The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

The program you use should not really influence on how good your work looks like, Scrattelover :) Sky is just awesomely advanced with photoshop, at least to the point where he needs it :D

As I said, this is great work Sky! :D

Hello:
Wow, that image is just great! the colors are a perfect match, not only because of the characters' colors but also because it looks great due to the ambient light.
Keep up the amazing work Sky!.

Wow, Sky. Just wow. :wow :wow :wow

This picture is fantastic. The lighting is incredible, the detail is astounding, the colors are gorgeous, and the characters look next to perfect. Its awesomeness is so blinding that can't see the flaws, if there are any. :P: Well, maybe the mountains look a little odd, what with their zigzaggy lines and the fact that they're such a different color from the rocks. And maybe Littlefoot's lower jaw and snout look a tiny bit thin and large, respectively (though I should have seen that earlier :slap). But I'm seriously struggling here. :p

I didn't expect the sky would be this color. I thought that it would be a daytime scene with the sky colored blue. But this blew me away. Are they watching the sunset, perhaps? That would seem very fitting. And Littlefoot's cloud mother looks much better here with the smoother outline, especially with the lighting giving her more depth. She seems more detailed as well. I just noticed that I can faintly see the shape of her limbs. And maybe it's just me, but I think the ridge along her back, too. :!

This is truly a masterpiece. Well done, Sky. :yes

'One Longneck Family' is probably my best LBT artwork yet!  :DD

Well, I think it's time for something new (...or not :p)

The colored version of my Mo sketch for pokeplayer's first contest. :)
It seems only fair to finish this. ^^ Colored with my brandnew tablet pc! <3

Hmm... I just noticed it looks a little pixelated (especially the jellyfishes). The picture preview of Windows7 is different than from XP (I use it to 'shrink' images down to a particular size). Now it makes my pictures pixelated... D: Is there a way to 'install' the old picture preview from XP to 7? Or at least an alternative?

Wow so you finally bought that tablet PC you've been on about? Congradulations I hope you some really neat stuff with it!  Speaking of neat stuff, I really like the water reflection in this picture.  I hope this means you are going to be back and drawing again for a little while as you have been keenly missed :)

Caustizer.

Hello:
That is a nice pic, I really liked it and I must say that the underwater background could be refreshing (pun not intended :smile ), but I mean that it helps you get new ideas or to get extra inspiration for your projects.
 Keep it up!

Thank you all!
And yes, I do hope to draw more in the future with my tablet pc. It's great to draw on! ;)

@Mumbling
When you simply double-click on a picture, a window will open. It's called the "Windows Bild- und Faxanzeige" in german. I don't know the english term of it. XP
But nevermind, I'm using IrfanView now and fulfills it's duty. ;)

Okay, it's odd that it shows different in windows image viewer (or indeed, whatever the english name is) though I'm glad you found another program to fulfill your needs. Great piece of art by the way :)

Sorry for my delay. :oops

So the prize-winning picture is colored at last! Great! :smile Seems fitting that you colored it with the tablet PC that (I’m guessing) you bought with the reward money. :p

The picture looks terrific in color! :D I love the light effects at the surface (and also the jellyfish for some reason :p). While I usually see Mo’s eyes as being a lighter shade of turquoise, you’ve done a great job matching his overall color pallete. :yes Shouldn’t that red dot in front of his eye be his nostril, though?

Can’t wait to see more art from you! :)

Hmm.. you're probably right. I'll fix it as soon as possible. :)

A new picture for Caustizer's story Far Away Home:

A family pic with Sky and Star's son Cloud. Uncle Glide is there too!

Hmm... about the picture itself, well, I really like the theme but I just can't seem to like the outcome. :/
I dunno... it's probably the background, the coloring, or maybe they don't look just right... *looks at Sky's hand* >__> XP

I hope you still like it. I would understand if not though... it's not my best work.

I do like the picture.  It also looks like you can get some bit of a feel of hte personality of the characters from their poses.

As I said on Deviantart I really love this picture.  It is refreshing to see the entire family together as it gives well to the sense of the story, opening a bit of a window as to how they interact with one another.

The only thing I don't like about it is how Cloud and Sky are the exact same colour. I was hoping Cloud would be a slightly darker blue because (A) His mom is a bit of a darker colour compared to his dad and (B) it makes Sky and Cloud look too similar, to the point where he could be confused for a younger Sky in some contexts.

Keep up the good work!

Caustizer

Here is an edited version. I gave Glide and Cloud a darker tone:

Caustizer:
I have failed you... D:
Well, as I mentioned on deviantart, I don't like the outcome of this picture that much so I'm giving it a second try. Hopefully, it will be a much better one. :)

I don't think you failed, but if you insist on redoing the picture I can give a few suggestions as to changes if you want.  In my experience these pictures turn out a lot better when you know the character you are trying to draw, and since ultimately everything we know about Cloud comes from one blurb at the beginning of the act there was a lot of extrapolating involved.

