"Enemy targets detected, beam lock initiating," called out the Piscies amidst the gunfire. Clyco had his sidearm out, and was taking potshots at the traitor guards. It surprised him that the gun was talking about "seeking" targets when it was on the ground next to him, behind a control panel acting as cover.
"Well, looks like it's just me left. Better give this thing a shot or I'm done for," Clyco thought. As his pistol ran out of suppression ammo, he reached for the Spectrum Rifle and cocked the loader.
"Friendly armant detected, beam lock complete, fire when ready."
Not taking a chance, Clyco slipped the rifle overtop of the panel and blindfired into the hostiles. Two things happened at once. First was an aweful screech and thunderous crack, and the second were screams of terror as three of the five assialants were eliminated in the blink of an eye.
The Experimental Spectrum Rifle worked by locking on several targets and calibrating a beam of prismatic light (also called "heavy light") to bounce between targets striking all locked on assialants at once. The beam that Clyco fired passed through the first guard, reflecting off his internal organs (giving severe internal burns) onto the second and subsequentially the third.
The biggest drawback of the weapon revealed itself however.
"Power core depleted, recharging"
Clyco looked at the timer, and it was well over 10 minutes. No wonder this thing was not standard issue - 1 shot was useless in a battle situation. As it turned out he didn't need to fire again.
"Holy @#&@^$," one of the traitor guards hollered, "were dead, let's get outta here!"
The two guards fled, covering their escape with a hail of pointless rapid fire.
Clyco breathed a sigh of relief... the gunfight was over for the time being.
