The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

"That's one small fish caught," Ariol answered Dr Branston's message.  "What's the good word on everything else inside?"

----------

Vic and Dr Joe compared notes on Neku's matching blood types, and a list of donors came up on Dr Joe's pad.  "We have Snow on our list."

"Good," Vic replied as he dug back into his equipment.  "But we still need a few more donors.  Neku lost a lot of blood"

As Snow moved closer to get ready to donate some of her blood, Dr Joe fished through the list and a picture of the bat experiment came up.  "X-194?  Sorry, this list doesn't show another name if you have one."

"I believe the control room has been breached but it is irrelevant. The area we are in is a totally separate entity from the main base. In fact, we can use that to our advantage, let our enemies get overconfident and they'll pay dearly for it." Dr. Branston replied.

---------------------

Zachary, Alfred and Dr. Zanasiu reloaded all their weapons.

"Aisha, Dr. Landon, we are going to inspect lab 428. We'll need to take oxygen tanks as the lab is very smoky." Dr. Zanasiu said.

As he spoke, Zachary and Alfred grabbed some oxygen tanks from a nearby cabinet and slung them over their backs.

The bat smiled.
"You can call me Shade."
He said, smiling a little.
"And yeah, I'll be more than willing to give some blood to keep Neku alive."
He added...

Alfred handed two oxygen tanks with masks to Aisha and Dr. Landon. "We're heading out now." His mask was dangling from his neck.

Dr. Zanasiu adjusted his mask then took it off. "That helicopter may have been carrying Dr. Shelton and he may have been captured or injured."

-------------------

Delta leader marched Shelton to an empty but clean electronics lab where she handcuffed him to a heavy chair.

"Okay, first things first, what is your name?" Delta leader asked, a frown spreading across her canine features.

"Can I plead the fifth?" Shelton asked nervously, examining the handcuff.

(OOC: Feel free to torture Shelton, just don't do any permanent damage or bone breaking.)

"This is not a civilian court. You can't plead anything. What is your name?" Delta leader repeated. She pulled out her Taser and removed the cartridge and sent a electric arc crackling between the two electrodes and shoved it under Shelton's nose.

"Auuggh! Shelton! Rudyard Shelton!" he cried, jerking back, yet finding the chair fixed to the floor.

Delta leader grinned. "Very good. Mr. Shelton. Okay, what is your purpose in being here? I'm sure that you weren't some lost tourist as there's nothing to see here." She pulled the Taser back.

"I don't know, I got a call from somebody telling me that some friends of mine were in trouble at Pelvanida, and wouldn't I want to help my friends out?" Shelton babbled incoherently, staring at the taser, "I wanted safe passage back to America so I agreed, and the pilot crashed us into the base!" He stopped suddenly. "I really shouldn't be telling you any of this, should I?"

"Hmm. I'd assume your friends were the same ones who killed several guards, shot up the front of the base and broke into the complex? Sorry, I can't let you help some terrorists." Delta leader replied in an almost bored tone. She then suddenly grinned. "But your information is appreciated."

"Shade it is, then,"  Dr Joe replied.

Vic had hooked Snow up and slowly drew some blood to Neku, both were anxiously watching him for a response.

Feral keeps a sharp eye down the hall as he waits, while Aiko is busy breaking back into the computer.

----------

X-278 listened intently to the goings on outside the cell.  The war has died, but now filling the air with talking...

----------

"Don't get too cocky, Doc," Ariol replied.  "You mentioned all that before they made it this far into the base.  I wouldn't be calling in favors if I had more confidence in what you say.  At this point, Dragonstorm will have to be moved while we still have control of the base.  Try to get in contact with the other scientists to prepare to move their projects.  I had the honor of talking with our good employer, and he has some new bases in the ready."

(OOC:  Good idea to have a deadline for the heroes?  If there's a desire for another sequel, we could have some of the Dragonstorm projects slip away, and the team will have to seek out these new bases.)

Neku stirred, his eyes fluttering open weakly.
"Heh...Sorry to be such a pain, guys.  Guess I should have been more careful, huh?"
He asked, trying to joke despite his present situation.

(OOC:  Another sequel sounds good!)

"Understood." Dr. Branston replied. "however, I do have a last ditch plan if things get ugly. I'll show it to you."

He then got up and lead Ariol to a large room where an enormous gray cylinder, which was roughly the same size as 2 semi-trucks lay in the middle of the room. Multiple wires protruded from the cylinder and led to an armored box the size of an ATV.

