The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Eternion smiled wryly. 'Of course it's getting to me. A mortal being shouldn't be exposed to this sort of stuff, and certainly not a fragile old coot like myself.'

He turned his back to her, the hallway seemed so inviting with its color. 'I've been exposed to negative energies before. I know what they can do to the body, and how they can effect the mind. I could easily give into it if I so desired, but that would just be silly, now would it?'

'Of course, there's always the other problem.' He faced Violet, his eye gazing into hers coldly. 'The problem with the shadows is that the light will always chase it away, until it huddles in the tiniest corners, forgotten. I warn you now, Violet... that will be you. You'll soon be gone, and with it... everything you could ever love.'

'Do you even feel love anymore? Is it all gone? Every emotion stained by the blackness within?'

"Feeling emotion?" Violet asked Eternion with a little evil sounding giggle again as she lay down onto her stomach, her clothes also vanishing off her back as well.

She gave him a grin as well, her legs waving back and fourth before she rolled over onto her back, still keeping her gaze on him "The whole emotion ordeal....it's, how you could say, overrated"

(3 days before wedding)Once Jake had arrived in the princes view he was told to kneel. "stand and speak" said the prince

Jake lifted his head and he got up from his kneeling position "i have an idea on how i can kill off the targets."

The prince leaned forward "do tell"

"what if i went back to Minthebec and pretended that my curse has now faded away and i'm normal again so that i can kill each target one by one? only problem is that i would need a spell strong enough to cover up the curse that i have at the moment..."
The prince thought about it for a moment "sounds good to me" he said "but once you go there they will be extremely suspicious about you returning..."

"i know that, that's why i need a spell to cover up my other one so that they believe my story" said jake

"very well, you may go to minthebec with the strongest cover-up spell, but be warned it lasts at least 1 week maximum" said the prince

Jake nodded, then the prince made a hand gesture to Jake that meant jake could leave when ever he was ready. Jake turned and he proceeded towards the magical part of the castle (couldn't think of any other way to describe...). Once Jake had arrived he went inside a large room and was met by a green coloured male dracon, the dracon was around the age of 40 and was wearing dark green robes that matched his skin coulour, his name was Ethilion. "hello human, i've recieved word that you are allowed to take one of my best cover-up spells"

"yep, i need it so i can infiltrate minthebec and kill my targets" replied Jake

Ethilion turned and he went over to some shelves and he searched through all the potions until he came across one that was a glowing blueish green color. He grabbed it and handed it to Jake.

"thanks for the potion" said Jake "i'll drink the potion when i'm at minthebec"

"good idea" replied Ethilion

Jake nodded and he walked all the way to the front gate and he was given a horse to ride that had been enhanced to run at nearly twice the speed of a normal horse. If Jake left now he should be at Minthenbac in 4 days
(present time after wedding)

Minthenbac was in view and was growing larger every second. Jake decided that once he had actually reached minthenbac he would drink the potion and return to his old house and see what he had missed out on lately.

(that okay?)

(OOC: Assume that that happened before the wedding. Just type in something like "three days before the wedding..." and the next post with Jake "at present time" or "in the present." Also, it would probably be best to get something faster than a cart; these cities are separated by over a thousand mile! Try a flying carpet or something. XD)

Marcus heard a knock on his door. Moving to open it, he was happy to find his parents! Now, they were about to have a grandchild in the form for the new life in the egg Rhiga had laid.

Jake had arrived at the city, Jake had pulled the small potion from his pocket, he removed the cork and he drank the contents. Jake threw the bottle onto the ground and he dismounted from the horse and he sent it back to the princes castle (the horse was trained). Once the horse was out of sight he began making his way back to the house he used to live in.

The human arrived in the city not more than an hour before the gates were closed and locked. Each of the four gates of the city had two sets of gigantic doors separated by two gigantic portcullises. All of the doors and portcullises were made of black adamantine, a metal stronger than mithril and harder than diamond. To top it off, the metal in the defenses was enchanted to resist attempts by enemy magic to destroy them. Adykon thanked the gods that the walls of Minbenthac, though damaged on rare occasion, have never fallen since they were built.

'I would expect you to say that,' Eternion replied to Violet. 'Considering you have been completely drained of such, I would expect you to be a little biased. Unfortunately for you, the only thing that makes us who we are... are those very emotions.'

He gave a sigh, and turned for a door. 'I don't know why I even bother. You may as well be who you wish to be, since you seem so intent on ignoring the feelings inside that plea for you to stop embracing your darker self.'

He placed a hand on the side of the door, and faced Violet one last time. 'I only followed you because I was actually worried for you. You're not the first of your kind I have met. Your kind are rare, and each life lost is a heavy price.'

'But I digress, I am too old to care about this anymore. It is your life, not mine... though I tire of watching those I care about slowly die in front of my eyes, so to speak.'