I had always imagined that Cloud got his personality from his father, but got most of his colour from his mom.  The dark blue shade is good, but the yellow still make him look just like a smaller Sky.  Maybe you should play around with the colours a bit?

I'm interested to hear why you don't like it, since your artisits intuition is pretty high.

Caustizer.

EDIT: Also, maybe you should try drawing Glide in a less familiar pose to evolve his character a bit.

Hello:
I think Cloud looks fine in both colors schemes, I would agree that the darker one gives some more variety to the pic as it looks like it is not just a "copy" of his father's colors. But at the end, the decision is yours Sky :DD .
Glide's personality has not changed over time I think, that is nice.... I guess :smile .

I thought giving Cloud a lightblue color for the front. Guess I have to experiment a little. :)
Well, Glide looks still okay here (I agree that I use that pose very often for him :p).
Sky on the other hand, he looks kinda 'broad' to me. His arm behind Star looks too short and his hand that is holding Star's shoulder looks just wrong.  :confused And I think his eye is a little too large for an adult.
Star looks fine, but her face looks a bit odd. Must be her wrinkles and is probably something to getting used to. :)

The shading is also hard to recognize... like only half of it is present. :slap But the most part that doesn't fit at all is the background. o_O I mean... does it look prehistoric to you? It's a background I sadly ALWAYS use in my pictures...  :neutral

Nice artwork.  One thing to consider as for the kid, think he's Cloud but I'm not sure, is that as he gets older his coloring may change a bit.  He may get darker or some other change.

My initial reaction to the original colored picture was that Cloud’s coloration was too close to Sky’s (though the slightly lighter hues did make me think a little of clouds). I think the darker colors are a step in the right direction, though. And even before I saw your last post, Sky, I was going to suggest that light blue might be a good color for Cloud’s underside. Or you could try the belly color Glide has (though I’m guessing it might not look as good). Giving him entirely bluish/grayish hues seems suitable, as it would give him a more “clouded” appearance.

By the way, Caustizer, did you envision Cloud’s eyes as being blue like his father’s, or more grayish like Star’s and Glide’s? On one hand, his current eye color seems to suggest that his personality is similar to Sky’s, but on the other hand, giving him cloud-colored eyes would further differentiate his appearance from Sky’s, in addition to being appropriate for his name.

I also thought that Glide’s pose looked very familiar, but I really like his expression. :lol Good to see what his tail looks like, too (I can’t remember if I’e ever seen it before ).

Personally I thought that Sky, Star, and Cloud’s poses all looked very good, especially for a family portrait. The fact that they are in physical contact with one another makes this an even more affectionate picture (in my opinion) than “One Longneck Family”. And I like how Glide’s sort of standing off to the side; it implies that he still doesn’t completely approve of his sister’s choice of mate. :lol

The wrinkles at the front of the adult characters’ eyes look fine to me, but I agree that the ones underneath do look a little odd. And Sky’s left hand does seem kind of boneless; maybe you could change the fingers so that the black lines between them divide them completely, and they all point in the same direction, and from one all point in the same direction. It might also help if less of Sky’s hand (the main part, not the fingers) is visible behind Star’s shoulder. Do you think any of that might help?

In my opinion, the background looks fine; the bush in the lower right-hand corner is a little simplistic, but still, I wish I was that good at drawing backgrounds. :rolleyes If you want to draw landscapes that look more like the Mesozoic, I’d suggest focusing on plant life. While the climate and geography of the Earth during the time of the dinosaurs was vastly different from today, the land on its own probably wasn’t much different. Many of the mountain ranges that exist today had not formed yet, but on the other hand, there were probably mountain ranges back then that have since eroded away. And while certain areas of the Earth were more geologically active than they are today, on average, there were no more volcanoes or earthquakes than there are now.

My knowledge of Mesozoic plant life is limited, but I know that any grass that existed back then was probably bamboo-like (there were probably other plants that were short and thickly covered the ground, but none of the true grasses would have made good lawn material :p); ferns, tree ferns, cycads, and horsetails were more common and diverse; up until nearly the end of the Mesozoic, conifers would have outnumbered the broad-leaved trees that we are familiar with today; and flowering plants did not become common until the early-to-mid-Cretaceous period (~130–100 million years ago). For the record, LBT doesn’t seem to invest much effort in making its landscapes look “prehistoric”, as most of the plants that appear are similar to those that are around today.

I hope some of what I have said is helpful; ask or contact me if you want more help with prehistoric backgrounds. ;)