"This is my last ditch plan; a 50 kiloton pure fusion bomb triggered by an explosively pumped flux compression generator. This bomb can obliterate all of Pelvanida and a good portion surrounding it if detonated. It takes two people to trigger this bomb and it detonates 30 minutes after both detonators are pressed. I have one of them; Dr. Johnson Zenarchis has the other."  Dr. Branston explained.  "So Ariol, what do you think?"

---------------------------

"Well, I'm done with you." Delta leader said to Shelton. "See you."

She then lead her squad out of the room and then she quickly jammed the door by locking it and destroying the electronic lock with a short burst of SMG fire.

Shelton whacked the wall with his fist. "Dammit!" he swore. "Here I come to help my friends out, and all I do is spill the beans to the first dog with a taser!"

Sliding the handcuff as far down the chair as he could, he felt the chair legs where they touched the ground. Tight screws kept the chair screwed firmly to the floor.

"All right, think..." he muttered. "I need someway to get these screws out..."

Ariol scratched his chin as he looked, then nodded.  "Until now, I thought you were just another lab suit without true ingenuity.  I like it.  Just keep it as the last resort.  The boys upstairs paid too much for all of this to go kablooey."  His cell phone went off and he answered...

----------

Snow's eyes welled up with tears as Neku woke up, and reached across to hold his remaining claw in hers.

"Welcome back," Vic said, watching the blood transfer.  "And yes, a little more caution goes a long way.  We're almost ready to change donors.  Ready, Shade?"

Shelton fished a quarter out of his pocket, and used it to unscrew the legs of the chair. Bunny-hopping over to the lab table, he reviewed the items laying on the table. "Now, how to get out of a pair of handcuffs..." he thought to himself.

"Ariol, have you disposed of the interlopers yet?" the voice on the phone replied. "We cannot afford further delays in movement or we risk public exposure."

Dr. Branston looked lovingly at the fusion bomb. "Don't worry, I promised Dr. Zenarchis only to use it only as a last resort."

As he spoke, two scientists in a powered robotic exoskeleton passed by; between them, they were carrying a large silver cylinder with wires and pipes protruding from it.

"As soon as my 'special' crew arrive, boss," Ariol replied calmly.  "Then these gnats are as good as dead."  He hung up immediately and started walking back the way he came, looking back once at Dr Branston before moving on.  "And they said I was disturbed..." he muttered to himself...

First, he needed his handcuffs in front of him, not behind him.

This is gonna hurt, he thought wistfully to himself, tipping his chair backwards. He winced as his back crashed into the ground. Curse my relative tallness!

But from here, he could shimmy his legs and torso between his arms and end up with the chair (and handcuffs) in front of him. Coming to a standing-crouch, Shelton dragged the chair up and over to the table.

Some sort of experiment sat on the table. He didn't care what it was. Delivering it an awkward kick, he sent the materials scattering over the floor. Picking up a snapped wire, he released the latch on his handcuffs.

"Damn, I feel like MacGyver," Shelton muttered to himself, in awe at how far he'd gotten.

Other than the thin wire, the only surviving useful piece of the device was a small propane tank. Shelton pocketed it and turned to the door.

The guard had destroyed the lock, but the door could still be opened if he could stimulate the wires in the wall that led to the door lock. Shelton remembered where the lock was on the other side. He needed to burn through the wall, and it would be thinnest and weakest where the lock used to be.

Using the thin wires to pick the keyholes, he raided the cupboards, and used a battery and steel wool to light a fire, which he used with the propane burner to heat up the thin section of wall. When it was hot enough, he punched through with an aspirator.

Reaching through with his hand, he found the damaged ends of burnt wires. Using a rubber glove, he felt which wire seemed to come from where. He needed to stimulate the right one. Once he was sure he had it, he built up static electricity and  touched the wire with the end of a sliver of metal. The spark shot though the metal and stimulated the door lock. The door slid open.

The hallway was deserted. Shelton waited for the security camera to look the other way, then darted into the next lab.

(OOC - The guard destroyed the lock before she left.)
(OOC - Nick, my characters are sort of stuck.)

Dr. Branston left the so called "bomb bunker" and headed back up to the surface via a secret passage in the male's bathroom closet, which closed behind him. He emerged from the closet, went into the stall and flushed the toilet and immediately walked out and washed his hands. A janitor mopping the floor glanced at him but otherwise ignored him.
