should stay that way. now' Stripetail said, digging out a book that read ' Strengthening the mind- resisting the control of others' ' this book is primarily for magic users though chapter 5 should be useful for non-magic users. to block the mind from being controlled there are three kinds of defenses ' the vacuum' defense, which involves clearing your mind completely of thought. this is difficult to achieve, usually taking hours of meditation beforehand. its difficult because most creatures are always thinking about something at some point. mind control requires latching on to some thought or idea inside the mind, if there's nothing going on 'upstairs', there's nothing to latch on to. the second is called the 'wall defense ' where the person projects an image of a wall in their minds, focusing solely on that image. like the first defense it takes time, because focusing on one person or thing takes concentration, as again , most persons are thinking about several things at any given time. the third and final defense, is the 'armor defense' which like the second defense involves picturing the appearance of a single object, in this case a suit of armor. ' in this case however, the armor does not appear solely in your mind, your ' armor' wraps itself around you, and protects you from attack. all 3 defenses require great concentration, the stronger your will is, the stronger your mental defenses will be. having a keen mind helps... intelligence allows you to either clear your mind or focus on creating the other defenses quickly..' stripetail finished.