He gave a small grunt as he stepped back outside into the "real world", 'it was nice knowing you, Violet,' he said.

Violet only seemed to snicker back at what Eternion told her "Then, it looks like following me in here was just a waste of time then, so ta ta, be gone" she told him, waving him off as she lay on her back with a bit of a laugh as well.

Ku'ux on the other hand, was seen walking down the hallways as he passed Eternion, stopping in his tracks "I take it you've given up on Violet?" he asked him with a slight snort as well.

Violet still lived. Her real persona was submerged, but she was still there. Still there. Not beyond saving. Adykon knew this, as did Vespion. It was hard to see another one of their party affected by a curse, and so soon... but now was not the time to worry about such things. None of them might be alive soon. The wedding was over by now. It was done. Life would go on... and get worse.

Far away, 20,000 dracons, three dragons, and inside Minbenthac, a traitor all prepared to strike at dawn.

'I gave up decades ago,' Eternion replied to Ku'ux. 'Seems I was right to do so. Oh well, nevermind it... there are other matters at hand.'

He had no intent on sleeping through this night. Instead, he would watch the world change as the sun rose to a new, different, darker day. There was to be no rest for the weary, for the nightmares would haunt him so, and everything would seem like it was in the final days of his adventuring career, when death itself would to sneer at him, wanting to embrace him... and to drag Eternion to the bottom of the burning hells, where he belonged.

'I wouldn't worry about her. I've seen this kind of thing before... it can be cured.'

His hands shivered slightly as he patted the minotaur on the shoulder. 'She still lives, and life is all that matters these days.'

He neglected to mention that the last cursed creature he had encountered he had "cured", by killing her.

And her eyes, as they returned to normal, and gazed up into his... so frightened... they still burned in the back of his mind, just like all the other souls.

Ku'ux gave a nod back to him "Indeed, I'm afraid that she will have to wait for the time being, I just have a feeling that something's going to happen, something big, but what that is....it's hard to say"

He glanced towards Violet's room "She's done something to the room, I can feel the darkness.....it's not natural...."

Finally... the dawn came. Marcus's parents had spent the night over with their son and new daughter-in-law, as did Minna and Ilsa with their new husbands. Adykon and the rest slept in their own rooms.

At first, all was silent. Minbenthac could feel that something was coming, although none but the most skilled mages and clerics could understand it. It was hard to fathom. The whole city felt that it was experiencing a hinge upon which history would turn, a very special moment which was never guaranteed to come in any lifetime, and yet, here it was. A collective sense of unease permeated the great city. In the distance, four portals opened up, miles from the city walls. To the north, south, east, and west, four armies emerged. A dragon emerged out of the northern, eastern, and western tunnels.

As of that moment, no one in Minbenthac saw the armies. Each direction had 5,000 soldiers from Dememoras's army for a total of 20,000 plus three dragons.

At that time, one would be hard pressed to find Eternion. He was once again atop a building, overlooking the city. He sat there with his legs crossed and his axe by his side as he watch the sun begin to rise.

'Savor this, old friend, for it shall be my last,' he muttered to himself. He then proceeded to lay the four aging potions before him, lining them up with no real reasoning or order.

'Behold the coming of a new age, in this season of chaos... and in this season, we were chosen. In the time when the shadows would fight back, we would promise ourselves to fight to the end, until all order was restored.'

He thought about Almia and himself, together. They had said many things in their time as adventurers... and in that time, they had made many promises.

'We promised ourselves we would not falter, or run in fear... we are beyond our fears. What reasoning is there to fear death itself? We were born to die, and now in this time between the spark of light and the last breath, we stand as one, ready to protect what we love dearest.'

He picked up the green vial, and opened it. 'Such an odd feeling it is, this blackness I can feel. It goes beyond nerves, for I no longer fear death. I would stare at the reaper and shout that I am not afraid to die. And yet, the cold hand of evil reaches out and tries to sow fear and discord, but I no longer fear evil.'

Eternion drank the first potion, and threw it aside. Next, he picked up the blue vial. 'I have seen too much in my lifetime to let the hands of evil seduce me, or bring me doubt. I have been of the verge of the shadow of death so many times that I no longer care to fear. Dememoras can try, but I am his enemy... and shall always be, and I will not fear him, because even death itself can not frighten me.'

He drank the second vial, and tossed it aside. The taste was unpleasant, but it bothered him little. Next was the golden vial. 'No turning back now, what more is there to say? I shall fight as another soldier in this battle against the forces of evil.'

Eternion drank down the golden vial. Finally, he came to the red one. 'Heck, what am I saying? When I see that bastards face, whether it be in my final death throes or as I watch him fall... I shall scream my name... and I will savor every single second.'

He swallowed every last drop, and then stood up. 'Eternion of Graylane.' He picked up his axe by his side. 'Just like old times, except with more killing, just how I like it. When death finally comes, I'll be ready for him. He'll have to drag me kicking and screaming to the depths of hell.'

And then Eternion felt a strange sensation inside him. He clutched at his chest as the feeling swelled into something else entirely. It was painful, as if his body was try to tear itself apart. He let out a roar, and fell back to the floor. The pain grew until it was at a point where he truly felt he was going to die. His old body couldn't handle it, and he passed out... the blackness embracing him.

The four armies lined up in order. They did not attack yet. The portals which each army passed through stayed open. The reason was soon evident; siege equipment. Each of the four armies received 10 catapults, 5 of which were standard onagers, 5 of which were more advanced trebuchets. Additionally, each army had three siege towers, over two dozen mobile wooden shields, and half a dozen wooden battering rams with a metal point at the end.

The runemarked army was in the east, spellforged was in the south, dragonblooded was in the north, and demonbred was positioned in the north.

Kluthu, the color-changing court archmage in the court of the king, felt very odd, as if he had drank spoiled milk. The feeling passed quickly. Of all the mages to detect the immediate presence of the enemy army, he had been the first. Rushing over to the king, who was already wearing his armor, the mage spoken frantically.

"Sire! They're here!"

"What? At our gates? Dememoras's army is upon us?!"

"They've teleported in a few miles away. No... it was by means of a portal opened up, like walking through a tunnel. We are surrounded on all four sides, and I have detected dragons with them!"

None of the scouts had reported this. For some reason Kluthu could feel and see what they could not. Other mages of sufficient power had felt the armies arrive as well, but only Kluthu knew that they were surrounded.

"How do you know this?"

"I sensed the presence of magic, sire. I suppose it is my accident that makes me more sensitive to these sort of things." Kluthu's skin color was the result of an accident when he was younger. As he spoke, it changed from green to red and back again, only to change to brown.

Truth was, something was keeping the armies from being seen. Something else had gone through each of the portals with them; a sheet of paper-thin material known as a "mitne pok", which was Draconic for "lightstopper." Each sheet was able to float on the air, and be guided by one of the many mages each army brought along with it.  Each lightstopper prevented the army from being seen from a distance. This would give each of the four armies the ability to get close to the walls without being seen, unless their cover was blow. The lightstopper sheets were also invisible, and anything marching behind them, be it as small as an ant or as large as a colossus, would be unseen.

By the time the armies could be heard, they would be all over Minbenthac unless someone did something soon.

Violet had been awake the whole night and as morning was upon them, she was on top of the Palace roofs giving off a chuckle to herself, as she was just watching the event unfold in front of her "Perhaps, if they need some sort of help in stop their enemies, then perhaps I might help them out.....it might prove to be rather entertaining at the very least"

Ku'ux had awoken that day as well, he had again, slept in the local inn instead of staying at the palace.  To him, it made no difference where he was to sleep, he just needed to get some sleep to be prepared for each day, in case his fighting was needed.

Eriol awoke after sleeping the whole night - "This is funny, I sleep all night so seldom!" - He thought as he woke up and prepared himself. After taking a shower, he saw that Arianne was awoke too, but she was sitting in the bed. - "Is everything ok Arianne?"

She looked at him - "I have such a strange feeling, presences...I am not sure." - Since she is a sorceress she could feel the evil presences that were coming near, or at least, that is what she thinks could be.

Eriol looked at her and said. - "Then we need to prepare, just in case." - he said as he prepared the equipment they have bought, the armor, the weapons, everything. - "If Dememoras is making his move now, I want to be ready." - He said, and Arianne nodded, she then got up the bed and washed herself, then both Gaeans prepared themselves.

Margas  arose from his slumber, his new wife Ilsa by his side. They had to aware of the coming events to be intimate with each other last night, that moment would come later..  Margas' strong powers detected the coming armies, and he quickly awoke, and  threw on his armor. " ilsa! they have come to lay siege to Minbenthac!:
_ the Dark Master?' Ilsa shot up from the bed and hurriedly began putting on h a suit of armor,. this set was made for a female mage, it had belonged to her grandmother and it had been among the many wedding presents she had received.  It took the couple about twenty minutes or so to be ready then they headed out together towards the center of the city towards Minna's palace..

All over the city, soldiers and warriors, mercenaries and militia, and any male fit to fight was scrambling in one direction or another. The enemy was as of yet unseen, but by now, mages and clerics had sounded the alarms, being able to detect the presence of... something that was out there. The defense thus far was uncoordinated, unfocused. No one really knew what was happening out there.

Ku'ux approached Adykon, his axe at his side "I take it something is about to happen? Do you have any idea on who the enemy is at the moment?" he asked him as he glanced around "And one other thing, has Violet been seen today by any chance?"
